Some options - Edit
Have to ask the wait staff for the vegetarian menu that lists the vegan options. I got the Mayan Salad (VERY GOOD) and the black bean burrito bowl.

They lied about vegan options! Remove this listing from HC! - Edit
The menu online has several vegan options, even tamales! I was excited to try this place. Unfortunately when I had researched this place it was just before the couple of ratings before mine that said it had no viable vegan options. I probably would not have gone here had I read that.
Read moreWhen we got there the menu was much smaller than online. I asked about vegan options and she said that there is a symbol on the menu indicating they can make that item vegan. I got the bean and rice burrito. It came out and was literally a tortilla with black beans in it with a side of black beans. Apparently the rice is not vegan like the menu implies. My burrito had just a tiny amount of sauce and corn salsa on top. Extremely bland. I'm pretty sure they just opened up a can of beans. I also got the street corn made vegan. It was just corn LOL.
All in all this place was incredibly disappointing and I would definitely not return. Red Mesa Grill should be removed from HappyCow.
Pros: None
Cons: Not really any vegan options

Seems they changed their menu because there was no vegan menu and only a couple of entrees that could be made vegan. We bailed.

I got the vegan fajitas and my husband got the enchiladas. Both were made with mushrooms, and were very good. I was surprised some of the other menu options couldn’t be made vegan.

This place had very delicious food! The place is very pretty, the staff is nice, and the vegan options are marked on the menu! Also, if you have kids they have a great menu item called the pizzadia which is what is sounds like! My little brother loved it!

Great tasting salsa and tons of tequila options! The fajitas were great! Stay away from the refried beans, which have lard in them. I got the black beans instead. Quick service.

This place has a separate menu for vegetarian and vegan options And had lots of options for our omnivorous family. We had vegan wild mushroom enchiladas and mushroom fajitas. Both were pretty good. We ordered as takeout and it worked well.

Great place - Edit
Red Mesa is cozy ans welcoming. Great place for adults and families. They have an extensive drink and food menu with small offerings for celiacs, vegan and vegetarians. Although the menu is mainly for omnivores.
Read moreAs a vegan who also has to be gluten free it is SO nice to have a restaurant that not only respects my food choices/special needs but also has menus already in place to accommodate those choices and needs!
Red Mesa is our regular stop when we are in TC (at least once a month). They are great with their menu and the food always tastes good.
Pros: knowledgeable about ingredients, protocol for vegan, celiac, vegetarian, fair pricing
Cons: limited vegan and gluten free options

Special Vegetarian & Vegan Menu - Edit
It is so nice to see a restaurant take the initiative and offer up a special Vegetarian & Vegan menu. Staff is always very friendly. Also check out their sister restaurant in Elk Rapids, Pearls.

Not bad - Edit
I got the wild mushroom enchiladas. It was decent. About what you'd expect of Mexican food in northern Michigan. I've lived in Texas for 20 years so I'm sure my view is schewed. Fun place and great service. It was a Saturday night during the busy season.

Vegan Menu - Edit
I agree that it's nice to have a separate vegan menu. However, the options are few.
Read moreI had the black bean taco. Not a taco, more like beans on a tortilla. Also not a value. My wife had the enchilada from regular menu. For $1. more got twice the plate.
I am a "new vegan" still evaluating this way of eating. I think I will make some exceptions in this restaurant in the future. Like a fish taco and/or a cheese addition to a bean burrito.
By the way Red Mesa is Southwestern as opposed to Mexican. For excellent Mexican go across town to Spanglish. I have yet to try any of the veggie options but I'll bet they will be great. Might be my next review.
Pros: varied general menu, ambience, wait staff
Cons: black bean taco

not what you'd expect... - Edit
The best thing about this place is the wide variety of hot sauces you can try. However, for Mexican food, it is only mediocre at best... So much potential and great location plus disappointing food equals 2 stars- and we've eaten here on several occasions.

Vegetable Farro Burrito - Edit
You have to specifically ask for a veg/vegan menu, but it's also specifically states on the regular menu. TONS of options for vegans! If I lived in the area, this would be a frequently attended restaurant.

Several veggie options - Edit
They have a separate vegetarian / vegan menu. Although we could not determine if the cheeses have rennet, the wait staff was very helpful and accommodating; they brought us all the packages so we could see for ourselves (just "enzymes" were listed). We enjoyed two tasty vegan dishes. The tortilla chips were made in house and fried in a separate fryer from non-veg items. The house-made salsa was also really tasty.

Great food with plenty of veg options. - Edit
First time at Red Mesa was great even with it being a busy holiday weekend. Food was delivered hot, and we'll before we expected it considering how busy the restaurant was. Had the pineapple quesadilla as an appetizer, then the vegetable quinoa burrito. Excellent flavors! Wife enjoyed the fajitas, which was way more than either of us could eat. Price was in line with what we usually spend on a date night. Will be back when in the area.

Great for plant based eaters - Edit
This restaurant was such a great surprise! I had the streamed vegetable burrito, my husband had the Quinoa burrito and my son had a black bean taco. Everything was fresh and delicious. I so appreciated a restaurant with an actual vegan menu. And the best part was how healthy everything was. If one of your reasons for eating a vegan diet is to improve your health, this restaurant is a great option.

Very Vegan Friendly - Edit
How often do you find a separate menu for vegetarians and vegans? This is one of the few. Additionally, they source many of their ingredients locally, make their own tortilla chips and even make their own sour mix (huge selection of tequila). All of this makes for a delicious meal in a very family friendly environment. My wife and I tried the black bean enchiladas and the mushroom enchiladas - both were very good. The corn tortillas were perfect and we both appreciated the fresh side of steamed veggies that accompanied the enchiladas. And finally, the house (i.e. casa) margarita was very good and the cherry margarita was exceptional. A great restaurant for any palate but a wonderful restaurant for vegans. Enjoy!

Cons: guacamole is not vegan, not spicy
