i rate it

Soooooo i was kinda mad at Millets because i came by from breakfast the day before and they didn’t want to open the doors at 9 am . Told me to come back in the evening . This struck me as weird but ehhh the rules are different in India .

So i came back the next day for lunch ordered the mixed veg with no oil and added Chana (chickpeas) with a chapati no ghee . My food was pretty good . Nothing to crazy good but I’m just happy they listened to my request for no oil . Call me crazy but i want to taste the veggies 😂 just the fact that my food came out just as ordered is a huge win .

I ordered 2 lemon ice teas - recommend

They do not have soy milk only coconut so if you prefer soy stop at the grocery or market and get a box of soy milk.

Pros: accurate

Cons: no soy milk

Traditional Indian and fusion dishes with many vegan options

Went here twice, once for brunch and the next time for brunch that transitioned into lunch. There is a large variety of dishes available - breakfast, soups, snacks, pizzas, main dishes, drinks and desserts and I and the four other people I went with together sampled several of them. The portion sizes were decent and the food was reasonably priced.

Some of the options are only available in the afternoon (after 12pm I think) but even if you go earlier there will be a lot to chose from.

Both the fusion and the Indian food was really good. Many of the dishes have vegan options, clearly stated on the menu, and some can be made gluten-free as well. The food is generally quite healthy as well and the Indian food is not oily, which can often be the case in vegetarian Indian restaurants.

They try to use locally grown millet in a number of their dishes in place of other grains. For example they had millet porridge, chapattis (unleavened Indian flat breads) and pancakes. I didn't try the porridge but I enjoyed both the chapattis and pancakes. They also have a small shop where you can buy vegan millet cookies, which are a bit like shortbread.

What you shouldn't expect however is fake non-vegan dishes. For example their vegan pizza (which has cashew paste instead of cheese) is very tasty but doesn't really resemble a pizza made with vegan cheese. If you are used to vegan restaurants and shops in Western countries, then this will be a different experience but I personally prefer vegan food made without too many speciality and substitute ingredients.

The staff are very friendly and helpful and understand English. There are two floors. We sat on the top floor with a beautiful lake view. The decor with Indian handicrafts is simple but looks authentic. My only complaint was that the bathroom was extremely small and rather shabby-looking (although not dirty).

Updated from previous review on 2018-05-13

Pros: Tasty, reasonably priced food, Pleasant atmosphere, decor and view, Friendly, helpful staff

Cons: Tiny bathroom

nice atmosphere

Lovely seating on the first floor and a chilled atmosphere. You will feel welcome as soon as you step in.

Peanut stew wasn’t as flavoursome as I thought it would be and the portions are little bit on a small size so don’t go there starving :) or order two curries instead.

The guys can make almost every dish vegan which is a big plus and they also do water bottle refills so you don’t have to waste any plastic bottles ♻️

Pros: nice atmosphere , lake views

almost perfect

We came here 3 times during our 2 days in Udaipur. We tried the pancakes with vegan nutella and banana and they were delicious. Then we tried the pizza (they brought me the wrong one and they charged me more, but it’s fine), the tacos (too much cucumber) and the peanut stew (amazing, so delicious). But the next day we got the peanut stew again and it was tasteless, it was like a peanut soup with no flavour. I complaint and they changed it, but it still wasn’t as good as the day before (it was a little bit better tho). We felt overcharged all the time, but it doesn’t matter because we had an amazing time here, but they don’t give you a receipt so it’s hard to complain about that overcharge. Oh and the masala tea with coconut milk is heaven.

Best vegan options in Udaipur !

It's the first restaurant in Udaipur who started to offer vegan and healthy options (and a few restaurants followed them).
We stayed 2 weeks in the city to volunteer at Animal aid (hospital and shelter for street animals) and we ate there at least 10 times !
Their vegan muesli (with coconut milk) is the best in town, their indian and western food is very fresh and tasty... The place is cosy, clean and perfect to chill. The owners and staff are very friendly and listen all your specific demands. They know what vegan means and seem to be more and more implicated in it. They are even thinking about making the place 100% vegan, and we encouraged them to do so!
Go there at any time, you will not regret it.
Not as cheap as what you can find in India, but still very affordable for western people (and really worth it).

delicious healthy food!

