10/10- Definitely worth the drive! - Edit
We recently traveled to Small Batch from Indiana. It was excellent. Highly recommend it. The food was incredible and the waitstaff was super friendly and very helpful. We’ll definitely be traveling back just to visit this restaurant!
Read moreI had an Asian dish with tofu and veggies that were very well seasoned. My husband had some pasta with eggplant. The sauce complimented the noodles well, the eggplant was incredible. Never had eggplant prepared the way they did. It was very good!
Only regret is not being able to come back a second time!

Unforgettable Lion's Mane Mushrooms - Edit
Excellent, upscale date spot with some of the best fancy vegan options I've seen. I've never had Lion's Mane mushrooms before, and the way they prepared it was perfectly soft and crumbly. It had a great seafood taste similar to something like lobster and I haven't had anything like it since going vegan. The brussel sprouts and sundae was absolutely amazing as well.

Fantastic Fine Dining Date Night Spot! - Edit
This place is quite fancy and romantic. They had nice ambient lighting and an upstairs seating area. The food was absolutely delicious and most of the menu is vegan (only 2 dishes had cheese). My date and I split the Lion's Mane fare, Brussels Sprouts small fare, and a Sundae. The whole experience was so wonderful. The only con is the portion sizes are quite small! I would still highly recommend though. It's the perfect place to go on a date.

Whiskey discovery - Edit
The menu is predominantly vegan with two vegetarian dishes which the server told us about. I had the white bean appetizer, green fried rice and crème brûlée. All were good. My partner had the schnitzel. Also good if you have a craving for schnitzel. Whiskey tasting also great. Would definitely recommend this place for a fun evening.

Nothing Special - Edit
Things have ranged from just ok to bad. For example, the brownie I had was tragic. The GF pancakes were ok. They were missing that buttery magic that pancakes are supposed to have (like at Treehouse). The menu has changed so I would be willing to give them another try. Hopefully, they’ve improved the taste and quality.

100% vegan and almost entirely gluten-free! - Edit
We are traveling to see family and Dan’s nephew took us here for dinner. Wow. The whiskey and mixed drinks were great, but the food was the star attraction. We started either the miso white bean dip and the tempura cauliflower. Then Dan had them substitute rice noodles for the bucatini pasta and had it covered with a sage and pumpkin seed pesto. I had the Country Captain with chickpeas, cauliflower, etc. Divine! Only wished I had room for dessert at the end.

Everything is Vegan! Even their desserts. What a wonderful evening of food and drinks. - Edit
Although I read Small Batch was “vegan options” it turns out, everything (even this delicious Chocolate S’Mores Brownie Dessert) is vegan. If you’re looking for something more relaxing and not just a quick diner experience when it comes to vegan dine-out, Small Batch is the place.

I wonder why they are listed here on HC as vegetarian instead of vegan. There must be something non-vegan.

Hey all, update: I went back recently and they switched up the menu quite a bit actually. So I'm not sure what happened but this time my vegan friendly options were limited.

Wonderful - Edit
What a lovely dining experience. Great food, great drinks, great service. Prices are fairly standard for a nice meal out in St Louis. Almost everything can be made vegan and servers ask up front and tell you what can’t be. You’ll want to try a few dishes, so go with someone and share! We got two small plates, a small soup, and one main for two people and were too full for dessert (probably could’ve skipped the soup, but it was light and tasty so worth it). We each also had two of their incredibly inventive cocktails!

Go. Seriously! - Edit
Outstanding and a MUST-DO in St. Louis, whether you are vegetarian or not. I've been to a lot of restaurants in my 62 years (veg and non-veg) and this place rises to the top of my faves. The menu is eclectic and crowd-pleasing and the food is ridiculously delicious. If I didn't live in San Francisco, I'd be here often. And it doesn't hurt that it has one of the most creative adult drinks menus ever. Go. Seriously.

