So good - Edit
Everything on the menu sounded good so we ordered the Philly vegan sampler and egg roll sampler. We also had the PBB milkshake and it was delicious.

Good food and people - Edit
Had the philly with wedges and a PB shake. Wedges and the shake were absolute top notch - sooo good. Philly filling was stellar, all together with the bread it was decent. Super nice people and vibes. No seating, but some outdoor seating you can snag next door if available.

Too Greasy and Salty - Edit
Too greasy and salty for our taste. We got the sampler plate and did not eat the Philly sandwich- only the fries smothered under the plant based steak/cheese. I did pick out and eat the onions and bell peppers though. We also did not like the eggroll that did not have any recognizable vegetables in them. We should have known what we were getting, but I like fresh vegetables far too much to recommend this place, or return.

Comfort vegan food - Edit
We had the sampler split between the two of us, plenty of food. As seniors we tend to share nowadays.
Read moreLoaded fries were creamy and very tasty, the Philly sandwich was also tasty, but the hot dog bun was too much bread.
The egg roll was excellent, slightly crispy on outside, yet very good
When we are back in Richmond and want comfort food we will definitely be returning here
Pros: Comfort food , Friendly , Plenty of food
Cons: Too much bread

Overpriced food that is mid - Edit
Welcoming atmosphere, food is lovingly prepared, however the quality of the food is consistently underwhelming. It’s bland, basic, and nothing a mildly competent vegan with a Costco’s membership couldn’t whip up in their own kitchen. For what you get, it’s extremely expensive. We just paid $75 for 3 people before tip. This is tragic for low-level takeout when there are a dozen vegan friendly options a short distance from Philly Vegan with better food at a fraction of the cost.

Best Vegan Sandwich - Edit
This is one of the best vegan sandwiches I've ever had. And it was very very big. The milkshake, Lemonade and apple egg rolls were perfect as well. Cannot wait to go back there.

Amazing - Edit
We were lured in by their vegan72 special and were not disappointed- everything was absolutely delish - the fries, onion rings, chik’n sandwich and double z burger. All amazing, my partner is not vegan and he was so impressed and delighted by all of the food. The staff were so friendly and kind when we picked up - we’ll definitely be ordering again.

Great option in Richmond - Edit
Got the chik Philly supreme, oh rings and veggie egg rolls. The Philly was huge and we were glad we got one to share. Everything was delicious and didn’t feel super heavy for being junk food.

Update: 8/24 chicken philly is the best! Not sure what’s going on here - Edit
Update 8/24 : I guess every place has off days but I tried the new chicken philly and it’s so good! But one time i ordered and there wasn’t much chicken and the next time it seems like double the size 🤷🏻♀️ sadly inconsistent but oh well the chicken philly is where it’s at
Read moreThe first few times I tried this place, I really liked it. Over the years though, it seems to get worse. I usually get the philly with everything. It comes with some kind of fake meat- not sure what kind- mushrooms, peppers, onions, and cheese sauce. They usually put some seasoning on top but I get it without that bc I watch my sodium intake. I like how you can get the fries without seasoning too, for the sodium reason. A lot of times I eat half and save the other half for later - either later in the day or the next day. Somehow it just tastes really bad as leftovers so I would advise against that. But this time, yesterday, I tried the filling of the philly, alone , it had no cheese or mayo on it, and it just did not taste good. The fries are also not that great, I know a previous time, it seemed like the oil was old. Also, I tried the peanut butter blondie milkshake for the first time, and it had a very off taste, I didn’t have more than 2 sips. Maybe it’s the ice cream they use? Just something off.

Love this place! - Edit
We are traveling down the east coast from CT to FL and we decided to stop in Richmond, VA to try this amazing vegan spot. I’m SO glad we did. The service was friendly and fast and the food was absolutely divine. I’m gluten free so I got my lentil burger in a lettuce wrap and it was incredible. The lentil nuggets and Philly tater tots were also amazing. If we’re ever in Richmond again we will definitely be stopping here again.

First time here. Street parking found pretty easily. You can walk in and order at the counter. Dine in is not an option. Super friendly service. I was confused on what to order so I tried the Philly vegan sampler which comes with the egg roll The Philly cheesesteak fries and a small Philly cheesesteak which comes the size of a hotdog bun. Very flavorful. Nice serving size. Would definitely get it again. I also had their strawberry milkshake, which was absolutely amazing. 100% would get that one again as well.

Underwhelmed - Edit
I hate to write anything “negative” about any all vegan establishment but want to share my honest constructive feedback. I ordered what was listed as two of the most popular dishes: Philly Supreme Cheesesteak Sandwich & Cheeseburger Quesadilla
Read moreI started with the quesadilla and instantly could tell it was made with beyond meat crumbles (which I get) but personally always ideally prefer something less processed/original or homemade when ordering from a vegan restaurant. I personally have a bad past with beyond meat and therefore couldn’t get myself to finish the quesadilla /:
I was excited to try the Philly sando. It looked and smelled great but again upon my first bite it tasted the same as the quesadilla in sense of beyond meat & processed cheese. To me it tasted far over seasoned and too salty for my liking. Again, couldn’t truly eat it.
I have good feeling that other non pho meat items I would enjoy far more. I plan on giving it a second go eventually

Wow. Wow. Wow. - Edit
I'm a vegan touring musician, which can sometimes be a little bit difficult. But places like Philly Vegan make it worth it for when I find a spot that has everything I could hope for. I got the supreme cheese steak sandwich and an order of the apple pie egg rolls. Holy cow. Easily one of the best cheese steak sandwiches I've ever had.l, vegan or otherwise. And the apple pie egg rolls? Dipping them in the I closed cinnamon sugar compote created one of the best desserts I've ever had on the road. Thank you, Philly Vegan!

Unimpressive vegan fare - carry out/delivery only. - Edit
First time visiting Philly Vegan. The portions are HUGE- easily enough for two. I had the classic Philly sandwich with everything, but it didn’t seem to have any green peppers. I also tried the onion rings. Both items were edible, but under-seasoned, and the rings were a bit brown (but not burned). I was disappointed in the taste and won’t visit this restaurant again.

I do like the options yet, but probably not the best. If you have cardio concerns, somedays the food is very salty. Others are good.

Good, not great. - Edit
I've been here a few times. I live very close, and it was pretty much the only vegan take out in the whole area until recently.
Read moreThe food is good not great. I see what they are going for here with the whole vegan junk food angle. This is not that I and I vegan place where everything is alive and full of healthy enzymes and vitamins. This is that place you eat at once in a while only as an indulgence.
The philly is a huge gut bomb. It was pretty good, but I was kind of bummed at the ratio of peppers/onions/mushrooms to fake meat. I've gotten vegetarian Phillies at many other places. Some even in Philadelphia itself. And the veggies usually make up a larger ratio of the sandwich. That can be a plus though. I'm sure fake meat costs more than onions!
Their vegan burgers are pretty good. It seems like they went out of their way to pick the right ingredients to make a good sandwich with that one. The bun, condiments, burger etc are all just right.
Fries here are mixed bag. They are really good when you get a good one. But every time I go here I walk away with a container that seems almost half full with little hard pieces of almost-fries.
Also the service is exceptionally rude. They demand you inspect your order than sign a little piece of paper to prove you witnessed your order was right.
I dont know if they are getting scammed on Grubhub or something but its not my fault. If I do go back here I'm going to take apart my sandwich on the counter and take photos. Then ask them to sign off on those. That is how weird it feels.
Pros: burgers, fries
Cons: rude staff, fries, prices
