Poor Service and Dietary Mistake Overshadow the Experience

I’ve visited this café three times in the past week, and until today I would have focused on the food. Unfortunately, today’s experience completely overshadowed it.

From the moment we walked in, the person at the counter spoke in a curt and aggressive tone. Each time I’ve visited, I’ve ordered the same thing: a gluten-free vegan toastee. Today, I was served a vegan toast on regular (not gluten-free) bread. I only realized after I had already eaten half of it.

When I went back to clarify, I was told—quite bluntly—that it wasn’t gluten-free and that I hadn’t asked for it. I explained that I’ve been ordering the same item for the past three days, but the interaction quickly escalated. The staff member became increasingly loud, to the point where the entire café could hear the exchange.

I ended up leaving feeling upset, with my dietary needs compromised. It’s frustrating, because if there had been a bit more care and attentiveness, this could have been avoided entirely.

I also can’t ignore how uncomfortable the situation felt—I was the only brown person in the café, and I couldn’t help but wonder whether that played a role in how I was treated.

Based on this experience, I would not recommend this place. Regardless of the food, the way customers are treated matters just as much.

Super cute!!

A really lovely cafe with loads of great outdoor seating so perfect in the summer months. The vegan breakfast is tasty and there's a few vegan options on the vietnamese lunch menu too which sound delicious. The cakes are amazing and have allergens labelled, the vegan strawberry and coconut cake was one of the best cakes I've tried!! 😍