What a lovely find in udaipur.! These guys are really concerned with giving people healthy options. Everything is fresh, made from scratch. They make cashew cheese and homemade cookies, mostly organic and locally sourced. They have Rajasthani food as well as Indian twists to western food and other western options. I had the best banana date smoothie ever with homemade coconut milk! Love to support businesses like these

Pros: lots of vegan, gf options, open all day

Healthy but delicious food

A real gem in Hanuman Ghat, very close to the lake. The vegan pancakes are excellent, as is the Indian food. I very much enjoyed the sprouted bean salad, peanut stew and dhal fry. The food is healthier and less greasy than most other places in town. Most of the menu is vegan or can be made vegan on request.

They provide coconut milk for use in tea and coffee. Personally I prefer soya milk but this works fine.

Extremely friendly staff. They have a part-covered roof terrace and indoor seating.

Pros: Healthy and delicious food, Lots of vegan options, Friendly staff

Incredible, Delicious and Great Cooking Course!

A really lovely place with great vegan options and very warm and friendly staff! Definitely try the vegan peanut butter cookies made with millet- great for a snack on a long journey!
Highly recommend the dhal fry and you can ask for a lot of things to be made without animal products too :) Coconut milk is freshly made and delicious, as is their vegan Nutella (wish id had time to try their vegan pancakes!!)
My mum and I spent 2 hrs doing a cooking course with one of the very cheerful owners! You could choose 5 dishes to make which you eat after each bit of preparation and get the recipes emailed after!
Not only is the food tasty, but it is also promoting slow food with strong eco principles and organic wherever possible! Made our trip to Udaipur 10× better!

Pros: Friendly , Tasty, well made food, Lots of vegan choices

Cons: We couldn't try the pancakes

not worth what they charge

Expensive and disappointing. I had the cashew curry and had really high hopes but it was pretty bland and not worth their very high price. Would not go again. In a country where they are all about their amazing food this meal really stands out as a disappointment.

Cons: overrated, overpriced

Pros: good food, friendly people, cool interior and view

Vegan pizza!!!

Great place! Their rooftop terrace is so nice and the food a welcome change from typical Indian fare. I had one of their millet pizzas. It’s different from Italian pizza, but very very good. And the best thing is that they have cashew cheese for it for their vegan guests! Also lots of other choices!

Pros: Excellent food, Relaxing location, Nice staff

Delicious

Our VegVoyages group had lunch on the top floor at Millets of Mewar. Lovely atmophere and even better food. We started with carrot ginger juice and pizza made with cashew milk cheese. Just delicious. The entrees were in a buffet for us and it was all so tasty. We ended with chocolate banana pancakes. If they were all vegan, they would get 5 cows from me. Definitely go if in Udaipur.

Pros: delicious pizza, lovely atmosphere, nice owners

Cons: not all vegan

Freshest in Udaipur

i ate here a few times on my stay, and enjoyed every dish i sampled. the vegetable wrap was my favorite, it tasted somewhat like a fajita. the banana date coconut milk shake was excellent as well. the dishes are small, but also not that pricey. and, everyone on staff knew what was vegan, and what could be made vegan. just ask!
the restaurant is easy to find, the review below gives good directions. also, millets of mewar had information on animal aid unlimited, a vegan run animal sanctuary on the outskirts of udaipur... http://www.animalaidunlimited.com/

Pros: fine quality, good taste, nice location

Cons: not all vegan

Great options for vegans

this great little restaurant is on the hannuman ghat side of the foot bridge just down the hill from dream heaven guesthouse. Good selection of vegan food options, including pancakes, curries, continental, snacks, coconut milk, deserts, etc... Prices are cheap. A meal will cost between 100-140 rupies. Also, the owners here are extremely friendly and love to talk. The food is also organic and they use much less oil than most restaurants which makes the food a bit healthier. you rcan also watch a movies of your choice. Good selection of bollywood and documentary films.

Pros: great selection of food on the menu, inexpensive, friendly staff

Cons: no view of the lake
