A healthy delight - Edit
I love everything about Ravens! Stayed at the Stanford Inn and ate here daily whether it was breakfast or dinner. Happy hour was also wonderful. Excellent selection of wines, very fresh and flavorful meals and enjoyed a fresh pot of tea every morning. Beautifully decorated for the holidays - a very cozy and peaceful experience.

Beautiful setting, food, and serving - Edit
Classic otel dining with peaceful view of trees. Went for brunch and ordered the waffle and the portobello Benedict. Both very good and felt indulgent without being heavy or unhealthy. Good service.

All Vegan in Mendocino - Edit
I had great expectations for Ravens when I went here on a recent trip to Mendocino. The food here was average albeit all vegan. We got a Thai curry that was decent yet felt Thai Idea in SF does a better curry. We got the enchiladas that were good yet wish their hot sauce was made in house.
Read moreThe vegan carrot cake with vegan ice cream for dessert was probably the best thing we ordered and was tasty.
I have a feeling the chef that was here is no longer here yet must say the service was great.
I am giving it five stars because it was very cozy here with the wood burning fire place, resident cat, resident dog, and extensive vegan library.
Pros: very cozy, great service

Quality is high and portions are large - Edit
Prices may seem high but they are comparable to other area restaurants and the portions are quite large. We could have split dishes but wanted to try as many as possible. I definitely had my favorites but they were all good options. I really liked that the dining was casual yet attentive service. We could come dressed up or casual and feel comfortable in this beautiful space with gorgeous views. If you are staying at the Inn, take advantage of the free breakfast each morning. Reservations are recommended.

Consistent Destination Vegan Restaurant - Edit
Ravens is a fantastic restaurant -- everything is vegan, organic and much of the food is local. After going here for dinners over the past 10 years, I finally made it here for breakfast and it was AMAZING and delicious. I have always enjoyed my experiences here -- the staff are warm and welcoming, attentive and efficient. It never feels rushed -- and there are always cute, well behaved dogs to meet (and the beautiful BC, the resident Black Cat).

This was one of the nicest places we have eaten on our travels. Great food, all plant based. We brought our dog and they brought him a blanket to lay on, and treats. We will be eating here every time we are in the area.

I saw some bad reviews but we loved the food, breakfast in particular is great! We had the waffle and the portabella benedict. For dinner I’d recommend the kale stack and the enchiladas were delicious.

Good and Bad - Edit
The location and view from Ravens' Restaurant is fantastic. Morning or evening, the view over the trees toward the ocean is fantastic. It would be hard pressed for any restaurant to match. But with that ambiance comes high prices which in turn bring high expectations. And unfortunately this is where Ravens' falls short. My wife and I had breakfast there during our stay at the Stanford Inn. And that service was friendly but a little too casual for the fine dining aura they try to project. This projection fell well short the one night we had dinner during our stay. We ordered appetizes, salad, and drinks. The prices are high but the food tasted good. What turned our stay south was that our server was slow in checking on us and taking our entree orders, and then they informed us that the entree we wanted was sold out (sea palm strudel). This is information that needs to be communicated quickly to the table. The Ravens' does have potential to be an excellent fine dining option, but better care must be taken with its server training program so guests actually feel like they are in a fine dining experience.

Room for improvement - Edit
I couldn’t believe what I had found! A vegan and sustainability driven restaurant AND inn. With there being little to no other vegan friendly spots, at least in Fort Bragg where I’m camping, I just had to make the 20 minute drive and it was well worth it.
Read moreThe estate, the garden, the ambiance of the dining room at sunset, the service, the cocktails… So amazing. My sushi starter was delicious, however, my entree was way overpriced for the quality. The oyster mushrooms were dry and chewy with no flavor and the polenta had an earthiness that needed something to balance its profile better. The Brussels sprouts that come with that dish were also very dry and undercooked.
This does not deter me from coming back. It is very important to me to support vegan restaurants, ESPECIALLY where they are sustainably driven. I even got a carrot cake on the house for my birthday which was delicious!
With so many delicious options on the menu, it was really hard to pick just one starter and one entree. So I’ll be back again next year for my birthday and I look forward to diving into something new. Cheers!

Pros: Friendly, helpful staff, Talented bartender made a solid margarita , The garden and ocean view is dynamite

Delicious food. Lovely atmosphere, complete with sunset view. - Edit
We were greeted with a cucumber salad bite as we sat down. It just got better from there. My companion and I ordered salad and two entrees to share. The server split them in half without us asking and both halves were beautiful. Desert was delicious. Chocolate ganache and strawberry shortcake. Aaahhhhhh.

So disappointing - Edit
I have been to Raven’s several times over the years, but had never stayed at Stanford Inn. I finally stayed there and was so disappointed in the food. It used to be wonderful, but everything we had was mediocre at best. The waffle tasted like cardboard and the roasted Brussel Sprouts were barely cooked.

