Arguably 5 star - Edit
After experiencing the mildly amusing steam train ride, 5 of us (vegans bar one Spanish disappointment) were unfathomably hungry so used happy cow to preempt arguing about somewhere to eat, much to our enjoyment we found this place and was welcomed at the door by the friendly waitress who had a cracking sense of humour, we had to wait 10 minutes but that’s ney a bad thing as she was sanitising our table, safety first folks.
Read moreAbout half the menu can be made vegan, and that’s no exaggeration. It’s a big menu. There’s an all day breakfast, jacket potatoes, soups, burgers and more.
Here’s the killer detail, there was only TWO ladies and they shipped out 5 breakfasts to us in ample time, all of which was prepared consciously as to make sure nothing vegan had touched anything that had been used to prepare meat, legends.
They also accommodate dogs just as well as humans which is a huge bonus.
Pros: Plenty of vegan options on a big menu, A lot can be made vegan you just have to ask , Dog friendly, people friendly.

A happy place - Edit
We stumbled into the Old Coach House in Lynton as the owner invited us in on a Saturday afternoon shortly before closing time. We got a freshly cooked meal (bubble&squeak and a bean stew) and lemonades, and enjoyed a brief chat with the proprietor. There even would have been vegan fruit cake - but we were too full to consider it :).
