It can be difficult to find vegan options in Anchorage. Preference is a game changer. My favorite is the chicken BBQ ranch. It’s made with seitan. The ranch and BBQ sauces are made on site. It is my new favorite place to eat!

Came in excited to eat here but only one gal working and she was not very welcoming. Said to use the kiosk to order and pay, so we did. The big menu on the wall is not accurate she mentioned, while we were scanning it. The little 8.5x11 pieces taped to the plastic counter guard is the correct menu. Much fewer items than the big outdated one. Got the Reuben and the Cajun Chikn sandwich with animal fries. Meh on the Cajun and fries but the Reuben was actually pretty good even though they were out of the rye bread. The chikn texture was a bit tough and rubbery like it was overcooked, sadly. I felt bad for the gal because she was by herself preparing everything. The table we sat as was unclean, probably because she had no time to do it. She sang and gossiped with another gal in the back which was overly loud as was the bad music but she kept her spirits up and warmed up to us after a while. Turned out to be very nice. Super cool to have an all vegan eatery in Anchorage. Not sure I’d go again though.

Great vegan Chicken - Edit
The Chicken burger was great! The chef said, he made the patty himself with saitan tofu. It definitely tasted homemade and really good. Since this is the only vegan location in Anchorage (June 2024) you should definitely come here!

Unclean & Non-Responsive Staff - Edit
Average food. Very little customer service from the staff. They also had a dog back in the kitchen area. That can't be up to health code, not to mention one of the cooks wearing a sleeveless shirt. Also the tables and floor were filthy from previous patrons. No real clean up between guests.

Sooooo good! Some of the best food in Alaska - Edit
I love the food here! It’s feel good comfort food and all vegan. It’s not easy finding a ton of vegan food in Anchorage, so this place is a treat. I’ve had the portobello gyro, burger, onion rings with vegan ranch, grilled cheese, and salad and everything was soo soo good. Great customer service as well!

Good spot to try - Edit
I love having a fully vegan restaurant close by. I got the Philly and Animal Fries. The food was OKAY, nothing great; needs more flavor. The owner was a big help with explaining the menu. I would recommend and plan to eat here again.

The dish I ordered was ok - Edit
I got take-out here in December 2021. I ordered the Beyond Meatball Sandwich, and it was just okay. It was underwhelming. Something with the texture and just how it tasted. It didn't hit like I thought it would hit. When visiting again, I will try other items because other reviews look amazing!

Fantastic in Every Way - Edit
I don’t live in Anchorage, but try to stop by Preference when I’m in town. Everything about this place is amazing. The Reuben Sandwich is so good that it’s hard for me to try anything new. The owner Dan is so incredibly nice and enthusiastic about what he is making. He wasn’t only nice to me, I saw him interacting with other customers and treating everyone like a valued member of the community. Alaska is lucky to have Preference.

Great but skip wyngs - Edit
Philly's were great, animal fries as well, but we didn't like wyngs, neither texture (doesn't resemble chicken) nor taste (bbq - too acidic, dry - tasteless).

Great Vegan Joint - Edit
We were visiting Anchorage, and went to this place several times because the food was awesome and the owner and staff were so sweet. Although everything was good, my favorites were the animal fries (I added grilled mushrooms to mine) and the double cheeseburger. Mouthwateringly delicious.

Incredible Vegan American Diner Food.

Easily the best burger I've had anywhere. Sheer hedonic enjoyment for the appetitive vegan. My burger was like a gift from the grill gods. I usually balk at beyond meat, but it didn't matter the patty could have been cardboard; the fixings were stupendous. The homemade organic ranch dressing, the panko crusted jalapeno, the lettuce, tomato, onions. Simply, the best drive-in style Americana turned vegan short order, quick serve meal in the Americas. Went for a side of fries with buffalo chicken and ranch too which boosted the flavor to the moon. I can't find the words to express how satisfying this meal was.
This may seem like it's junk food, but it's not. It's pure gold.
Special thanks to friendly, dedicated vegan owner who operates the PETA awarded compassionate business and performs daily activism with this solid evidence that any food can be vegan. I suspect I am soon to succumb to the irresistible urge to eat here every day, three or maybe four times a day.
Reasonable prices, cholula hot sauce, and a safe, warm dining room.
Pros: vegan owned and operated, insanely delicious, friendly service

Just Wow! - Edit
I’d heard about the vegan food wagon that became a restaurant - it took me a while to track it down because I didn’t know the name. I finally found it on Boniface Road right before the Glenn Highway on-ramp. It’s sort of like vegan deli nirvana - it has all the sandwiches you might find there, but totally vegan! I had the gyro with onion rings & my husband had a sub with French fries. It was so great to have a gyro again - oddly it was one of the few non-vegan foods I missed! Both the sandwiches tasted very much like I remember as a non-vegan, but most importantly, it tastes great now. The onion rings were handmade fresh and very tasty.
Read moreI live in Mat-Su valley and don’t get to Anchorage very much. Preference is situated a block away from the off-on ramp for the Glenn Hwy. so it couldn’t be more handy for commuters from the valley. The owner said he did this on purpose so people from the valley could easily stop in on their way to and from home. It’s in the Papa John’s building.

Awesome menu, amazing taste, fantastic owner. Gf is vegan and I’m not but this place slaps. Everything they have is awesome. If you’re looking for Whole Foods TM style or just plain vegetables and fruits this isn’t for you. This is a food truck style vegan joint that aims at making delicious comfort foods and they knock it out of the park every time! Would give more stars if I was allowed.

Vegan on East Side - Edit
I was pleased, after being away for a bit, that this restaurant opened locally on this side of town. They have a lot of "comfort foods" that one would associate with eating animal products so it is geared toward that population as well as the vegan. Great staff, plenty of seating, and food that might fulfill the cravings you are having. I'd recommend it to carnivores and vegans alike.
