More About Me

Reasons why I prefer to eat vegetarian or vegan:

SPECIESISM SUCKS!

I joined HappyCow Members Community because:

Amazing resource for travellers which I'm really grateful for and happy to contribute to. I also just love reading and writing about veg*n food...perhaps to the point of obsession!

Here are some places I've been that I liked... and places that I would like to visit one day:

I've lived in Melbourne and Berlin and love both "hometowns" - both also amazing for vegans. Have travelled quite extensively in Europe and more recently South East Asia. Some favourite places include: Koh Tao, Thailand (not great for vegans), Venice during the Biennale (sucks for vegans!), the Carpathians and other bits of Romania I've seen (eh, VEGAN?), the small island of Ikaria in Greece (again, where's the vegan food, apart from fresh figs growing everywhere?!), Siem Reap in Cambodia (surprisingly great for vegans!). I'm looking forward to travelling in Vietnam in 2015. Would also love to visit Myanmar, Laos, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Burkina Faso, Croatia...

Some of my favorite veg*n foods include:

tempe, broccoli, dumplings, spelt, kimchi, hummus, gai lan, nasu dengaku, cold soba, pad see ew, masala dosa, sauerkraut, pickles, preserved lemons, saffron, pilaf, tagine, dahl, saag aloo, baingan bartha, methi leaves, etc...

Here are some books, movies, magazines, and my favorites that I would recommend to other HappyCow members:

BOOKS: A Confederacy of Dunces, Everything is Illuminated, Sarah Cane Complete Plays, The Outsiders, Catcher in the Rye MOVIES: Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Shortbus, The Wizard of Oz, Die Leben von Anderen, Gegen die Wand, Bad Boy Bubby, Animal Kingdom, Hairspray, Milk TV: Misfits, Girls, 30 Rock, Louis Theroux, Game of Thrones, So You Think You Can Dance, Twin Peaks, The Young Ones MUSIC: Kevin Blechdom, Mouldy Peaches, Boredoms, Klaus Nomi, J.S. Bach, Purcell, Hildegard von Bingen, Nina Hagen, Diamanda Galas, Atari Teenage Riot, Salt n Pepa, Throbbing Gristle, Kraftwerk, Fuck Buttons, AC/DC, Lotte Lenya, Marlene Dietrich, The Smiths, Einst├╝rzende Neubauten, Gravy Train!! PODCASTS: Savage Love, Here's the Thing, Sex Out Loud
