I saw this market stall listed on Happy Cow and literally walked right into it at the Spitalfields market. So excited! I ordered the “traditional” platter so I could try a little of everything. It was all so good. I prefer my Ethiopian food a LOT more spicy, and although they offer chili sauces, since I wasn’t sure how spicy the food might already be, I went too conservative on the sauce. Lesson learned. I’m here in London for a week so I’m sure I’ll have the chance to try it again, this time with more chili sauce!

Read moreThis was so good!! All kinds of different pulse and grain, all flavoured subtlely but on point. They all went together really well. It felt really nutritious and was very pleased to get to know new flavours. Was not a fan of the crepe-like rolls, but my boyfriend loved them.
would recommend!

A lovely food stall in Spitalfields Market. I wasn't sure if I wanted to try their Ethiopian dishes because what I had tried before was ok but didn't have a wow factor. Their food was not only wfpb but extremely delicious. We tried the special which was a bit of everything and every bite was an explosion of aromas and textures.
Read moreWhat is more, you get real value for money (which I cannot say for other places in London). For only 6.5 pounds you get a huge plate. I couldn't finish it so I took the rest home.
The staff is super friendly, too.

I had the mixed plate, which is basically a bit of everything. The food was a mix of tepid and cold lentils, veg, sauces and salads. It was all perfectly nice, with some familiar flavours and some new ones, but it really wasn’t the kind of food you dream of having again. The dishes mostly cost £6.50.

Coming from Germany, travelling London as a vegan has been quiet disappointing. Its all overpriced and overrated and not nearly as convenient as media reports would suggest. This little jewel is priceless though. Located in a nice flea market that already is worth the travel it is really as colorful as the pics suggest (no editing). All beautifully freshly prepared, nutritious with a huge selection of legume dishes, very tasty and so reasonably priced. For less than 7£ you get a take away portion big enough for 2!!

I love Merkamo Ethiopian food. It is healthy, fresh, tasty and super cheap - £6.50 for a generous portion. My favourites are the gluten free platter and the injera traditional plate.

Absolutely amazing Ethiopian food bowls of awesome! I regularly grab my lunch from here and everything is fresh, tasty and super healthy. Plus, it's pretty cheap for the amount of food you get.

Didn't expect them to be open as I was half an hour early but they were setting up the display plates. Affordable and flavoursome vegan food compared to a lot of specialty vegan restaurants in town. From broad beans and okra to lentils and couscous... So good!

The first time I had ever tried Ethiopian vegan food and what a joy! A lot of different flavours on the plate and afterwards I didn't feel hungry for a few days!! Definitely recommend and now a common source of food when I'm at the market.
