I made a point to stop in bc the internet said Saint Jean was the place to get a vegan appeltaartje, but unfortunately they didn't have one. Staff said they usually only have them in the fall, so, fyi.
Read moreSince I'm not one to pass up vegan pastry, I made some alternate selections, one was a savory option with some mushrooms and kale and what I think was a cheese-esque cream. It was good, it also had a bit of some sort of veggie jam and that was my favorite part of it, so I feel like it could have used a bit more. It was beautiful though (and I forgot pictures) and the pastry was really flaky.
I got a sweet option also.
I think they have different pastries day to day. They also had a few sandwiches in the case. The person before me was looking for something that had sold out already that day, so if you want to guarantee your best choice, you may want to go early. I came in a bit after lunch time.

Im not a huge fan of coffee and I got a iced cold foam pistachio thinking it would taste like pistachio and it didn't haha. Which was fine, I just was not expecting it.

Saint-Jean bakery and deli - Edit
Every time I visit the bakery and deli I want to try everything, because all the baked goods are absolutely beautiful! The pistachio filling is especially amazing. Every pastry I tried so far was delicious and such high quality. The only downside is that it’s a bit pricy. However it’s totally worth your time and money!! The deli across the street is a lovely place to enjoy your baked goods with coffee (and pistachio milk). I highly recommend to go out your way to stop by!

Probably the best vegan pastries I have had (specifically the pain Suisse was sublime). I made my way to the city during a long layover to check out this bakery and it was 100% worth it. Check the deli across the street for more savory items!

Some truly amazing looking pastries here. We loved it so much we came back twice during our 3 days in Amsterdam. If only there was such a place in London. I would also be interested to know how many of the clientele are not vegan since there is no overt advertisement the place is vegan.

This place was on my list for a while. Finally had the chance to visit Saint-Jean and it was amazing! I choose the cruffin with blueberries (recommended by the staff) and the cinnamonbun. Both were so good! Amazing! 🤩 Very friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Must visit when you are in Amsterdam! 💚

The pain au chocolat is one of the best ones I’ve ever had. The pistachio croissant was also great, and coffee was really good. The café is 100% plant-based, with some seats inside. It’s very popular, so it’s better to come early!

The cruffin is quite sugary and rich (with the pistachio filling), I had a bit of a sugar rush afterwards haha. Glad to see they’re still very popular. The barista was really friendly!

I tried the Danish (yogurt and mango), as well as the Blueberry cruffin. The Danish was absolutely outstandind, juicy inside and crispy outside. The mango filling was very fragrant and tasted natural. The cruffin was good, though I’ve had better ones (in Prague). The coffee was also good. I was lucky to wait in line for literally only 3 minutes, but by the time I picked up my order, a huge queue had already formed behind me. It would also be great if there were more seats inside, because the place is very cozy 🙏

It was a bit like a military operation trying to find seating even on a Monday morning. There was a line out the door and seats were full inside and out. I sent my partner to order coffees at their deli opposite to try to secure seating as it looked hopeless here. Super difficult to choose but I ordered the blueberry pistachio cruffin and pain suisse. My partner managed to get coffees and seats at their deli where I enjoyed the pastries. Sadly the server gave me the plain pistachio version rather than the blueberry one. It was divine though still covered with sugar and filled with pistachio paste. The pain suisse was incredible too with custard and dark chocolate. I’d love to try everything on the menu and eat those again too. Sad we live so far away.

Most Perfect Pastery I Ever Had - Edit
I think I might have just gotten the most perfect pastery I ever had. I got a blueberry pistachio cruffin that had the perfect flakiness and a very tasty pistachio and blueberry filling. I will remember it for a long time. Definitely recommend!

The place is very popular, so there was a queue outside the door and no place to sit inside. But it's worth the hype. The salted caramel and coffee bun was one of the best buns I've ever had. Also loved the double baked almond, blueberry and pistachio cruffin. The other two croissants were also epic. Wish I could have tried them all :D
