Fun stop at the museum

The museum is a little out of the way but it’s a fun and interesting stop. I love that the buffet is vegetarian, and I got a wide range of vegan options. Definitely recommend!

Delicious buffet

Tasty and healthy veggy buffet. The staff was nice, told us which dishes included dairy and/or eggs. The cauliflower chickpea dish was my favourite.

A good and fast meal

The lunch buffet was fast very good and we were able to eat there for a quick stop. I especially liked the mushroom soup.

Cons: Some of the warm foods were a bit overcooked

Please Stop Here!

My partner and I have been lamenting our lack of access to veggie-rich meals—until now!!! This place rocks. Get the Wellness Lunch Buffet and leave with glowing skin. Highly recommend!

Decent dinner option in a smaller town

The restaurant is inside the Settlement Museum building. Very convenient to go to before or after the museum. Museum admission is not required to be able to enter the restaurant or the gift shop. Limited but clearly marked vegan options. We tried the chili sin carne and the vegan burger with potatoes. The chili was made from kidney beans and chickpeas, and was quite salty, but the small bowl of plain white rice helped cut the salt. Vegan chili mayo added good flavor. The burger is a homemade patty with lots of ingredients and the potatoes are large roasted wedges (finally not french fries!). Non-alcoholic Gull beer is tasty, with a lightly yeasty flavor. Nice decor in the restaurant including a giant rock wall and exposed beams, and soothing jazz piano music playing in the background.

Pros: Chickpeas in the chili were a nice addition, Roasted potato wedges instead of french fries , Beautiful soothing ambiance

Cons: Bowl of chili was fairly small and quite salty, Limited vegan options, Serves lamb and horse

Too salty

I got the chilli (which was more of a chickpea and bean stew as it had no spice in it at all) but was so salty I couldn't finish it.
Also even though the menu states that they can veganise it by giving you a vegan chilli mayo instead of sour cream the sauce that came with it tasted like sour cream.

Pros: Options, Burger is nice, Buffet looked good and varied

Cons: Chilli is too salty, Chilli had zero spice, May not have been vegan

Great lunch buffet

Belated review since I traveled there in July 2021 but since the lunch buffet still exists on their menu, I’m finally posting it because it was so worth it! There was a large variety of choices, you could feel everything was freshly prepared and it was super tasty and also not that pricey based on the Icelandic cost of living. The buffet is fully vegetarian and you have access to various vegan options. Just ask the staff if unsure 😊

Good food at a good restaurant

The restaurant is chic, the walls are partially old stones (from the mountain?) and next to it is a cute little shop with gifts from Iceland (some are handmade).

The food was good, they got two different vegetarian main courses, which can be made vegan. The vegetable soup seems vegan too, but varies. We got the Vegan Burger, it comes with fries and vegan chili-mayo. Good to find vegan food in this area(:

Pros: Nice ambience, Friendly staff, Good food

Très bien

Nous avons été très bien reçus.
Nous avons pris une soupe de carottes et un chili sin carne. Tout était vraiment délicieux, savoureux !
Le lieu était très chouette également, restaurant collé au musée, dans la roche.

Wow!

Amazing gem in Borganes! We really enjoyed the vegetarian wellness buffet - all you can eat for around $20 USD (including coffee and tea). Large selection of cold entrees, salad, warm chickpea chili and rice, potatoes, bread, and soup that all change daily (the cauliflower soup was amazing!) Items with milk and gluten clearly labeled. Definitely try if in the area.

Fabulous buffet, reasonable price, deserves 5 stars

We stopped here having read the reviews and were not disappointed. It was very busy but we just had to wait about 10 mins for a table. The building is built into the rockface and there's a bookshop and museum display downstairs that is well worth a visit. I won't repeat what others have said about the food, almost all vegan, fresh and tasty.

Pros: great choice of vegan food, fabulous building, fresh and tasty

Cons: none

Kind, knowledgeable about vegan food

Our waiter knew exactly which dishes on the buffet were vegan, they were extremely kind. They gave us a gluten-free bread which PS is the tip of the day, it is a nut bread that is amazing (my boyfriend is both vegan and gluten-free) Buffet was delicious as well as the vegan chili served with rice, very vegan friendly.

5 stars if I could

They have an entirely vegetarian buffet. I wasn’t sure because they don’t really advertise it nor is it marked, but oh my it was SO delicious. Everything was perfectly cooked and spiced. Hats off to the cooks in the back! At least 80% of the buffet was vegan too.

Super great vegan options, would give 5 stars

Was visiting the settlement museum and was super excited to stop at this place. They had an all vegetarian buffet (all vegan except for one dish) with tons of really good options. Super excited to find such a vegan friendly place in Iceland, and with a buffet nonetheless! It was also very well priced at around $20 usd a person, considering we’re in Iceland. The only thing is you should make sure the dishes you take from the buffet are vegan by asking if there’s egg or dairy. For example, the waitress told me the whole buffet was vegan even though there was a broccoli dish with dairy, so I’m glad I asked. Other reviews said dishes were clearly marked but there was no menu of the buffet or signs when I went. Make sure you check out the settlement museum by the way! It was a bit expensive but defiantly a cool experience.

Tasty veggie hamburger

Unfortunately I was too late for the vegetarian / vegan buffet lunch, but I had the vegetarian burger which was very good. Accompanied by slightly undercooked potatoes. Friendly and quick service. Reasonably priced, taking into account we're in Iceland.
