Deserves 5 stars - Edit
Not the largest selection of vegan items but I'm a big fan regardless and remains one of the better options for vegans in Portland despite not being a vegan restaurant.

Regulars - Edit
My partner and I come here frequently as we just love all of their vegan options. We also can’t believe how reasonable the prices are for the level of place that it is. The service is always friendly and quick. Plus it’s great you can make reservations which is why we often have dinner with friends here.

Nice vegan options - Edit
Chose this place based off being with a group of folks that aren’t vegans. I ordered the fried banana flower tacos and they were amazing!! I would definitely return to order them again. Vegan items are clearly marked on the menu.

Mestizo Madness - Edit
There were some solid vegan options but overall I felt like the food was average. I think almost every dish I got there wasn't the big latin flavors that I was expecting. The beyond empanadas were good, but missing depth. People were raving about the banana leaf tacos, but again they were muted spice and flavor-wise. The best dish was the Brussels Sprouts which had a sweet sauce.

Good Food, Good Vibes - Edit
Mestizo is a self-proclaimed neighborhood restaurant situated in SE Division offering Latin American fare. Street parking is easy and Mestizo offers plenty of vegan options.
Read moreWhen you walk through the doors you will find a lively atmosphere— think high-energy Latin pop hits playing throughout. The dining space is modern and adorned with many plants.
The food is well presented and tastes good. I ordered the chips and guac which is priced around $10. Expect to pay $8-$10 for starters and $18 for vegan entrees. With inflation most restaurants have raised prices, but the guacamole serving size is generous and topped with micro greens.
The service is efficient and staff are friendly. Happy Cow only allows a four-star rating
for non-vegan restaurants, however I would give their vegan menu a rating of 4.6/5. I would recommend Mestizo to any vegans who are looking for a fun and energetic atmosphere with good food.

Pure deliciousness - Edit
With so many great vegan options as well as seafood, there is something for everyone. The margaritas were tasty, and every single dish we ordered was delicious. Try the banana flower tacos, the empanadas, and the coconut meat ceviche.

The menu is filled with lots of wonderful vegan options. Banana flour tacos, perfectly seasoned mushrooms, empanadas, coconut ceviche & jackfruit. All of their aïoli‘s are made with veganaise. Super tasty cocktails and amazing food flavors. One of my local favorites!

My favorite restaurant - Edit
So many vegan options. Entirely gluten-free, soy-free establishment (for now - I hear they plan to start brunch and plan to serve soy). But those are my allergies and since vegan places tend to go heavy on the soy, it's actually quite difficult for me to dine out without fear of being dosed.
Read moreTheir banana flower tacos are ruin-your-life good. Hongos are savory and acidic. The jackfruit ropa vieja is comfort food to a T. Beyond meat empanadas are crispy, warm, salty, savory, delicate little packets of delight. Coconut ceviche is simultaneously light and rich. Guac is mild with a lime-forward presentation, with plump, crisp chips. The brussels sprouts have a citrus front with a pepper back and a little bit of heat that doesn't hit until a few seconds after you start chewing. Roasted cauli and yam are absolutely delicious too, though I had them a while ago and can't recall well enough to describe. Only items I haven't tried here are the house salad, the yucca fries, and the rice and salad bowl. Seriously I don't think you can go wrong at Mestizo. I go here every chance I get.
Pros: Everything is ruin-your-life delicious, Super friendly staff, Gluten-free, soy-free establishment
Cons: Serves animals
