Nice Vegan Spot in Newport - Edit
Root is a nice vegan spot in Newport with a simple, comfortable setup and a straightforward menu. Nothing fancy, but it feels welcoming and easy to order from.
Read moreI had the BBQ jackfruit sandwich, and it was really good. The flavor was smoky and slightly sweet, and the texture worked surprisingly well. My partner tried the Arriva grain bowl, which was fresh and layered with flavor without being heavy. Both dishes tasted well thought out and clearly made with care.
The menu has a good mix of bowls, sandwiches, smoothies, and baked items, so it’s easy to find something whether you’re fully plant-based or just looking for a healthier option. Prices seemed reasonable for the quality and portion sizes.
Service was friendly, and things came out at a steady pace. Overall, Root feels like a solid place to go for a good vegan meal in town. I’d definitely come back for the food, especially that jackfruit sandwich.

All vegan deliciousness! - Edit
I sat outside on this crisp fall day and enjoyed the BLT with added avocado and violife cheese. I also got a chocolate chip cookie. Yum!

Want to come back and try more of the menu - Edit
I got the acai bowl which was okay, and my non-vegan mom got the banana almond joy toast, which she liked. I think I would give this place 5 stars if I tried one of the sandwiches; they look really good!

Fresh and filling - Edit
I was so hungry because I had skipped breakfast on my east coast road trip.
Read moreAfter touring the Breakers I needed some sustenance and I found this place on happy cow.
A salad and smoothie sounded like just the thing to fill me up with something fresher than fast food.
I decided to get the East Grain Bowl and my brother got the chickpea salad sandwich. Both were large and filling. The ingredients were so fresh and tasted amazing. I love kimchi and eggplant. The east bowl had both and was a perfect mix of flavors I crave. I need more fresh greens in my life.
The bowls are perfect for a summer day because they are light and filling. It isn't like shoving an impossible burger into your face and feeling all that grease sit in your stomach. This feels like good fuel for my body and I wish I could find a place like this everywhere I travel.
I highly recommend this place for breakfast, lunch, and anything in between.
Next time I'm in this area I will come here again.
Pros: Lots of options, Parking right outside of the restaurant, Fresh food
Cons: Not open for dinner

A delight - Edit
Located on a cute historic Main Street in downtown Newport. Space and small, clean, and cozy. Menu has lots to offer but not too much. We enjoyed the food immensely and it was fresh and not heavy feeling. Chickpea salad…yum. Ciao Bella sandwich…delish. Ricotta berry toast…delightful. Prices are fair for the portion size. Love that they feature local plant based cheese company in a bunch of stuff (Barrett’s Farm).

Awesome!! - Edit
Great vegan options, delicious food.
Read morePaul the owner chatted with us for a few minutes really making the experience wonderful for us.
We had breakfast (2 oatmeal bowls) and a green juice/ no apple subbed extra celery, which kept us full until we came back for lunch 5 hours later.
The “glow” bowl was delicious- next time I’ll ask for another shot of dressing, and my husband loved his egg English muffin sandwich and spinach salad.
Love this place!!!

A very pleasant, cheery place! I ate here three times in two days and there are still things I want to go back to try. Their menu seems to have something for every mood…unique items (ricotta berry toast, I’m thinking about you 😍), classics, healthy dishes, cheesy dishes, funfetti sugar cookies…

What an absolutely delicious all vegan haven! I had the chickpea salad sandwich and the multigrain bread was warm and crisped. The chickpea salad was seasoned perfectly and was probably the best I’ve had. Service was friendly and prompt. Cute vibe inside. I also got two cookies which were yummo!

1st time here. Street parking available where you can find it. Indoor seating available. Counter service. Fairly small menu but when done right, you don’t need many options. Super friendly and grateful service - they said thank you for choosing us many times. I had their avocado toast which was nice and crispy. I also had their breakfast sandwich with coving bacon and tomato. It was delicious. Would definitely come back

Good find - Edit
The staff and owner are super nice and always happy to welcome you. It's one of the few places with an entirely plant-based menu in a prime location. The food is tasty. We like the bowls and breakfast sandwich. Its toasty inside seating and also some outdoor tables.

Pleasant all-vegan cafe - Edit
We stopped in here several times over the course of our stay here when staying at a nearby hotel with no vegan breakfast options.
Read moreKnockout items included the matcha lavender latte and the basil-and-blackberry fauxcotta breakfast toast. I was also happy with the ciao bella, which includes a form of vegan mozz I haven't seen before ("Barrett's Garden..."). A tapioca-and-cashew based cheese that's not especially funky or fermented tasting, and more resembles a grainy cousin to silken tofu. I would say the red onions are cut unpleasantly chunky and (I think) not watered / de-sulfured as I'd do at home.
The frozen cocoa bowl was a bit like eating a giant bowl of baby food, in a good way (mostly). The breakfast sandwich was a pretty no-frills item I would probably not order if I had a kitchen of my own here.
The lack of bathroom ("no public restroom" means NO RESTROOM in this area!) almost did me dirty!!! Plan ahead!

Pros: ricotta toast, matcha lavender latte, friendly & clean
Cons: chunky red onions, no bathroom, mostly a pretty expected menu
