Cool bar and restaurant, Avoid the ski shop.

Cool bar and restaurant. Beautiful building and outdoor location. Can get super busy during peak times (music, weekends, Truckee Thursdays). Personally I'm not a fan of the "push to the front of the bar to order" type situation and would just as soon pass, but I was there with some friends who took care of that. I appreciate that they have both an impossible burger and a tofu sandwich, for both kinds of veggie palates. Food came out surprisingly quickly considering it was a standing-room-only Truckee Thursday. My tofu banh mi was good, but nothing super special. Glad to have a tofu sandwich for sure though! Tasty cocktails as well. I did have to wait forever to get my card and close my tab, as the bartenders took orders from the Beautiful People and did shots with their friends... typical for Tahoe, haha.

As for the skis, well, I wouldn't be caught dead in a pair. The brand is "Rocky Mountain Underground" but the skis aren't manufactured in the Rockies... or even on this continent. It's just a fake "underground" brand that outsources their manufacturing and slaps their logo on a product made on the other side of the world. Real local ski companies like Praxis, Slant and Moment all actually manufacture their own skis right here in Tahoe, employing LOCALS to make skis, not just sling drinks.

Star rating based on the bar/restaurant review, the second paragraph is just me editorializing. ;)

While you're entitled to your opinion, it's a bummer that you didn't get all the facts before leaving this review.
Maybe next time ask about the back story before bashing a brand. I took the time to ask the back story and thought I'd pass along what I learned😄
The company is Rocky Mountain Underground because it started in Breckenridge Colorado. 3 friends got their hands on a ski press, and decided to try making some skis in their basement. They started from nothing. As they began figuring out how to make halfway decent skis, they began trading them around the community for beer (typical skibum move)
They didn't plan to make it in to a company and were just having fun with what they were doing. Since they didn't have a name for the skis, their "underground" ski operation was eventually nicknamed Rocky Mountain Underground by the locals.
As they grew their knowledge and expanded the brand, the kept the name. They have since expanded and have 3 locations in total (Truckee being the newest one). They don't claim to be a local Truckee Company, as their roots are in Colorado. (Congrats to them on the success and being able to expand)

The reason the skis are NOW made in a difference country is because the company has grown so much that they needed a real factory. They started working in Denver at the Neversummer facility, but that factory didn't work out. Eventually they landed on the current factory in Sweden. The original ski press still remains in Breckenridge where the company continues to create their models/prototypes, to then have them produced in the factory. The main reason the factory factory in Sweden was chosen, is because it is a carbon neutral facility. RMU believes in giving back to the mountains. As a company, they have a pledge to be carbon neutral by 2025 and are constantly making strides to achieve that goal.

It's actually a really cool company/ Ski brand and the skis are great!
