Tane Vegan Izakaya - Edit
It was just OK. Their sister location in San Francisco (Shizen) executed the food much better.

I would say the same. I was going to post a review but saw this and thought. Yep, what you said. The ramen was better than the sushi.

Make reservations, they stay booked! Everything was phenomenal! - Edit
We were visiting friends in Hawaii and my husband and I are both vegan. We got lucky and got reservations the day before, to sit at the bar. If you’re in Honolulu I definitely recommend making reservations early! I have no complaints. Loved everything we ordered. Great service, food arrived as expected. Will return if we return to Honolulu!

Still thinking of this place after my trip and compare every vegan sushi place in California to it. The sushi dishes steal the show.

Terrible customer service - Edit
made reservations two months in advance using the app on their website. When we arrived our reservation was not in their system. Rather than apologizing, the hostess implied we lied and stated “ We don’t even take reservations for that time “ ( they do, photos attached!). This was the most rude human I have ever spoken with in food service. I calmly explained it was a special occasion and we booked several months in advance. She shouted “it’s a special occasion FOR EVERYONE!”. At this point the sushi chefs began to stare, as well as the other patrons. She then stated she could seat us at the bar ( where we made our reservation) while we dined the entire bar remained empty, my guess due to reservation problems with the web site. No one ever apologized for THEIR mistake, or the way we were treated upon arrival. The food was phenomenal and our server was great. It was difficult to enjoy it with the sour hostess walking by giving nasty looks while we dined. I hardly ate because I was still shaking from being treated with such hostility by someone who’s job is to Provide customer service. If the website had a contact I would email the owner.

Great in presentation and taste - Edit
What an experience at Tane Vegan Izakaya. The restaurant is modern with a chiq design and tableware. I ordered two specialty rolls, wondering if it was going to be enough food. It was actually more than enough, and I took home leftovers. I would not order the Point Reyes again—as much as I have a sweet tooth, something about the pickled pineapple didn’t blend well with the rest of the roll. It was REALLY pretty and looked like a conventional sushi roll. On the other hand, The Wedge was extremely edible and dependable. I don’t even know what was in it, I just put it in my mouth. YUM. And the service...as busy as they were, was wonderful. My server was super warm and genuine, I didn’t feel like she turned it on just when she was working.

Wow! It was crazy delicious! - Edit
Even if you don’t normally eat plant based you have to try this place! Friendly staff and nice ambiance but the food absolutely blew me away. I especially loved the Wedge, it far-exceeded my expectations. The shizen shiitake was also delicious. We were full but had to try dessert. Also amazing. I have a feeling everything is good here!

Truly a masterpiece - Edit
I had to check this place out on my visit to Oahu, and it truly surpassed my expectations. If you are a fan of Japanese food, this place is for you! This plant based Japanese restaurant offers many different types of unique plant based rolls. They all look like a piece of art and taste even more incredible. I got the Philadelphia roll, the wedge and their spicy ramen. Every bite packed a punch of robust flavor. I can’t wait to come back here again and try their other rolls. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The ambience was also amazing. However, I would suggest to make a reservation as it does get crowded.

Food****
All the food options looked really good especially if you’re into sushi. I am not but my partner loves it. He ordered a speciality roll called the Wedge, which had tofu on it. It was a bit too spicy for him and he did not enjoy it because of that. However, if you like spicy I recommend. The tofu and spice they added was so good in my opinion. I only ate that part of it because I hate any taste of seafood—especially seaweed. I ordered the Shizen Shitake and Gyozo Dumplings. The dumplings were so tasty and soft with tofu in them. The dipping sauce was just right sweet and salty. The Shizen Shiitake was also really good. I highly recommend both dishes. Additionally, we ordered the basil Mojito and that was probably the best Mojito I ever had—refreshing and delicious!
Service***
The service was good but I was slightly disappointed in the fact that we had to sit at the sushi bar even though there was available seating. I had asked them prior to going if they would call or text us to let us know if there would be available seating but they did not. The service while there was great and our waiter was attentive. This would have gotten 5 stars if it wasn’t for the table situation.
Atmosphere****
Nice, low lighting, plenty of seating and parking onsite in a parking lot next door. The sushi bar was quiet and the chef was very friendly. All staff wearing masks due to covid-19. I was pleasantly surprised with this hidden gem
Price$$$
Pricey but worth it. Each dish averages $16.

Best Vegan Sushi. Period. - Edit
We'd tried Tane's sister restaurant in SFO a couple years back, so we knew we had to stop here on our trip to Honolulu. It's absolutely amazing! The staff is friendly and made great recommendations. Our favorite roll is the Pointe Reyes followed by the Wedge, but you can't go wrong with any of them. For a fun game, get the Barber.

Great food & service - Edit
Great place for vegan Japanese food. Great service too. We went during a time when restaurant seating was limited due to COVID. We had 2 meals & the sushi was awesome. They have unique menu items, so don't expect a standard sushi or Japanese menu. Parking was on the street.

Amazing vegan Japanese food - Edit
All of the reviews that I read for Tane Vegan Izakaya were overwhelmingly positive, and I've been waiting to check it out. We did a take-out order, and it was ready about 15 minutes faster than expected. I tried the vegan tempura and the Half Moon roll (tempura roll w/ sweet potato, bean curd, pickled mango, tomato, onion, yuzu, shiso, jalapeno), and I loved it all! The tempura was a bit oily, as one would expect from fried food, but the taste was great. I also really appreciate that their menu shows the ingredients and has a convenient nut-free box for those of us with allergies. I can't wait to visit Shizen in San Francisco!

Yum! - Edit
I got doordash delivery because COVID, so I can't comment on the restaurant, but the sushi was fantastic. Spring for the specialty rolls, like the Wedge. The regular rolls, like the Philadephia, were a bit bland for my taste. Def get the nigiri and the gyozas and all the things with eggplant. Okay I'm a little obsessed. It's hard to find good vegan sushi!

Not accommodating to walk ins and cannot put in carry out orders. Honestly feel like it was the way we were dressed, in active wear, we walked 40 mintues to eat there, trying to get some exercise and see the town on vacation. Very much wanted to try the food bit will probably not try again. Super unfortunate. Ended up at a local bar that served vegan food and it was amazing. Recommend not going.
