Amazing food! - Edit
Whole vegan section of the menu with great options! The staff was so accommodating even though there was a language barrier, and the food was incredible! It can be hard to find food that is an actual full meal (especially with protein) but this was exactly what I hoped for. Would definitely come here again! (Only 4 stars cause Happy Cow won’t allow 5 stars on a non-vegan restaurant)

This was my third attempt to eat Greek in Berlin as a vegan. And although it was not perfect, it was the best out of three. There is a separate vegan menu which is a plus. The waiter was singing.

I think I immediately recognised the seitan patties – fake meat disguised as gyros – which you’re served at almost every shawarma place (though there they’re disguised as shawarma). The bifteki was a ready-made burger from the supermarket. It did have fresh herbs, though, and you don’t find that on your plate everywhere.
Pros: Separate vegan menu, Very kind and singing waiter, Not to expensive
Cons: Not all is home made as stated on the menu

At the same time, we would like to clarify one important point: it is not our intention to mislead anyone with our menu. Nowhere do we claim that EVERYTHING is homemade. However, we can confidently say that over 90% of our dishes are in fact prepared in-house.
When we highlight “homemade,” we are referring to specific components we truly make ourselves – for example our vegan tzatziki, which we are particularly proud of.
The vegan gyros and vegan bifteki are not homemade. However, they are also not standard supermarket products or typical seitan-based items like those often found in shawarma places. We use a carefully selected product from Greece based on pea protein, which has its own distinct taste and texture.
At the same time, through fresh herbs and additional components, we give these products our own signature touch – something that is also reflected in the many positive reviews we receive.

Sowohl Gyros als auch Bifteki sind sehr empfehlenswert. Dazu gibt's ein leckeres selbst gemachtes Tzaziki. Ist mir unbegreiflich warum der Laden bei der Qualität an veganen Produkten noch zusätzlich Tierleichen im Angebot haben muss.

Tolle Auswahl & tolle Atmosphäre - Edit
Es gibt viele vegane Gerichte auf der Karte. Unter anderem auch sehr sehr leckeren veganen Tzatziki. Von Außen sieht der Laden nicht so ansprechend aus aber sobald man rein kommt ist es eine sehr schöne gemütliche Atmosphäre. Wenn ich wieder nach Berlin fahre würde ich auf jeden Fall wieder vorbei schauen.

Es war eine tolle Erfahrung. Es gibt fast jede bekannte Speise in einer Veganen Variante. Wir hatten einen Grillteller & es hat echt alles überzeugt! Dazu war das Ambiente total schön und die Bedingung unheimlich nett und aufmerksam. Haben auch je 3 Ouzo aufs Haus bekommen. Ich wünschte es wäre rein Vegan, dann würde ich liebend gerne 5 Sterne geben!

Desserts gab es bei uns zuletzt nicht in vegan, dafür aber einen kleinen süßen Gruß als Ausgleich. Der Service ist wirklich nett, sehr umsichtig und legt Wert darauf, dass alle satt, zufrieden und mit gutem Gefühl nach Hause gehen.

Full disclosure, I have to admit the main reason why I wanted to visit Taverna Athene was this gorgeous phyllo dessert: https://www.happycow.net/reviews/taverna-athene-berlin-345057/images#i=2493662. Upon hearing they only do vegan desserts at weekends I was beyond bummed out. I thought I would let Al Catzone take care of my sweet tooth after the meal, but darn, it was going to be too late for that. As such, my first impression of this place was one of disappointment, and the fact that one needed to scan a QR code in order to access the vegan section of the menu didn't help either, as it doesn't exactly promote veganism.
Read moreKeen to try a variety of dishes, I went for the vegan mix grill. Three meaty options that, while properly grilled, I found mostly salty, despite accompaniment in the form of tzatziki. The garlic potatoes (pretty much chips/fries) didn't take the meal to another dimension either. Granted, I didn't choose those items at gunpoint, though I couldn't help but feel that I would have been much better off had I picked gigantes and other starters.. only that tasting menu called for a minimum of two guests, if memory serves me right. If I am ever to return to this place, I will ensure to properly do my homework, and hopefully the restaurant will do its part, too. After all, a meal without a dessert feels incomplete.

We also always have a vegan year on offer now, but not always the one with the filo dough. Too bad about the two star review, but we will draw the right conclusions from it.

We found Taverna Athene almost by accident one day last summer and absolutely loved it. The staff is so friendly and accommodating, and it has a real family business vibe to it that a lot of hip vegan restaurants are missing. The food was absolutely delicious, and the vegan menu has a lot of options that are partly naturally vegan, like stuffed vine leaves and beans but also some very tasty fake meat options. I can definitely recommend it, especially for a mixed group of meat eaters and vegans because everyone will find something.

Das Taverna Athene bietet eine vielfältige Auswahl an griechischen Speisen, darunter auch eine große Auswahl an veganen Gerichten. Die vegane Karte bietet Vorspeisen und Hauptgerichte an. Leider sind die Beilagen nicht gekennzeichnet, ob sie vegan sind, und müssen separat erfragt werden. Dennoch war mein „Mix Grill Vegan“ authentisch und lecker zubereitet, begleitet von einem köstlichen hausgemachten Tzatziki. Ich freue mich darauf, das Restaurant wieder zu besuchen!
