SIMPLY WONDERFUL ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Edit
This cafe is absolutely wonderful. The food is fresh and delicious and the portions are generous. The owner is passionate about healthy food and really knows her stuff. Everything is reasonably priced and all dishes are clearly cooked with love and attention to detail. Nothing is too much trouble and Julie is so incredibly helpful. She has a great understanding of food and 'clean eating' without bombarding the body with nasty additives. There really is something for everyone at The Grain, Im gluten free and vegan and Im easily catered for, unlike so many other cafes. The Grain is situated inside Halifax Borough Market and there are tables nearby if you wish to eat in (table service is provided), or you can take away if you wish. Currently cash or bank transfer is preferred. Looking forward to my next visit and many more after that!

Hidden Gem - Edit
Me and my partner had a lovely meal here. Julie was down to earth, friendly and passionate about serving nutritious, flavourful food (in generous portions) to locals and visitors alike😄The atmosphere was very laid back, I'll likely go again next time I'm in the area. Just remember to bring cash!

Hi Mark, I’m in Halifax right now and have looked everywhere and asked people but can’t find this cafe. Any tips on how to find it much appreciated. Thanks

nice - Edit
This place has actually closed down and probably need to remove this from your site, the lady who owned it was likeable, talkative and wanted to give the best service to her customers, the food was fresh as it was made daily and overall a nice spot to grab a healthy snack

Er, the Grain has /not/ closed down - I had a Vegan Curry and a smoothie there about an hour ago! A few months back The Grain moved from the long wall on the side to a smaller kiosk just opposite, so perhaps you just missed it (or visited on a Sunday/Monday when it's not typically open).

I pass there daily from Monday-Friday so perhaps its only open during the weekends then, opposite the long wall is another cafe? :/

The Grain is open Tuesday - Saturday each week. It's actually open tomorrow (Sunday) too this week due to the busy Xmas period.

We indeed are not closed down! We moved a few months ago - just take a 180 spin and you will see our new unit. (Just above Concorde)
And we are open Tuesday - Saturday.
We have had it pinned to our social media but we will also update Happy Cow now to make it clear - thank you for bringing it to our attention and we hope to see you again now you know we aren’t closed down.
Merry Christmas😄

Top veggie breakfast - Edit
Lovely little veggie cafe in Halifax’s Victorian borough market. Delicious veggie breakfast and the owner even took time to help an elderly chap down the slope to another cafe. Legend!

Good quality, good value vegan choices - Edit
Seeking vegan food late afternoon, I entered the beautiful Borough Market building and discovered The Grain. Just about everything is home made. I was served by Julie, who provided a great coffee with oat milk, a delicious all-day vegan breakfast, and a lovely vegan scone with jam for pudding, totalling less than £15. The atmosphere is great with lots of vibrancy and local character, and everyone is very friendly. It's a lovely change from the chain coffee shops and cafes in every town. I was so pleased, I returned for a breakfast-time smoothie, coffee and vegan breakfast the next day.

Great service & food. Lovely lady serving was very helpful and allowed me to make a bank transfer as I didn’t have cash.

Delicious food at reasonable prices - Edit
The Grain Cafe is set in the historic indoor market in Halifax, and - not being local - we struggled to find it at first. With the kind help of another stall-holder, we got there in the end. And we were glad we persevered in finding it.

Delish xmas dinner! - Edit
Hoped to pick up a late lunch and as they’d run out of soup the owner said if I wanted she’d make me a vegan Christmas dinner! So glad I said yes, it was really delicious- homemade mushroom & chestnut wellington and cranberry sauce along with sprouts, roasted parsnips, carrots, mash and gravy. All divine. Will be back for sure, what a gem

A Hidden Gem - Edit
Found this place completely by accident walking through the market. Completely vegetarian although it looked like most options were actually vegan. Didn’t have anything to eat as had already there but had lovely freshly made juices. The staff there are lovely and welcoming too.

Fresh, Homemade & Friendly - Edit
Such a Vegan & Vegetarian Gem! It's always hard to find somewhere nice to eat in Halifax that's fully Vegan/Vegetarian. The Owner was soooon Friendly and Knowledgeable, having studied Nutrition. I had Avocado on Toast which was DELIGHTFUL, AND the Bread was Homemade! My Partner had the Veg & Chickpea Curry with Rice, which he Devoured! Excellent Quality and Quantity. I will DEFINITELY be Visiting again. Highly Recommend!
