great place for a healthy, cruelty-free meal - Edit
This place has so many vegan options from smoothies, baked goods, and breakfast and lunch items. The food is great and they finally started accepting credit cards. It is conveniently located next to Brighter Day where you can stop in for some groceries and is a fun place to go for lunch after visiting the farmers market in Forsyth Park. There is a bit of a hipster-don't-take-a-shower vibe here though.

Cheese not vegetarian? - Edit
I take being vegetarian seriously, so when I go to a place that says they are vegetarian or vegan, I expect that they know what they are saying. I asked when I arrived if the cheese is vegetarian and the two people working had no idea what I was talking about. I explained and asked if the cheese used animal rennet and they did not understand- and then they googled it and were shocked. So, that did not boost confidence in their vegetarianism. They at least admitted that they did not know, but shouldn't they? I ate an egg (real egg) sandwich with vegan cheese and vegan bacon. It was OK, nothing spectacular.
Read moreI also had to use the restroom at one point and was slammed with political messages - Honestly, some were offensive- How is any of that appropriate in a bathroom for a place that serves everyone? Huge turn off.
Pros: has vegan options, coffee was good, the general vibe is good
Cons: don't trust the vegetarianism / unsure if it is, offensive inappropriate messaging in bathroom, the one thing I ate was mediocre

If you’re eating eggs why are you concerned about cheese??

Im not vegetarian but I am Vegan and did not know about the rennet. Thank you for making me aware of that disgusting product used in cheeses.

Thanks for highlighting the rennet issue in cheeses and the turn-off from political messages. I hope we one day live in a world that acknowledges and appreciates the contributions of all.

Tasty breakfast - Edit
We stopped in for coffee and breakfast. The place has a wonderful casual dining experience with several clearly marked vegan items on the menu and in the bakery case. We split the vegan breakfast burrito and vegan breakfast tacos and both were the healthy, hearty breakfast we were hoping for. Service was also very friendly!

Overall, I love coming here for the casual atmosphere, and a proper hot vegan breakfast/brunch. The burrito is ok, looking forward to the pancakes.

Enjoyable and so many options! - Edit
I agree that I wish they didn’t up charge for non-dairy milk, BUT, otherwise, I really enjoyed stopping in here, and found everything to be a good value. Portions were great, everything was flavorful, and there were far more vegan options, both as baked goods and entrees, than I expected. It was hard to choose! We went with the vegan biscuits and gravy special, strawberry chocolate vegan pancakes, and the vegan breakfast burrito. All of it tasted great to me, though I wish they’d done a more traditional southern-style gravy than a brown gravy. The sauce that came with the home fries was outstanding, and the breakfast burrito was moist, flavorful, and came with salsa to dip as well. We also grabbed one of the vegan baked loaf slices (pictured). I’d definitely return the next time I’m in Savannah! I love the environmental focus of the shop, as well.

Sorry but could do better for vegans! - Edit
With the amazing Hungry Vegan being temporarily closed there was no vegan restaurant in Savannah when we passed through so we tried this vegetarian spot. For a restaurant based on ethical eating & coffee, was surprised that there were only 2 fully vegan breakfast options (vegan breakfast burrito or vegan breakfast tacos) and a breakfast bowl that could be made vegan... I just expected there'd be more alternative egg dishes I guess. I didn't see a vegan quiche option.
Read moreI ordered the vegan breakfast burrito, and it was fine but kind of basic , a bit dry and needed salt or more spice. My cappuccino was fine, I didn't love the flavor and there was an extra $1 charge for oat milk.
I appreciate that there is at least a vegan option cafe in Savannah, the to-go containers we're all paper- no plastic in sight, and staff was friendly enough, seemed like it could be good community space supporting LGBTQIA activism and fun on a live music night or movie night but sorry to say we probably won't be stopping in again for coffee or breakfast.
Pros: Cool community space , Good location by Forsyth Park , No plastic
Cons: Only 2 vegan breakfast options, What we ordered was kind of bland, Extra charge for plant milk

A good cafe right across from Forsyth park. The vegan quiche was unique and the vegan breakfast burrito was very flavorful. The oat milk cappuccino was a little too strong 🙂 but flavorful.

Vegan burrito is just okay. - Edit
Food is okay but needs salt and seasoning. I asked for no spinach. They ignored my request and put spinach in my burrito anyway.
Read moreThey do not have the ability to foam milk for the cappuccino. So it's not a real cappuccino. It's just espresso and warmed milk.

Cheap/quick. - Edit
This spot was fine. The menu has 2 main vegan breakfast options (breakfast tacos or buritto) they were both pretty dry and "just fine"

We have been visiting this coffee shop for coffee, pastries, and breakfast for years. The menu has several clearly labeled options for breakfast (all day) & lunch, including limited time specials. It’s always yummy, and the service is always good.

Underwhelming Vegan Options at The Sentient Bean - Edit
As a vegan traveler, finding decent plant-based meals in Savannah is already a challenge, and unfortunately, The Sentient Bean doesn't rise to the occasion. While it’s nice to see another vegan-friendly spot in the area, the overall experience left me disappointed.
Read moreThe oatmeal I ordered was bland for the price. In fact, I feel like I could have made something tastier using the hotel kitchen.
If you're short on choices, it might be worth a try, but don’t expect anything exceptional.

Nice - Edit
I had the BBQ Tofu Burrito that came with a salad. Also has a nice local "summertime lager" with it. Both were great. I ate outside at a table and the light rain that came down didn't much reach me as there was an awning overhead.

Good breakfast, not the best coffee - Edit
We had a nice breakfast at the Sentient Bean where we ordered the vegan breakfast burrito and the chocolate cherry cake. My husband’s breakfast burrito was good, but not the best (could’ve been better if wasn’t as mushy as it was).
Read moreThe coffee was not the best I’ve had. I ordered an oat latte and it was scalding hot when I got it. I had to wait 10 min before even being able to take a sip from it. The oat milk they used wasn’t that good either, it wasn’t creamy at all and it didn’t really feel like it was steamed properly.
Would’ve loved to try the vegan pancakes as I’ve seen other people review here, but I didn’t see them on the menu😔

Great brunch - Edit
Went there for Sunday brunch. Lots of delicious vegan offerings in a restaurant that offers vegan and non-vegan dishes. On Sundays, not only do they have their regular breakfast but they also have seasonal specials like vegan strawberry pancakes and vegan sausage gravy and biscuits. The restaurant is across the street from Forsyth Park so highly recommend a stroll after your meal.

Perfect for vegan breakfast! - Edit
This is my favorite place in Savannah for vegan breakfast. The coffee is top notch, the staff is amazing, and there are multiple hot vegan breakfast items to choose from. It's great to have something other than pastries or oatmeal and the breakfast tacos and breakfast burritos fill the bill. Also the atmosphere is perfect. Definitely recommend a visit here.
