Pretty decent - for the only vegan restaurant on the island - Edit
I was very excited to find that there was a vegan restaurant on the island! I looked up hours and planned to go on Tuesday. When I arrived around noon, no one was there and the the lights were off. We browsed around the store next to the Sanibel Sprout, and then finally saw a women put up a sign on the door saying that they wouldn’t be opening that day. Although I was disappointed, I wanted to be sure I visited the restaurant before leaving the following week. We called the next day to be sure they were open, and thankfully they were. We shared the loaded potato and the burger, and both were pretty good. I was not super impressed, as the service was poor and the people working were not very inviting. Overall, I do not plan on returning here next time we come to Sanibel, but I do highly recommend Sanibel Fresh on the island for GREAT vegan options! (Prices and food are much better, and you definitely get more for your money)

solid-for only vegan option on island - Edit
Really really good food and juices but unorganized store front, not clear where to order and where to pay and everyday I went there they were out of at least 4 or 5 things I asked for. Unfortunately only visited Sanibel for a week so maybe it was a bad week for them but I went mid day everyday and their menu was lacking-if you are able to get what you want food wise however it will be delicious.

Great Food! - Edit
Wonderful food, I went there with my meat eater family and they all enjoyed the food. I had the portabella paradise which was delicious and plenty of food for a great lunch. My brother got the untuna and sprouts, which I loved maybe even more than my own meal. The only downside was that service was slow ( much slowly than you'd expect for a cafe). Don't go on a time crunch, expect a waiting time equal to that of a relatively busy restaurant, even if there are only a few people waiting for food. They have lots of gluten free options, and I would guess can accommodate most dietary needs. Quaint little store with some cool decor, clothing for sale, and other interesting things!

Cons: Slow service, long waiting time for food.

sanibel sprout - Edit
Simply one of the best vegan restaurants I've ever come across. Very large, imaginative menu of which every item I sampled was delicious (and I went several times to try different dishes). Great juices and smoothies also. Also mostly organic!. Funky ambience, limited seating

Wish it was better - Edit
I sometimes think vegans are so happy to find a vegan restaurant, that we praise the business no matter what. We went in to the Sprout after a morning of biking on the island and ordered 2 sandwiches. The menu is up on boards with no listed prices. The decor might be called hippy if you are generous. It is a mish-mash of assorted ugly furniture crowded too close together. There was self serve water with lemon and lime in it, but it wasn't cold. We waited over 45 minutes for our sandwiches, when people who arrived after us had already been served. Once we were served, we had to look around to see where the napkins were, and found the last one which we ripped in half and shared. As it turned out, the sandwiches were good. I just think this place needs better service and a designer that could make it more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing. I wanted to like it, because I, too, am thrilled to find vegan food, but I don't think we will be going back.

poor service - Edit
I have been there before and can say that the food is good. Went there today. It was busy. They took the person’s order in front of me, but when I went the order they said they were too busy and couldn’t take anymore orders. I explained that I drove over an hour to eat at this restaurant. I was then told I should have called first. I told her I tried calling several times and got no answer. She still refused to take my order. I have never been refused service at a restaurant before. The young woman was very rude and unprofessional to me. I know they were busy but that’s not really an excuse for rudeness. Such a shame.

no price on the menu - Edit
We were wondering if we wanted to grab a quick bite before heading out of the island, foods looked and smelled good, a quiet place playing relax music, BUT no price on the menu, it was a bit embarrassing to ask every price for us at such quiet place, we we left. We felt that was a dishonest/psychological trick played on the customers. What not just put everything on the board so we all can make a conscious choice for ourselves?
Read morePros: smelled good, displayed well
Cons: NO PRICE LISTED
NikkiRood
No tricks/there is a full detailed menu on the large community table in the center of the cafe for guests to peruse, which includes all prices. There simply isn't enough room on the chalkboards to fit in all that information. We wish you would have asked and are sorry for your perceptions of our ethics.

