Excellent

We ate here on Friday, the 3rd of October 2026. We ordered the vegan mushrooms on sourdough to start with and the vegan fish and chips. The meal was absolutely fabulous. Seasoned and cooked so perfectly, we gave compliments to the chef. Good range of vegan beer and wine, staff had a good knowledge of vegan friendly food and drink and were also happy to check when unsure. They were so friendly too. Will absolutely be back!

Vegan fish and chips

Excellent! Really enjoyed our meal here. Vegan fish and chips I think was based off banana blossom as it had that texture, very nice. Although it didn't have any nori seaweed (for that fishy flavour) but it was really good even so.

Pros: Vegan fish and chips

Vegan roast!!

Had a delicious vegan Sunday roast. It wasn't obvious it was an option on the menu but they were very happy to accommodate - I had vegan sausages (made out of potato and beans/peas - not mock meat). Potatoes were delicious. Unfortunately the Yorkshire pudding wasn't vegan (I have rarely come across this). They also had another vegan option which sounded tasty - asparagus and pea orzo.

Pros: Option for vegan roast, Nice staff

Cons: Served Yorkshire pudding despite not being vegan

Vegan night

Went to a vegan night where there was a full vegan menu at a very reasonable price (£20 two courses, £25 three). The Sauvignon blanch is vegan. Dog friendly

Extremely poor for vegetarians or vegans, especially on a Sunday.

Went here with an omnivore who very much enjoyed his Sunday Roast (beef). I try to eat a plant based diet where possible but end up being vegetarian when out (vegan people - you’ll know why!). When it comes to a Sunday Roast I’ll very happily quaff all the veg with a nice veggie gravy. No need for meat, though a veggie sausage might be a welcome addition. Heaven! But there was really no way to do this here. They don’t do a veggie gravy. Just a gravy that’s made through the week with “all sorts of stuff chucked in”, including meat and bones (according to the waiter). So not an option for me. So disappointing since veggie gravy is very easy to make. Instead I had to settle for the Jackfruit ‘burger’ which was not a burger at all. It was a pile of jackfruit (neither pulled nor held together) in a very bland tomato sauce in a bun. Awful. Sloppy. Tasteless.

My OH suggested I turn up with a little flask of my own vegan gravy next time. Not a bad idea, but I really shouldn’t have to.

Had any of the staff noticed my hardly touched food and asked if everything was ok with my meal I’d have told them directly. But they took the money for the bill with no enquiry as to how things had been, so here it is instead…

Cons: Terrible vegan offering. , Terrible veggie offering. , Definitely don’t go on a Sunday…

Dinner at The Heart of Northumberland

Had dinner at The Heart of Northumberland today. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. Although there was only one main Vegan dish, the Falafel Burger was so good. Oh not forgetting the Hummus, Pita and Olives were great too.

Pros: Falafel Burger. , Hummus, Pita and Olives. , Staff helpfulness and knowledge.

Cons: Only one Vegan mains. , No Vegan Pudding.

Pleasant and Accommodating

Been here a couple of times and it did cross my mind to add it to Happy Cow based on the fact it has labelled vegan options, a vegan wine list and holds vegan dinner events. Have enjoyed sharing light tapas and snacks here consisting of hummus and vegetables with warm pitta, hand cut chips and some sweet potato fries. If you like a Sunday lunch they do a vegan roast option. The beer’s good, wine’s safe to drink and there’s a very welcoming atmosphere. Friday evenings are particularly recommended.

Pros: Vegan labelling , Vegan wines , Cask ales

Cons: Quite a lot of meat on the menu
