Decent enough - Edit
Had the banana blossom 'fish' & chops at The Den, the pub part of the venue. It was a bit greasy but good enough.

Loved the vegan options - Edit
Had the banana blossom and chips, burger, vegan crumble and Penang curry.
Read moreThey were all delicious and decent sized portions. The banana blossom came with mushy peas, tartar sauce and loads of fat chips. Only down side was how much batter there was! Others all really tasty too and came with a nice portion of veg with each. Crumble was particularly nice and interesting choice with creamy sauce. Also pizza on the menu which we saw people take away.
Pros: Decent sized portions, Fresh veg, Good options on the main menu
Cons: Penang curry was really spicy even for spice lover, Couldn't see any desert options

Average - Edit
Our group of 3 had bruschetta, olive / flatbread and the soup (pea and watercress velouté). Felt that the portions were small (although these were starters) and would agree with the other reviewer, needed salt. We were seated near the condiments, which is a draughty place to sit even on a hot day, with endless kitchen door banging only yards away. Wished we had made sandwiches.

Great Vegan Options But! - Edit
We were staying at Kielder Water in one of the lodges and as there is nowhere else around the area, booked a table for dinner in The Oasis the fine dining venue. The 3 course menu is £34.95 (so not cheap) but thought we would treat ourselves. Great to have a couple of choices for each course, we were served bread rolls and vegan margarine to start. They list which wines are vegan friendly too and the views are stunning. We had pea veloute and tomato and avocado tian to start then banana blossom fish and chips and gnocchi with kale pesto and vegan cheese for mains. There was a distinct lack of seasoning on the starters and mains especially salt, don't the chefs taste their food. The portions were a good size and the food was tasty enough. Desserts were chia pudding and coconut panna cotta...sadly these were not great, the panna cotta was solid and rubbery and the chia pudding was the same, so we left them. Overall its great to have vegan options and with just a few tweaks it could be fantastic, but was it worth £34.95, sadly not.
Read moreWe visited the pub part of The Forest Inn before we left, the menu had three starters, five mains (not sure of desserts as we were too full. We ordered pea soup, vegan burger and a vegan summer pizza. The food was delicious, my husband said the burger was as good as any he had eaten in the past. The pizza was lovely with plenty roast vegetable topping, great tomato sauce and perfect with a vegan red wine we chose. We would definitely revisit the pub part of The Forest Inn, much better value for money and better food we thought.
