Wine bar offering daily specials with a home-cooked taste. The bar is below street level, and the walls show exhibitions of art or photography. The bar is run by women and definitely a place where women feel comfortable. If you arrive at 7pm, the day's food offering will be just being chalked onto the board. Portions are hearty. Varied and well priced! - Edit
Nelson's is a must for any vegans visiting the area. A very varied and unique vegan menu, with a great atmosphere. For the type of cuisine and dining experience, it's very well priced and the food is delicious.

Fabulous - Edit
What a gem. Situated in a basement, Nelson's Wine Bar feels 'cool' in every sense of the word. Lovely staff and great to be able to choose from an all vegan menu, with interesting, original dishes. The desserts were bliss, with nothing left of our Vegan Mess and Black Forest Choc Pot. I asked the staff where the name of the bar came from? They said it was lost in the mists of time, dating from when the bar opened 20+ years ago. I offered my theory that it might be paying homage to Nelson's Wine Bar that featured in the Archers many moons ago, run by the louche Nelson Gabriel and Kenton Archer.

Absolutely incredible - Edit
Nelsons was brilliant, everything was vegan with great labelling for allergies and lots of gluten free options. The food was so delicious! Try the Aspen fries. Super dog friendly, even had dog beds to borrow!

Amazing vegan find! - Edit
Fabulous little place with a great atmosphere and tasty food. We ordered the potato rosti, tofu burger, cashew Camembert, KFC (Kentucky fried cauliflower) and the chilli-choc pot for dessert. All of the food was amazing, albeit not much a fan of chilli in chocolate! Would definitely go again - the menu is limited, but shows that they put great effort into the food they serve.

Lovely atmosphere & delicious menu - Edit
The menu was amazing, it took me so long to decide what I wanted. It was very busy when I was there (a Saturday night!), but the staff were really lovely and apologetic for the delay. They even gave me a free glass of wine for my wait which I was not expecting.

Incredible vegan food - Edit
We tried Nelsons last night and were not disappointed. We had a whole bunch of things from the menu and would recommend the gnocchi, the cashew camembert and the tofu burger; although everything we had was delicious. The atmosphere down there is cool and the staff were friendly. Lovely place for a special vegan meal.

Delicious food and friendly service - Edit
We had a great meal, and it was good to have a lot of choice in vegan dishes across small plates (or starters), mains, and desserts. The flavours were intense but finely balanced, and a lot of thought had gone into the combinations of ingredients in each dish, down to the salad dressings.
Read moreThe tofu burger and the schnitzel were highlights for us. Desserts were slightly less successful, but tasty nonetheless.
The service is relaxed and friendly but also very efficient - orders were taken and courses brought with just the right amount of 'pause' between each. The wine lists are not extensive but there's still a good choice, and, again, it's great to have vegan options.
We'll absolutely be returning and recommending.
Pros: Excellent food and options for small plates, Good atmosphere and set-up, tables well spaced, Good choice of wines
Cons: Not cheap - but still value for money

Fully vegan place.
Read moreThe food here is just incredible. Original, inventive, tasty and healthy. I've had several dishes from the menu (which changes occasionally) and have loved every single one of them. Have brought non-vegan friends here and they were blown away. Very reasonable prices considering how good the food is. The service is excellent, prompt and friendly. Lovely non-pretentious ambience, with interesting and quirky customers.
My favourite place ever.
Just go!

Amazing - Edit
We shared several of the small plate dishes for our meal & they were all amazing. Really interesting & innovative flavours & ingredient combinations. Service and atmosphere was great too. My only slight criticism is that everything was quite intensely flavoured and sometimes it’s just nice to have the vegetables shine in their own right.

Very Hebden! - Edit
Very atmospheric (in the basement). Great selection of wine. Gluten-free options aren’t labelled on the menu, but are available if you ask the servers. Food is on the expensive side and some of the food flavour combinations are a bit on the experimental side, but overall a lovely experience.

Lush food and vibes - Edit
We had a really good dinner here tonight. The baked ‘Camembert’ is delicious, topped with rosemary and garlic and served with great sourdough. I had the moussaka, which was served inside a baked aubergine. My partner had the tofu burger which he said was full of different flavours, creamy mayo, crispy tofu and a punch of jalapeño cutting through. Lovely atmosphere and staff too. It’s a bit pricey but we thought it delivered value for money.

Fantastic food, well presented and a really nice menu. We tried a few things on the menu from Nibbles through to dessert. Couldn't fault it, you could tell a lot of effort had been put into the dishes. Nice friendly staff too, I'll be going here again definitely.

Delicious vegan food though some dishes are a bit on the pricey side - Edit
We went in a group and ordered a lot of different things, so got a good idea of the menu at Nelson's. The presentation and flavour of all the dishes was absolutely amazing, so we really have to be super positive about that. The glazed tofu on noodle salad and the crème brûlée were the winners of the evening and the cheesecake that was on the menu is definitely also recommended.
Read moreI'd recommend the arancini too, which were very soft and tasty, but there were only 3 small arancini on the plate for £7, which in all honesty felt a little meagre. The same goes for the mushroom kiev with greens which at £14 felt a bit on the small side (2 portobello mushrooms on a handful of greens).
Pros: Delicious food, Lots of choice, Fresh ingredients, lovingly presented
Cons: Value for money very variable

Great vegan food - Edit
They have just reopened as fully plant based restaurant after being shut for over a year. We went down there for food on a hot thursday evening and it was nice and cool to sit down there. The food was out of this world off the scale and the natural orange wine was just delightful. Staff are friendly and efficient. Will defo be going to this basement restaurant again very soon.

Lots of choice but meh - Edit
Lots of choice, including clearly-labelled vegan items, but my moussaka was decidedly sub-par - mostly cheese sauce, or so it seemed. Surprisingly uninspired for a veg-dedicated place.

Friday night, couples meal out - Edit
Came here on a Friday teatime! It was hot and sunny outside, but cool and dark inside - it’s based downstairs. The other 3 are omnivores and seemed happy with the vegetarian options but found the vegan options to be less tasty. To drink I had mango juice (bottled). I ordered garlic bread which was lovely. I had the coconut, chick pea and sweet potato curry with saffron rice. It was quite bland. I kept adding salt and pepper for extra flavour. For dessert I had the vegan chocolate fudge cake with cream and ice cream, it was pretty good and a big portion which I love! The service was great, the clientele were nice too. As it’s dog friendly, they brought theirs with them! I would come back again, but probably not during daylight hours.