Great food - Edit
Stopped for a quick dinner before leaving the island. Food was delicious. There were three of us - we got three different sandwiches and we were happy with our meals. One of us was non-veg - what a great place to show someone how good vegan food can be. Only dessert option left was the donuts with chocolate hazelnut frosting. They were delicious; according to my husband "the best donut he's ever had!"

Wonderful Raw food on Sanibel! Yay! - Edit
I just wanted to leave a review of Sprout! I have been coming to Sanibel for years and I have been a raw vegan for years, so I was absolutely thrilled to find a raw restaurant had opened on Sanibel when I came for my most recent visit. Everything was delicious! I could not get enough of the raw lasagna and I did not need to eat anywhere else while I was visiting Sanibel.

Good food but a little pricey - Edit
Ate here a couple of times in April 2015. The place has only been open at this location a few months (near Bailey's General Store). The food is very good, but the price is a little steep. I paid $9 or more for a chocolate smoothie. Paid $43 for a two-person lunch that included two entrees and two smoothies. But the food is very good. It is all plant-based and mostly organic I think. They serve breakfast all day, and also have several lunch or dinner options. They sell a lot of smoothies, despite the prices. They also stock a small number of vegan food-stuffs like Stevia and Earth Balance. Plus they sell t-shirts, magazines, and a few other items. Seems to be a real family-run business, with as many as three generations working at the shop. The place feels like a sandwich shop, though there are other options, and sandwiches seem to be a small part of the menu. The ambience is not really upscale, though the prices are. But if you are looking for vegan fare on Sanibel, you must check out the Ssanibel Sprout.

My daughter and I are both vegan and from out of state, found this place on Happy Cow. LOVED IT! We got there after the lunch rush and sadly about everything was sold out. But the owner was so kind and whipped us up two of the best hot sandwiches I had in a long time! Was friendly and delish :)

Lovely place, but not entirely vegan. Some of the juices/shots have honey in them, and many of the non-food items had non-vegan ingredients (including gelatin).

Not To Be Missed! - Edit
Your visit to Sanibel Island is not complete without going to The Sanibel Sprout. The quality of the food is on par with with finest vegan restaurants in New York, LA or Chicago. It's not a sit-down dining place. You walk in and you're in a small health food store. Straight back is the smoothie & juice counter with a few stools so you can sit down. You'll also find a refrigerated to-go section with the most to-die-for raw vegan delights you've ever tasted. You can definitely make a lunch of it with their selection of salads, lasagna, etc and desserts. I would stop here every single day for a breakfast smoothie if I could.
Read moreWhatever you do, you have to have one of their smoothies. They'll be among the best you've had in your life.
This is by far the best stop for vegans on the island. My 2nd fave place would be FRESH Taqueria. Next is Sanibel Bean.

The Only Vegan Spot on Sanibel Island - Edit
We visited Sanibel Island during our road trip to the Ft. Myers Beach Florida area. Using our trusty Happy Cow application we were pleasantly surprised to find The Sanibel Sprout.
Read moreThis lovely little shop has a variety of things including prepared vegan (mostly raw) meals and a wonderful Smoothie Bar. Small but very accommodating.
We arrived after the normal lunch hour but Niki, the proprietor was gracious enough to prepare us a fresh 'raw' Mexican salad. Delicious. We started with a couple of excellent smoothies (SO good!) and browsed while our salads were prepared.
If you visit Sanibel Island, we encourage you to visit and have Niki make you a delicious Smoothie. It will make your day; especially after hiking in the nearby Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge!
Pros: Excellent Fresh Smoothie Choices., Delicious Raw Prepared Meals, Accomodating and Friendly Hostess

Heavenly; makes me want to move to Sanibel! - Edit
EVERY DISH was delicious and so obviously prepared with skill, inspiration and love from organic foods. Beautifully seasoned and presented too. All vegan, mostly raw. Loved so much -- the Mexican salad, butternut squash-broccoli, lemon tart and other raw desserts, the divine Asian soup, the juices, the amazing organic coffee mocha drink! GO - but warning - you may start thinking of moving to the island if you don't live there already.