Nice night out - Edit
Small batch has GREAT food with very large portions. I had the buffalo cauliflower appetizer, as well as the tacos (veganized). My friend got the poutine and the pad thai. The tacos were basically just beans and sliced fried avocado with raw cabbage on top. They were okay, but I wouldn't get them again. The buffalo cauliflower was delicious, but the pad thai was the star -- baked tofu and a good selection of green veggies mixed into the noodles, with a really lovely sauce. My friend said the poutine was the best she had ever had. Also, if whisky is your thing, they have SO many kinds to choose from!!

Urbane and Delicious - Edit
I was passing through on my way back to Cincinnati, and this was one of the only veg places still open after 9 on a Monday, so I went for it almost by default.
Read moreI’m glad I did.
This is a nice place. The interior is very well decorated, with a lot of ambiance.
More importantly, the two dishes I tried were excellent. Just a really high food quality. I started with the cauliflower wings. They were deep fried, and when combined with vegan ranch or honey mustard, they took on more of the flavor of a hush puppy than a chicken wing. Still, they were really good.
For a main course I had the Pad Thai, and it’s easily the most flavorful, nuanced Pad Thai I’ve ever had. There was just so much depth to it. If you’re used to a sweeter Pad Thai, as I was, you may be disappointed, as this is a more savory take on the dish, but the quality of it made up for any lack of sweetness.
As other reviewers have mentioned, the portion sizes are fair, if not generous. It’s pricey by Midwestern standards but would be a bargain on the west coast.
My only frustration was that, perhaps because it was late, the bartender who was serving me was quite preoccupied with doing her closing duties and getting out of there. I’m fairly chill about service, but her head was somewhere else completely, and I struggled to get her attention when I actually needed something.
Overall just really refined, quality food that’s mostly vegan.
Pros: High quality, All entrees can be made vegan, Delicious

I had a special that isn't on the everyday menu, it was a vegan risotto made with coconut milk and topped with tofu 'scallops' and it was SO good. Super creamy and delicious, and the atmosphere is really nice, great for a date night.

Great for Date Night - Edit
Love being able to go to this hip restaurant for date night with my husband. On our first trip, we got the Pad Thai and Shepherd’s Pie (one of the specials - adapted to make it vegan). Both were amazing. I still have dreams about the Pad Thai, so we both end up getting it each time we’ve been back.

Creative Concept, Decent Food - Edit
I love the idea of Small Batch, an all vegetarian whisky bar and restaurant. I have been a couple of times for dinner and once for brunch and always thought my food was pretty good and the decor is beautiful. It surprises me somewhat that they do not cater a little more to vegans, though. The menu changes frequently and nothing is marked vegan/vegan option available, so you have to ask every time. I am a little spoiled in that I like to be able to look at the menu and know ahead of time what my options. Every time I have gone though, there have been good vegan options. The majority of their dinner entrees and small plates can be made vegan, with usually a couple that are vegan as-is. Usually if it is not already vegan, they omit cheese in the vegan option, and they have no replacement (also a little frustrating or at least surprising at a vegetarian place). Entrees are an eclectic mix with things like pasta carbonara, celariac with farro and greens puree, pad thai, risotto, etc. While tofu shows up in a couple of places on the menu, they really don't include a lot of protein in their dishes. Brunch had less vegan options than dinner, but I had French Toast with fried potatoes, which was tasty.

Creative, hip, and exciting! - Edit
I loved the drink selection, and although I enjoyed my waffles with caramelized bananas, bourbon-peach compote, and smoked almond butter, I did find the waffles to be pretty dry (gluten-free, maybe?) and the smoked almond butter to be VERY strong (almost overwhelming); however, the presentation was beautiful, the flavors mixed well, and the drink I had complimented it nicely. The chef OUTDID himself (or herself) when we ordered a side of potatoes and a masterpiece of potatoes with a tomato-based sauce came out....I could have eaten it for days. It was glorious! We were there on a Sunday afternoon and the place was completely empty, so we had it to ourselves.
