Friendly staff, knowledgeable of food allergies. - Edit
Our server, John, was absolutely wonderful. 🙌 Open and helpful regarding ingredients used in their recipes. Gluten free and vegan dishes/options are clearly marked. They use both vegan cheese & sour cream and their guacamole recipe is dairy free!🤗🌿🥑

Slow service - Edit
Service here was very slow. The neighboring table was served their food well before us, even though we came first. We were about to give up when it came. There was many to go orders that came and went in the meantime. The food was so-so.

Shockingly Delicious Burrito - Edit
For starters, I completely understand why HappyCow only allows four stars as the max for non-vegan restaurants. With that said, the vegan burrito is five stars good.
Read moreAs with any non-vegan option, there was some anxiety about the vegan option actually being vegan or prepared correctly. Even with a very sensitive stomach, we were all safe. The vegan cheese shreds are very thin and small, which we don’t typically see, so don’t be alarmed if that’s what you get. Plus, the crema is scary creamy, but that was safe too.
Pros: Vegan burrito to die for
Cons: Limited options, Semi-long wait, at least when we went (M @ 7p)

Amazing vegan burrito! - Edit
My husband and I were staying in the area and had difficulty finding a restaurant open on a Monday. When we stumbled upon Mexican Kitchen, we were a little apprehensive since it’s not a fully vegan restaurant. However, we gave it a try and it was delicious! We both got the vegan burritos. The avocado crema made the burrito creamy and flavorful. Great option for vegans in the area!

Mediocre - Edit
Mexican Kitchen came highly recommended by a friend, and I wanted to love it SO badly, but it fell flat. We asked for vegan cheese and sour cream on our burritos and black bean soup, but we didn’t receive it, and they didn’t come with any kind of sauce, so they were pretty bland, and we had to add condiments at home.
Read moreThe price was fair, but I think El Azteca in Poughkeepsie does a better job at vegan Mexican food, and it tastes more authentic.
Mexican Kitchen tastes like Mexican food toned way down for an American palate.
We only went the one time, and we might have caught them on a bad night.
Pros: Lots of options , Black bean soup was very good! , Fairly priced
Cons: Not very flavorful , Didn’t receive the vegan cheese/sour cream

I ate here with my non-vegan family and everyone was happy! I had a yummy vegan bean burrito and it even came with vegan cheese and sour cream! Delicious and fresh tasting food with good prices. Always happy to support a fellow CIA Alumn!

Vegan Friendly Burritos and more - Edit
The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable in this college town. The food tasted fresh and delicious. They serve a basket of house made chips and salsa that will tempt you to fill up, but don’t. You’ll want to save room for your order.

Veg Options Weren’t obv right away - Edit
Great vibe and service! Small seating area inside and out. Menu was limited, but written on the front was a note that they have vegan cheese and sour cream- that changed everything! Few outright vegetarian options easily made vegan by swapping out the dairy. Staff was super familiar with what vegan means, so didn’t have to spend time explaining. Our loaded burritos were delicious!! Would go back just for there 🤗

Best Mexican in New Paltz - Edit
I've eaten at a bunch of other Mexican places in town, but first time trying here and it will be my go-to spot. Super nice owner who knows vegan. My only wish was for a vegan protein beside the beans you could add to a burrito or a tostada.

Inexpensive & delicious vegan options - Edit
We wandered around downtown New Paltz looking for a quick lunch before heading on the road. I was immediately drawn to Mexican Kitchen's menu because of the clear labeling of vegan cheese and vegan sour cream options (unlike some other places in town that offer Mexican food, but no vegan dairy products). They were also very inexpensive and had the option of indoor or outdoor seating.
Read moreWe were greeted by the friendly owner and received a complimentary basket of chips and salsa (I personally loved the thinner, more flavorful salsa compared to chunkier, less appetizing types found in some restaurants).
I ordered vegetarian tostadas with vegan cheddar cheese and vegan sour cream. It was delicious and plated well. The guacamole was a nice and thick consistency and just my style.
I would definitely return again if in the area and am excited to try their other menu items that can be veganized.
Pros: Inexpensive, Vegan sour cream & cheese, Prompt service
