Vegan dishes include in-house-made cassava chips, fried black bean fritters and potato fritters in a tangy tamarind chili broth topped with mango and coconut. Also serves Gujarati-style thali. Small family-owned and operated one room restaurant. Food is prepared on a tiny coal stove in front of you by the owner. Look for a paper sign on the door that reads Zanzibar Mix (veg). Best Vegan Zanzibar Mix

This was my favorite place to eat in Zanzibar. The house specialty called the Zanzibar Mix was vegan, very inexpensive (3000Tsh/2USD), prepared fresh in front of us, and absolutely delicious. The owners are lovely and chatted with us as they made the food. This is a tiny place and easy to miss, but very worth seeking out. They have a very basic set-up (a few plastic chairs and tiny coal stove) so do not expect a full on restaurant, but excellent food and service at a great value. Take away is also possible.
