Outstanding Vegan ‘egg mayo’ sandwich

Varied and delicious food at a reasonable price. Pies, pasties, sandwiches cake, muffins and on and on. One of the staff members laughingly told me the sandwich was exceptional because he had made it and he was not wrong! Big with healthy tasty fillings and the bread was divine. I also had the carrot and coconut cake - heavenly. Big superb lunch at good price. I shouldn’t have eaten it all in one sitting but it was too good and I couldn’t stop eating.

Pros: Vegan options galore, Fantastic service, Delicious food

Great Muffin!

I'd been looking for a vegan blueberry muffin for a while because it was one of those things that I hadn't had since being vegan and I found one in here!

It was delicious.

I did have a look and the pastries also looked delicious but definitely on the expensive side.

Pros: Good muffins, Good vegan options, CBD Location

Cons: Expensive

A little overpriced but nice service

I've got to give it to the owners of this busy little cafe in the city that transitioning to vegan is a tough gig and they have done a fantastic job, its a little overpriced for some of the food but other things I think are worth the price like the brownies and pies. Love that they have the fridge with yay feta and pantry itema such as na's kitchen curry pastes. I was disappointed to discover they still use cows milk but you win some you lose some. The owner really is trying to give back to the vegan community and support other businesses which I love

Cons: Still use cows milk

Impressive range of vegan grub!

I came here for dessert after having lunch at a nearby restaurant. Ideal place to come for a snack on the go, with a decent selection of savoury and sweet options, including hot and cold drinks. Very friendly and helpful staff too. Also stocks a range of vegan groceries.

Okay

Sandwiches a bit overpriced ($16+) for a to-go option. Nori rolls didn’t come with any sauce & hence a bit dry/bland. Mocha was the worst I’ve had

convenient comfort

A good spot to grab a quick lunch or snack. I pop in here often because it’s conveniently close to Flinders St Station and my workplace. All of the food is pre-prepared, as noted. I was surprised to read that someone received unfriendly service. I’ve found there are some really lovely folks working here and all of the staff are at least pretty friendly.

They sell Yay! Foods vegan feta which is a draw card for me. The croissants and raspberry and almond danishes made by Crumbs Organic Bakehouse are favourites as well. The pepper jack pie is a tasty lunchtime treat. Add a serve of the potato and kale salad and it’s a rich, hearty meal. The salads are expensive at around $12 though and recently I noticed the serving size was a lot smaller. You can add side salad for around $4 which is a lot more reasonable but it doesn’t really appeal to me.

Sandwiches are tasty, fresh, and good value. I enjoy their nori rolls with brown rice too. They used to make vegan “tuna” sushi which I think was chickpea based but I haven’t seen that one lately. I wish they’d bring it back.

Pros: pies, sweets

Cons: expensive salad , coffee

Delicious

We ordered their
hummus avocado sandwich for the kids. They ate it so quickly I didn’t even have to ask them twice
The pepper jack pie. It was delicious and just the right amount of spicy.
The kale potato salad. So so good.
And the sausage roll. Everything was delicious. And child friendly.

Pros: All vegan options , Communal seating , Cakes and coffee.

Lots of choices for lunch & dinner sit-in or take-away in CBD

Visited here several times, service always friendly and plenty of choices for lunch & dinner. Twice picked up something in the morning to take while exploring Melbourne and know I had lunch covered for later - both the salad and sandwich were fresh & filling (the kale, potato and corn salad was delicious). And picked up a couple of heated dishes on the way back to hotel - good serve of tasty pasta & sauce but my companion found the calzone very 'bready' with not enough filling. Stopped here early too - not much for breakfast choices, but several fresh juices to choose from. There is seating, several stools inside and a couple of tables outside but it was too cold to stay in the evening or early morning when we visited in early Spring.

Okay

This was a deli in a touristy area of Melbourne, because it is a deli the food is pre-prepared and chilled so it is heated for you in a microwave. Most of it is pasties/pies, also a couple of cakes and sweets. Extra to have salad added which also seemed average. The pasties were pretty good, we also had a sweet which was average. Coffee was disappointing. I’m not sure what wasn’t vegan as everything I saw was marked vegan. Also some pre-packaged food products like Vego spread, pasta etc. which were very expensive as imported. Nice to have lots of central vegan options but I did feel that the overall execution could have been better.

Great Quick Vegan Food

I have been here many times and enjoy the food each visit. Today I enjoyed the tofu and pumpkin pie and quinoa salad. It’s great to have healthier quick food in the city. Staff are friendly and helpful and it’s good people watching under the umbrellas in the laneway. There’s a bit too much packaging with a lot of the food, but I saw someone bringing their own tupperware container to be filled and they were happy to do this.

Very vegan friendly, but bad service

A small deli in a conveniently central location. They serve pies, cakes (some of which is raw and/or sugar free) and some interesting-sounding sandwiches, such as a steak ciabbatta and vegan halloumi. In fact, I haven't found a single item there that would not be vegan. I had a tofu and sweet potato pie, which was OK but not amazing. Same goes for coffee. The little peanut butter cupcake was lush. I'd happily come again to try other offerings, but the service was hmmm...less than pleasant. The girl who worked there threw my coffee on the table and did not respond to me saying thank you (thrice) . She also came back to ask about my order (which is obvs no problem) seemingly annoyed. Maybe I'm being silly here, but this struck me as weird in a city where customer service appeared to be above average.

Pros: Central location , 99% vegan , Outdoor seating

Cons: Bad service, Overpriced salad

Mostly vegan

Now almost all the food – pies, pastries, wraps – is vegan (Oct. 2018). They still offer cow’s milk for coffees, and there is honey in a few things. I had a pumpkin-tofu pie and a spinach-potato roll. The pie had a whole-wheat crust sprinkled with fennel seeds.

Pros: lots of vegan items

Great selection

There was so many vegan choices, it was hard to pick. I got a slice of Vegan Kashmir pie, which was delicious and a hot chocolate. I would of had a chai latte but it contains honey. Hopefully they will get rid of that one day. Seating is very casual, out in the lane.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, sweet and savoury.

Cons: Chai is not vegan.

My go-to spot for vegan pastries in Melbourne CBD

They stock vegan croissants and danishes from Crumbs Organic Bakehouse, and have a wide selection of lunch options, including vegan/veggie pies and calzone.

Pros: Great range of options, Great for discovering new vegan/veggie products, Another store near Oorong Park Tennis Centre

Cons: Sometimes they run out of croissants

Food that tastes healthy

I used to come here all the time when I studied and worked close by.

It's "health" food and it tastes like it, you know? This is the sort of food people THINK vegans eat haha. You would imagine some old hippy with long blonde hair forcing you to eat this at a family reunion.

But it's okay. Not great, but okay. If you're into organic food you'll probably really like it. It's convenient, fast food if you're in a hurry.

If you're anti-woo (like me) avoid reading the posters on the walls.

It's also a bit overpriced for what you get, imo.

Pros: They have vegan food, It doesn't taste horrible

Cons: Lots of woo / pseudoscience , It tastes like it's healthy, A bit overpriced

No breakfast

Based on reviews here we went along for breakfast only to be told by the staff that they don't serve breakfasts - only the prepared food on display such as curries and pies, which we didn't really want for breakfast.
End up having coffee and a vegan blueberry muffin - which was OK.
They are really missing out on the breakfast market as the other cafes in the street were packed with (non-vegan) customers.

Pros: Good selection of ready made vegan food

Cons: No breakfasts !
