UPDATE 11/29/24: Munster TRUE Bar side has Vegan Menu with most of the same great choices as before. Still tasty. Italian side also has a Vegan menu, but we haven't tried them yet.

UPDATE as of 11/6/23: Closed in Munster. PR is so confusing, but appears...
GRIFFITH: Still open. 108 N Broad St, Griffith, IN. (Have yet to try this location)
MUNSTER: CLOSED during remodel. They are opening a non-BBQ TRUE eatery. 🤞 hoping for vegan care
CROWN POINT: CLOSED
ORIGINAL POST (will confirm if same applies for Griffith loc):
Our goto for BBQ. This last visit the Vegan Reuben was even better. The seitan corned beef was really tender. It could have used more sauerkraut, but otherwise the 🥪 was really good with the vegan thousand island dressing on marbled rye. Note that the bright red color is beet & not artificial!
Also had the shaved BBQ seitan sandwich for the 1st time. It was very good and hearty!
Often have the BBQ pulled jackfruit and it's always great.
If you haven't tried them yet, put it on your list!

Pros: Several yummy original vegan BBQ options, Fries & vegan slaw comes with all sandwiches, Always good service
Cons: Vegan slaw is a smidgen. Regular is a cup. 🤔, ..and its dry cabbage w/a lil sauce. Drench & mix!

Hadn't been here in years and was very impressed with how it's come along with vegan items. The food we had was delicious and we're looking forward to coming back. We left very full with much leftovers.

they have a full vegan menu - Edit
I had the vegan reuben and fries, it was decent but any fault I could find with it would be based on my palate/preference. I would go here again if in the area and try something else.

This is my go-to in this area. - Edit
I go to True BBQ often. They have vegan options clearly labeled on the menu and they usually have a vegan cheesecake for dessert. I always get the sliced bbq seitan sandwich. My wife loves the Rueben.

Solid vegan-friendly menu - Edit
This was the last place I thought I'd find vegan options...a bbq spot in Indiana??? Kudos to yall for being trailblazers in bbq and offering good, substantial amount of vegan options. I enjoyed the jackfruit "pulled pork" sandwich and fries. It was pretty good! Good drinks and service.

Several options - Edit
My partner was in the mood for bbq and I was surprised to find out they had several marked vegan options. I had the vegan pulled pork and the cole slaw. Honestly I didn’t care for either. The French fries were good and if I go next time I’d try the seitan instead.

Loved the BBQ jackfruit sandwich. I was also able to get a gluten free bun. Perfect. Highly recommend...and my meat eating husband had tons of options. We will be back!

Surprisingly delicious vegan food but can be hit or miss. - Edit
Delicious vegan menu options are offered however they don't always taste the same. The vegan cheesecake can be awesome, when they do decide to make it...

Deserves 5 stars!!! - Edit
I have been going to True since it opened... The BBQ seitan sandwich is one of my fave meals of all time and they even make a vegan cole slaw as well. The chef's wife is vegan and has a whole vegan section on the menu with rotating vegan specials and desserts clearly marked. Great ambiance with outdoor seating available with fire pits, occasional live music, special events and a full bar. The perfect spot to enjoy time with vegans and meat eaters. (If you eat dairy try the mac n cheese, smoked beet salad and peanut butter pie omg)

amazing & unexpected! - Edit
What a great and unexpected find! Friendly and thoughtful service, fantastic housemade vegan entrees and the occasional vegan dessert. Good prices and hearty portion sizes. Seitan is really tasty, not chewy or mushy at all. Vegan coleslaw is delicious - a light vinegar dressing over crisp cabbage, corn & onions.

Dig a BBQ option! - Edit
Not often you think of BBQ places having vegan options! It has been solid the times I have tried it. Sandwiches are generous and come with fries and vegan slaw when you get the seitan or jackfruit ones.

BBQs and Vegans - Edit
I was driving through and looking for a place where vegans/vegetarians/omnivores would all be happy and this place worked out great. The food was delicious (raspberry BBQ sauce!!) and service was quick. The staff was friendly and helpful and the restaurant had a great look inside and out. As the vegan of the group I was thrilled that there were specific options for vegans and I was just left eating a side of steamed vegetables and fries. If you like BBQ definitely worth a try. To my knowledge the restaurant is run by a group that owns 10 restaurants in the Chicagoland area. Hooray for local business!

This is one of the places that solidified my reason for going vegan. It started out as a great place but quickly became mediocre. No stars would not recommend.

Vegan Cheesecake! - Edit
The vegan cheesecake is the best thing here! Other than that, I wanted to love this place. But it was mediocre. Nothing wrong with it but I wouldn't go out of my way. I had the vegan BBQ tacos and tried the vegan Reuben. Both not bad. If you're in the area, stop in.

suprised to find vegan options! - Edit
this amazingly delightful Bar/restaurant is located less than 1 minute from the Hampton Inn, Munster. I was informed that one of the sous chefs is vegan. There are several vegan options noted, and they are located on a vegan section of the menu. There is a vegan option with all the specials, and there were two vegan dessert options. The specials and desserts change every two weeks and they always include vegan choices. This is a must visit place if one is nearby.

upscale vegan BBQ - Edit
They actually have a small vegan section on the menu, with a separate fryer for vegans (just ask). Outdoor smoker and perfect seitan with an assortment of BBQ sauces (summer seasonal was blueberry balsamic), plus homemade picked and spicy coleslaw. Wish I'd had a chance to sample the cocktails. A bourbon/sweet tea/lemonade slushie looked particularly appealing. Only reason I wouldn't give it 5* is because I'm not fond of seeing huge hunks of meat brought to other patrons.
