Italian inspired food - Edit
We weren’t exactly spoilt for choice when we decided to visit Otsu (which is really worth the time, beautiful place). The restaurant is located by Lake Biwa and has outdoor seating that overlooks the lake. We sat inside, which was probably wise considering the size of the buzzards outside. I’m certain one of them would’ve swooped down to steal what was, the most delicious vegan sandwich and salad lunch set. If you don’t speak or read Japanese then the menu is not much use to you as it is handwritten in Japanese. However, the waitress and chef are aware of vegan requirements and can advise which dishes are or can be made vegan.
Read moreThe sandwich was incredible, homemade crispy baguette style bread stuffed full with roasted vegetables and a tangy mustard spread and crumbly Kyoto tofu sprinkled on top. The salad selection on the side was delicious, the salad dressing on the leaves was especially nice but so was the cold vulgar wheat and quinoa mixes. There was also a small fruit salad in a little dish that was sweet and juicy - like a little dessert.
At less that 3,000¥ for two sets plus drinks it was an absolute steal. I’d have happily paid double that considering the quality.
Pros: Delicious, Fresh and high quality ingredients , Staff knowledgeable
Cons: Limited amounts so some dishes might be sold out

Good vegan food - Edit
It's a bright moden casual restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating directly located at lake Biwa. They offer healthy food and many vegan options (among them mixed vegan japanese starters, taco rice, spaghetti, cake). I went here 3 times and always enjoyed. Staff was very friendly and explained the food to me. They sell some food items (e.g vegan chocolate).

Great food with a view - Edit
My husband and I both had the vegan taco rice set and the vegan rare cheesecake. It was so yummy (the cheesecake was specially delicious) and the views of Biwako Lake from the terrace were just ideal. Such a calm and peaceful place. Really recommend it!!!

Casual organic cafe on lakefront-Otsu - Edit
Warms cafe is on Nagisa-dori, Otsu,in Shiga prefecture. It's an easy day trip from Kyoto on the Keihan line. With indoor and outdoor seating, the cafe has a great view of Lake Biwa, in a green, peaceful setting. Lunch is served 11-2; dinner 5:30-10:00, with drinks and desserts for sale outside the set meal hours. We arrived a bit too late for lunch, and settled for organic coffee, vegan pound cake, draft beer. The lunch sets looked good, and vegan food is an option clearly marked on the menu.

Lunch: 11-2; Dinner 17:30-22:00; drinks & desserts all day. A small sales area has organic produce, dry goods , ceramics and glass. The cafe has a friendly , casual atmosphere and a fantastic location for relaxing and watching boats on the lake, walkers and bikers in the paths. It's very easy to find!
Location: on the Lake Biwa lakefront in Otsu, a 10 minute walk from the Otsu- Keihan line Shimanoseki station. Exit the station & walk toward the lake shore. Facing the lake, head to the right along the lakeside walkway. The cafe is on a grassy promontory on the lakefront, directly after a 3-story concrete "fort" structure that stands out on the lakeshore, and a public restroom. A tall Post Office building is visible in the city streets nearby, as another landmark.
Pros: Vegan options , Lakefront setting , Tasteful design, jndoor/outdoor seating

Nice vegan weekend by the lake! - Edit
Otsu is a small lake city only two stations away from JR Kyoto station. Walking about 20 min toward the lake you can get to this restaurant. Very nice view and this restaurant used to be 100% vegan ( sadly, they changed the menu) but still the chefs are very understandable to vegans needs.
