Amazing and the Cheapest Veg Food in Tokyo!

I had this on my list of places to visit on my last stay in Japan (March 2013), but happened to be passing it when on my way to the Keiyo line to go to Maihama and Disney Sea, so popped in for lunch. It was really busy, full of Japanese businessmen and young people on their lunch break whilst in the JR station. It is unusual to see a veg* restaurant abroad be so packed with local people, who probably aren't veg* themselves.

Service was lightening quick - I was shown to a large table and given the menu. I ordered the original ramen, which looked like the least spicy option! It was bought out in minutes and was delicious! The broth was very flavourful, and with a kick but not too much. It was topped with what looked like a mix of peanut butter and soy - tasted much yummier than it sounds! It was really hot temperature wise and slurping was necessary to cool it down. It was only Y750 and completely filling, healthy and fast.

The second time I went I also had the fried soy meat, which I didn't care for much, but the ramen is incredible.

The restaurant also sells a selection of packaged foods in the entrance, including dried soy mince.

The staff don't speak much English, but the menu is in English and there are only a few options to choose from, so you can't go wrong really. At the end, you take your order sheet to the counter to pay - simple!

If you aren't in the station to get a train, you can get a station only ticket on any of the JR ticket machines; I think it is only Y300 or so. I had a JR pass, so no problem going in to Keiyo Street.

Pros: So cheap!, Delicious ramen, Very fast service

Low price, very tasty

We went for the golden and black sesam tantan this time, and it was sooo good. Very filling, very tasty. The atmosphere in the cafe is a bit bland, but it is what you make of it.

The food is worth it and very cheap for what we got.

The best vegan Ramen on my trip in Japan

I've tried every Ramen dish on their menu. The Yuzu Ramen and especially the golden sesam Ramen were a 10 out of 10! After many vegan Ramen on my trip in Japan I'd say that T's Tantan offers one of the best (if not the the best) Ramen in Japan.

Delicious ramen!

I had a yuzu ramen, it was delicious! But it’s very light, if u like a heavier one, maybe tan tan men is better😄
Gyoza was really delicious!!
The place was hard to find, you have to go inside of the ticket gate😊

Overrated?

There are plenty of good vegan options in Tokyo, but I found this place to be overrated as I feel they could improve the food quality. However, Tokyo Station doesn't offer many vegan alternatives, so it's convenient nonetheless.

Tried before our train trip to Osaka

As the previous reviewer stated, this place is good, but not mind blowing. We found it a bit light on flavour. My partner had the Black Sesame ramen and I had the Ponzu ramen. Both were good. The dumplings were good, but we’ve had better of both in several places on this trip. The ponzu ramen was a bit like chicken noodle soup, whereas the sesame was a little more robust and slightly spicy. The Black sedan ramen had (I think) yam noodles. They didn’t absorb any of the broth.

But all the ordering was done on the iPad, so it was easy. You do get chargers some 100¥ fee on there. No idea what for specifically. Would def eat there again if I was waiting for a train, but would not go out of my way to eat there.

Pros: Fast service , Easy to order, Decent food

Cons: Lacks flavour, Not easy to find

Convenient but over-rated

In the weeks leading up to arriving in Tokyo, all I heard from other vegans was T’s Tan Tan for vegan ramen. I arrived in Tokyo Station and was excited to swing by for lunch before finding my lodging. The ramen was good but it honestly wasn’t great. I had better ramen at at least two different places in Kyoto.

I tried the black sesame ramen. It was pleasantly spicy but light on toppings (mostly broth and noodles). The noodles were okay but not mind-blowing. I added the soy meat char sui and I liked it a lot but it was kind of greasy; I felt similarly about the gyoza I tried.

My dining companion got the curry and enjoyed it but felt similarly. It was good but not amazing. He also ordered the vegan cheese and found it weird.

Service is very fast and done by iPad so there’s no language barrier. If you’re waiting for a train it’s not a bad choice at all, but I would definitely not pay for a platform ticket just to try this place, and I’m a little baffled by how many people said they ate here every day while in Tokyo. Even a vegan guidebook I bought stressed this place above all others, and I don’t really get it.

Maybe I would have liked it more if I hadn’t heard so much hype?

Fantastic Vegan Ramen

Look no further for vegan ramen than here at T's Tan Tan, one of the coveted spots for plant-based folks and those exploring.

HUGE Note: just like it's sister location in Ueno, you must pass through the ticket gates in order to access T's Tan Tan.

Since this is located inside Tokyo Eki, you might experience a bit of a wait. I waited about 10 minutes in line as a solo diner before being seated. There are a lot of Japanese and international folks dining here, so you're going to listen in on a lot of different languages.

I ordered their current special set which was their take on Thai Khao Soi and included a little cheesy rice bowl you can create using the broth after the noodles were done. I also got a side of their gyoza because they were great at the Ueno location.

As expected, the food here is great. Ramen quality if top notch and their rotating specials lived up to expectations. For less than ¥2000, you're going to have a great meal and know it's fully vegan.

Despite the annoyance of needing to enter through the JR gates, it's worth it on a stopover to your next destination. I'd plan to drop by for a meal if you're transiting between two different points on the JR line so it doesn't feel like you're wasting money just to gain access.

Pros: Great and plentiful options

Cons: Inside Tokyo Station - need ticket to enter

Quick Meal Inside Tokyo Station!

We came across T’s TanTan based inside Tokyo Station. It’s a great place to eat when stopping by at Tokyo Station or transferring there (please note, it’s inside the station past the gate.) We tried the classic Tan Tan Ramen and a Soy Meat Bowl with Gyoza. No reservations are available so there was a queue to get in.

Pros: Good Food , Good Location

Cons: Bit Loud

Good but not the best

The ramen are very good but unfortunately they are not the best ;)
There was quite a long waiting time (even though this is normal in Tokyo).
The food was nevertheless tasty.

All-vegan with seasonal ramen. I also tried the gyoza, which is lightly fried.

Cons: Had to wait for 35min at 7:30pm on Saturday.

Classic one, don’t miss it

Had the golden sesame ramen and my boyfriend the curry. Also some gyzo. Can recommend everything. I came here 4 times :)
A little annoying is that it’s hard to find and INSIDE the station. You have to use you suica card and pay in and out. But definitely worth it

Good Ramen 🍜

Pretty good ramen, but honestly had better in the past; same goes for the gyoza. Also forgot to take our order, instead they took the order of about 5 groups that came after us, but that can happen. All in all still a great experience and worth a visit if you're in the area.

Noodle Oasis

I thought I was going to have to eat another rice ball for lunch when I stumbled upon this place in the station. We waited about five minutes and it was well worth it. Their black sesame spicy noodles are all I have thought about since. Tasty dumplings too 🥹

Pros: Black sesame miso, Dumplings, Handy location

Lovely little vegan spot

We loved this place! The golden sesame ramen was amazing and they even had vegan gyoza. 🥟 It actually wasn’t too busy when we went so I guess we lucked out! It was quite difficult to find but I just followed the instructions from another reviewer on here and I’m so happy we found it! Definitely gonna be a go-to for vegan ramen whenever I’m in Tokyo💗

Yummy and cheap!

Delicious ramen in a convenient location. I’ve visited twice now and both times was impressed by the cheap price and great meal.

It’s insanely busy there all the time, so expect a wait.
