If you're looking for more interesting vegan sushi than your typical avocado or cucumber one you won't be disappointed at this place. The options are really creative and very tasty. The vegan tuna is outstanding!

I honestly don’t wven know where to start. Sushi and gyozas are so good you don’t need soya sauce! Every single piece looks like a work of art. Be ready to be there at least an hour since everything is handmade on the spot. The waitress is super nice and friendly and explains every sushi roll and how they make it (and when you see how colorfull they are, you will be curious). You can also watch the chef make food since its an open kitchen. My boyfriend and I ate chefs special for 2, 6 gyozas and chocolate mousse dessert. Everything was fantastic. This was an amazing experience that we will be talking about for ages, every time sushi is mentioned in a conversation. The price is well justified for the amount and quality of food you’re getting. Make sure you come at least an hour/ hour and a half before closing so they have time to prepare your food since its only two people working. I will be definitely coming here again next time I’m in Amsterdam.

It’s a bit confusing, but there are 3 vegan sushi restaurants in Amsterdam. Two of them are called “Vegan Sushi Bar” and owned by the same company. And then there is “Plant Based Sushi”. The latter is a whole different ball game!
Read moreThe “Vegan Sushi Bar” opts for the “pleasure trap”. That means: they use plenty of salt, fat and sugar to make things taste good and make you want more. And let there be no mistake: they make wonderful food for the general public.
“Plant Based Sushi” is much more refined. They avoid salt, fat and sugar whenever possible. They create little works of art that look good and taste even better. We tried the chef’s special, which is a big plate with many different kinds of sushi. When served, it almost looks too good to eat. When you do eat, an adventure of taste awaits!
Each piece of sushi has a different taste, structure and “theme”. There’s spicy, sweet, salty and of course Japanese umame. There’s regular white, but also pink and even blue rice! The blend of ingredients is creative for surprising new flavors. The balance is perfect, so that one ingredient never dominates the taste. This can only be the work of a genius!
Luckily, the genius (a real Japanese chef) can be seen at work from the restaurants because “Plant Based Sushi” has an open kitchen and the chef works right in front of the guests. His skill and dedicated / concentrated look when preparing is fascinating to look at!
Pros: creative, beautiful, healthy and super tasty food, fair prices, nice atmosphere
Cons: less variety on the menu (e.g. no miso soup), very difficult to park / reach by car, deposit required when making reservations

I can just recommend to visit this place. We had the chefs special for two (50€) and it was so so delicious. The sushi combinations are so creative and special. It’s not cheap for students like us but it was 100% worth it! 💪🏽💚

Read moreWe started our evening with their spin on a Moscow mule (yes!) and warm sake (that lasted throughout the evening - very generous portion) along with some appetizers: the karaage, the mini kroket and the gyoza platter. Except for the kroket, would recommend you get all the appetizers (!).
Next we ordered the chef's sushi special for 2 - out of the selection our favorites we recommend to order are: the pompadour pink, gothic garlic, and the gunkan king. Not so big a fan of the other flavors but you do get one hell of a tasty soup with the chef's special. We overheard the table next to us that they do accommodate this one to uneven groups which is a plus (!)
We ended with some jasmin tea (myself), an americano (for the husband) and the pumpkin dessert. The ice cream scoop on the plate was to die for, the cake itself not so much. Would recommend getting only ice cream for dessert ;)
Menu changes seasonally so it might not be the same when you visit (we ate here on 10 Nov 21), how exiting! I'm definitely looking forward to their next creations !

The sushi was excellent. Gyoza was also very good. The icecream also tasted great. A bit on the pricier side but totally worth the experience. The fact that you can choose different amount of pieces for every type of roll also makes it easier to try all the rolls and have a filling meal at the same time.

Read moreLuckily, we came across Plant Based Sushi during our research. The restaurant is small and cozy, the staff is super friendly and the food is absolutely delicious. Here you don't get your usual standard vegan sushi rolls. We had the Chef's Special and everything we got was presented beautifully, tasted great and had a unique twist. As a side dish, we recommend Kaarage - breaded tofu that is not deep fried in fat as is common in vegan restaurants, but air fried and absolutely delicious.
If you are plant based, love sushi and are in Amsterdam, you have to visit Plant Based Sushi!
We will definitely be back on our next visit to Amsterdam!
