Nice pastry - Edit
There weren't that many options for pastry (3) although it was still early afternoon. I was hoping for more options.
Read moreA handfull of seating places, very cramped together, so that was not really comfortable (and not accessible - stairs going up).
Very friendly. Bright place.

Daaaagggg Trudi, We are heading to amsterdam Friday-Sunday for my birthday. We go to Bonboon as our 1 "fancy dinner" and planned to go to more casual joints like this one for the rest. Any top recommendations aub? grts

Worth the hype - Edit
There was a terribly long line out the door, even though I visited on a rainy day. Luckily, it moved quite quickly. They kept on bringing out new pastries so everything was still in stock when I visited (around 12:30 pm). I’ve had vegan pastries like croissants, pain-au-chocolates and danishes before so I opted for the Pear Hazelnut Bostok to-go. I warmed it up and ate it the next day and it still tasted really good. Them already double-baking it keeps it from becoming dry. Though it’s definitely pricey and therefore only an occasional treat, I will definitely be visiting again (that salted pistachio soft serve is still high up on my list).
Read moreOh and; please be respectful to the staff and don’t take pictures of them if they ask you not to. As someone who works in the service industry, it is really quite annoying and makes us uncomfortable. Thank you🫶
Pros: Delicious and unique pastries, Kind staff that really care about the experience.
Cons: Busy

Visited this place and the line was out the door! Once inside, I had a hard time deciding what to try. I eventually settled on the Bostok Raspberry Pistachio and a pea latte, which I had never had before. It was quite good.

Delicious - Edit
Absolutely delicious pastries! I got the pistachio cruffin and the pain au chocolat. They were flaky, buttery and super filling. I loved that everything was vegan but you’d never know, their marketing was subtle.
Read moreNote: Eat the cruffin dining in and not as takeout. There aren’t many places to sit, so we had to eat it while walking and it had x10 more pistachio cream inside than I was expecting and it got absolutely everywhere 😂
There was a line when we arrived, but it moved quickly. I didn’t realize until after but they’ve got 2 locations across the street from each other, one with more sweet treat and the other with more savoury.

To die for oh my GOD - Edit
I had quite possibly the best meal of my life here, if a pastry counts as a meal. I was sooo blown away by this place - so chic and stylish and not in your face about being vegan. My non vegan (and skeptical) mother was also absolutely blown away. Have my funeral here!!

Some of the best pastries I’ve ever tried, the coffee was great too. Only fault is it’s quite small and gets super busy, there was a long queue down the street when I came

Less good than before, but still nice - Edit
This used to be my favourite bakery in Amsterdam, but it has become less good and too busy. They have a toilet and a small seating area, but it’s become even smaller due to the removal of seatings around the central table.
Read moreTheir cruffins have a rich filling and sugary coating. I tried the ones with pistachio, raspberry and blueberry: all of them were good. However, Zola’s Bakery in the UK has even better cruffins.
The bostocks with pear/hazelnut and apple, almond croissant and pastry with pistachio custard were also tasty. However, I liked the raspberry/pistachio/almond bostock less. This was also the case with their double-baked pecan/maple croissant.
Items I didn’t like were blueberry cake (too firm, too sweet and slightly bitter) and matcha cookie (bland).

Really good coffee, lots of delicious looking pastries (apple turnover is yummy) but a very popular place with not much seating. I think there are multiple in the same area though and some are bigger.

Just pure heaven. I had the pistachio cruffin. I ate it by myself with an oat latte on a bench by the canal and it was a transcendental experience.

A must stop in Amsterdam - Edit
The hype is 100% deserved. The line out the door was a good sign. Some of the best pastries we’ve ever had, vegan or not. My favorite of the four kinds we tried was the croissant with chocolate and hazelnut. Amazingly flaky, and wonderful flavor and texture. Near religious experience. So good. And great coffee to go with it. Do not leave the city without giving SJ a try.

Do not miss this if you're in AMS!!! - Edit
Easily some of the best pastries of my life. My fiance said the pistachio cruffin was the best pastry he's ever had (although be slightly warned, they do not skimp on the pistachio filling and it is a very rich pistachio butter, although incredibly delicious). The other cruffin we got was their seasonal salted caramel & caramelized macadamia cruffin and the filling was *chef's kiss*. Not to mention the cruffin exterior itself was wonderful.
Read moreMy other favorite was the orange hazelnut danish - I didn't think I would like it because I don't like orange/chocolate combos but the orange flavor was very light and the filling was very hazelnutty and the pastry was so crispy and ugh, I wish I lived next to this bakery.
The other two items we got, the brioches, were fine, but definitely not as good as the cruffins & the other danish.
Pros: Amazing pastries, Unique combinations
Cons: Long lines, Not much seating