Nice experience, but meh food - Edit
We got reservations on a Wednesday night for us and our dog and after several flights of stairs (don't park in the first parking lot - go up the hill to the lobby) we were greeted and seated immediately in the bar room. The staff felt at times a little slow for how empty the place was, but were super nice and helpful and very sweet to our dog.
Read moreThe menu had a lot of mushrooms on it and, since neither I or my partner enjoy them, we ordered a few different things for sharing to try to eat around them. We got the Cesar salad, maple glazed tofu, rustic flatbread, and then an entree which featured mushrooms, but came with sides of creamy polenta and Brussels sprouts.
Honestly the only thing I really enjoyed was the tofu. The glaze was delicious and the tofu itself was cooked well. I also kind of liked the salad, but it was a little odd and heavily mustard flavored for a "Cesar" salad.
My partner liked the flatbread which was topped with a variety of roasted vegetables but was quite bland to me.
The $30 entree was pretty inedible to us. I'm someone who loves polenta and loves Brussels sprouts, but they weren't even really passable.
We got that boxed up along with three of the four dessert options to go, and then ate the banana split they offered with two spoons. I enjoyed the split except for the scoop of oddly tasting vanilla ice cream.
We tried the other three desserts about an hour later and enjoyed both the carrot cake and strawberry shortcake immensely, but we were quite disappointed with the mint chocolate ganache cake.
Overall I enjoyed my experience but it was quite expensive for actively disliking the entirety of the main entree.
Will visit again for breakfast.
Pros: All vegan, Great staff, Dog friendly
Cons: Food is kinda meh, Expensive

Outstanding dining - Edit
I enjoyed every meal of our dinners at Ravens. The food is creative, delicious, and attractively presented. Most nights my daughter and I each got a small plate, followed by a large plate. One night we even indulged in dessert. The food is rich in vegetables and many other healthy ingredients, and is low oil and not fried.
Read moreOur favorite small plate was the kale stack, and favorite large plate was the sea palm. As we roamed nearby parks, we were quite attuned to all the sea palms growing on rocks near shore. Ravens sources their sea palm locally, so we might have been looking at someone's future dinner.
The portions are generous, and every night we took enough food back to our room for lunch the next day.
Expect wonderful healthy food which respects its ingredients - this is not the place to get a meat substitute or anything fried (which is a good thing in my experience)
Pros: Attentive service , Sweeping views, Creative organic food
Cons: Expect prices to reflect fine dining experience

Not a Raven Review - Edit
We had a gift certificate that included a three-course dinner. I chose a Caesar salad as a starter. I liked the dressing, but there was a little too much for me. None of the large plates really appealed to me, but I chose the Kalua Mushrooms & Coconut Rice. It was fairly bland besides the pineapple, and there was too much rice compared to the other ingredients. I hate wasting food, but it was a big portion, and I didn't particularly like the dish, so I didn't finish it. I chose the Mint Chocolate Ganache Tart for dessert. There was some kind of berry sauce on the plate (which was not listed on the menu) that I didn't like as an added flavor. I did not like the tart, but it was not inherently bad. Admittedly, I like simple food and "comfort food," so maybe I just don't have a "refined palate," but this gourmet food did not impress me. Also, though I enjoy food, I like eating quickly and have no interest in just hanging out at a restaurant, so this hour-and-a-half dinner was way too long for me.

Expected so much more… - Edit
Transposing my review here, as there are 2 listings for this place. I’ve been to Ravens before and I know how delicious this food used to be. This time was an utter disappointment. Overcooked rice in the risotto while somehow the alcohol from the wine not cooked out; gritty polenta that was strangely sweet; turmeric overload in the tofu scramble, which is the same as the “seasoned tofu” AND the same as the filling for the crepe…what happened? I wanted it to be so much better…won’t be coming back unless there’s a drastic change in the kitchen.

This used to be a wonderful dining experience - Edit
Maybe it was an off day, maybe it was just us, but we’ve been coming here once a year or so for many years. Today it lacked the usual excellence and our main courses we honestly struggled to eat. If you like mushrooms and walnuts then you might like it better than we did, most of the main courses were mushroom or walnut based if not both. I just wanted something simple, fresh and healthy, except the beet salad, our food tasted like it had been made a few days ago.

Cons: Lacks variety - walnuts and mushrooms in all, No good choices for diabetics/low carb diet., Didn’t taste good.

Unexpected! - Edit
Was looking for some good veggie grub in Mendocino and found Ravens - an all vegan restaurant tucked away in a hotel. The food was really good, creative and locally sourced. There is also a "bookstore" there with titles on food, environment, education, spirituality. Clearly a labor of love for the owners. Go visit them!

We stayed at the Stanford Inn and ate a few breakfasts and dinners here.
Read moreThe breakfast menu is mostly savory, the standout was the portobello benedict. The sweet breakfast options are waffles and pancakes, both very good.
For dinner, the standouts were the maple-tamari tofu appetizer, the sea-palm strudel, and the chocolate ganache for dessert.
The sea-palm strudel is a really creative dish that's more like sushi than strudel, with wasabi and plum dipping sauces. It was fun to eat sea-palm after seeing them all over the rocks along the coast.
Pros: sea palm!, rich chocolate ganache tart, dining in or room service
Cons: pricey
