After seeing reviews for how busy it could be we went a little bit later than dinner rush and were able to get a seat straight away. The taco bowl was yum and had lots of comfort food options. We got the cheesecake too which was very good. Priced relatively well and the atmosphere was warm and calming.

Not worth the long wait - Edit
Every time I’ve been to Mumokuteki I’ve had to wait over 30minutes, often over an hour, to be seated even when there were plenty of seats available. This wouldn’t be a problem if they informed you the wait length, but their airwait doesn’t work and we were left uninformed for almost 90 minutes. When we asked we were just told to wait a little longer. Having eaten here before I can say the food isn’t bad, but it certainly isn’t worth waiting over an hour with poor customer service. Another bad point is that they use fish stock in many dishes. There are better restaurants in Kyoto.

Disappointing - Edit
Based on the good reviews here and on my Lonely Planet guide I was expecting more from this place. The food that I had was greasy and not very special.

Was expecting more but still good - Edit
Had a nice meal although was expecting more from the reviews. Had the katsu dinner set. Seemed to be almost a deconstructed Katsu Curry. All the individual elements tasted great.

Disappointing:( - Edit
After reading all the fantastic reviews on here (and Trip advisor) i was really disappointed with my meal of “Bowl of rice lokomoko style healthy tofu burger on top”. It didn’t taste fresh, was only warm in temperature, lacked flavour and was definitely not filling enough for a dinner sized meal.
Read moreSpicy wedges had a really nice flavour but were soggy rather than crunchy, as I expected them to be.
We arrived at 7:45pm, last orders were at 8pm and our dinner was served in 5 mins - was this the reason I had a below average meal?
Would definitely not recommend.
FYI - Cash only.

Great place - Edit
I love the atmosphere in this place and the food is great. Have been here many times, especially due to the great location in Teramachi Street. Portions (especially the burger) could be a bit bigger for the price though.

My favorite restaurant in Kyoto - Edit
I am so glad I found this place, it is one of my favorite spots in the whole city because it’s not only a restaurant but they also have an adorable shop area with vintage style clothing on the first floor. I loved being able to eat traditional dishes that are vegan.

Delicious tofu burger! (note: cash only) - Edit
The lokomoko plate was amazing - with vegan burger patties over rice and what tasted like egg salad. Highly recommend! Be careful of some fish stock in soups, etc. the restaurant notes in the menu though (and has English menu to make things easier!) also had the ramen which was great. Wish we had room for the vegan tiramisu but we were fully stuffed!

Little bit of a wait but only 10-15 minutes after going upstairs and reserving a table. The staff was very friendly and spoke some English. Lovely area with other vegan restaurants and things to do. One of my favourite areas In japan.

Delicious! - Edit
A bit of a wait as they were quite busy (on a Tuesday at lunch time) but it was so worth it! Had the tofu burger and honestly was one of the best vegan patties I’ve ever had in my life! Not enough chips on the side for me though but that’s a personal preference. Really good food, good vibes and friendly staff. Lots to choose from too which was nice I had the hardest time deciding what to get! Any dishes with fish stock were clearly marked. Would go back if I was in Kyoto again definitely.

Amazing food! The loco rice with tofu burger and vegan ramen were great! The mashed potatoes that came with both plates were excellent too! Nice staff and beautiful restaurant! All dishes labeled with a fish if there was fish (dashi) in it, other wise all vegan!

Delicious AND health-conscious! - Edit
We were a big group and thus had to wait a bit. Well worth it, nice service, fast, fresh, delicious homemade food with focus on healthy ingredients... probably except the fried burger patty and the mayonnaise, but amazingly good anyway. Everything vegan except for those with fish stock which are clearly labeled (english menu available). Unfortunately, a LOT of items seem to include fish stock, roughly half the menu... but you still have amazing vegan options. Price is also reasonable for the quality. The best part of this restaurant are the desserts!!! You have to try them!!! Matcha muffin, pumpkin shake, granola with veggie smoothie as “milk“, lots of awesome cakes with a fluffly and light texture... to die for!

Amazing food - Edit
I came here for desserts whilst my partner ordered the root vegetable spaghetti. I had the pancakes and milkshake which were pretty good, but the spaghetti was the real star. There were 8 groups in front of us but we didn’t have to wait long. Glad we came here.

Great location, great looking store and restaurant.
Read moreSo I went expecting clearly marked vegan options in a vegetarian restaurant....many dishes marked with fish sauce.
The waitress kindly informed us which dishes could be made vegan and we ordered accordingly. The food was great, a lovely tray full of goodies. Would definitely visit again but it would be nice if they removed all the fish sauce.
Pros: Great food, Lovely environment
Cons: Fish sauce

You need the tiramisu parfait if you don’t you’ll miss out - Edit
I could have cried and hugged everyone but the restaurant from the fact that the tiramisu parfait was so good. Think I’m lying? Go try it yourself. The katsu set was delicious and even though it is clearly marked made with fish they will make in vegan on request. Great experience. Recommend - uhhhh the tiramisu parfait
Read more* I would get ve five stars but it would not let me. Everything can be made vegan but if you eat fish then you can have fish I don’t know.
