Fantasie statt Memoire - Edit

Quality declined - expensive - Edit
This restaurant was one of our favourites since it opened a few years ago. With time unfortunately the quality declined (dishes taste less good than before), plus the prices are more expensive than in other vegan restaurants that do have better quality. If you want to eat something different that a vegan bowl and try something a little "exotic", then it serves it purpose. But for really good Vietnamese food there are far better options like "Laternen" or "Hanoi Pho".

Probably the best Vietnamese food in Mannheim! - Edit
Memoires d'Indochine is a small restaurant in the city centre, very close to Paradeplatz. It also happens to be really good, making it very crowded at peak times. (They opened a second location close to the Water Tower in 2019, that's how popular they are!) I like going there for an early dinner a bit before 18:00, before it gets super busy. They have a separate vegan menu with starters and mains - and probably the best Vietnamese food in town!

Many vegan options - Edit
A nice place in the center of the city. The food I had was very good and the staff friendly. At the time of our visit a vegan menu was present without request and contained several options for starter and main, also one dessert. For sure I will visit this place again.

Gute Vegane Alternativen - Edit
Kleines Lokal.

Best Vietnamese Food! - Edit
One of my favorite places to eat in Mannheim, I've been here countless times. Very delicious Vietnamese food, vegan items are clearly marked on the menu. They even have a vegan starters menu now.
Read moreIt's a small place, but they make it work with the space they have. I've been here lots of times with non-veg*n people and everyone has loved the food so far, no matter what diet they follow.
Pros: friendly staff, delicious food, short wait times
Cons: fixed reservation periods at night

High quality Asian food - Edit
Not going to lie, this was probably the best tofu that I have ever eaten. I tried the "Bun Chay" which is two skewers with tofu and vegetables as well as rice noodles in sauce. It was rich in flavor and a really big portion size. The serving looked really fancy as well.
Read moreOne thing that I want to mention, that I find pretty odd, is that there are fixed reservation times. I called to make a reservation (a few days in advance) for two people at 7pm and the waitress said that only 6pm or 8:30pm would be available. Not sure why, I found it a bit confusing. Make sure to make your reservation early enough. Other than that this is a great place to go for some high quality vegan Asian food.
Pros: great tofu, separate vegan menu
Cons: weird fixed reservation times, very crowded in very little space

tasty food - Edit
I tried all the vegan dishes and they all were really tasty. I wish they will change them from time to time, because they are the same over the last years. In the evening I would recommend a reservation. The stuff is always a bit in a hurry.

Lovely food but differences in portion sizes - Edit
On our visit to Mannheim I had the vegan tofu and veggie skewer and my friend the vegan yellow curry. We both quite liked our dishes because the vegetables were not overcooked but still rather firm and because the homemade tofu tasted good as well. My skewer meal was huge whereas my friend´s curry was a lot smaller and not completely satiating even though the price difference is only 1 euro.

Delicious! - Edit
I've been to Memoires d'Indochine many times as both vegan and non-vegan and their food is always delicious! They now have a vegan section in their menu, which is great so you don't need to ask whether or not a dish is vegan.

Delicious food but you have to eat fast! - Edit
I went to Mémoires d'Indochine a couple times this year. It's a pretty hip Vietnamese/Laotian restaurant with a lot of success - the place is not very big, but always full. Apparently they used to have a vegetarian menu, which they reworked recently to make it completely vegan.
Read moreRight now it consists of two appetizers and four main dishes. I didn't ask about the desserts, they look like they might be vegan (or made so) but it's not stated on the dessert menu.
If you are vegan, you have a choice between a rice noodle and tofu soup, a red curry tofu and rice dish, vegetable and tofu skewers and sliced spring rolls on rice noodles. The good news is that I tasted all of these and they are all delicious! Even my omnivore inlaws loved their vegan dishes.
The menu doesn't have a lot of different items (vegan or not, the menu isn't huge), which means that the service is pretty fast.
The downside to this is that you can sometimes feel like you are pushed out the door. In my experience it's fine during the week, but if you go there on a Saturday night without a reservation, the staff will make you feel like you have to hurry up and free the table. If you take a bit longer than average to eat, you might be the only one on the table who still has a plate. The stools you sit on (instead of chairs) reinforce this impression. You're here to eat and leave, not spend the whole evening in the restaurant.
Overall the food is really delicious, but I recommend avoiding going there during the week instead of the weekend, especially if you don't have a reservation!
Pros: delicious, separate vegan menu, fast service
Cons: no information about desserts, stools instead of chairs, the staff pushes you to hurry up
