This place was a bit out of the way for me but it was worth the detour. I had the Gozen set for lunch that allowed me to taste all 4 mabo tofu types and their amazing gyozas. I highly recommend the gyozas and also the red and plant cheese mabu tofu. I hope I can make it back here next time I come to Tokyo

I had the Shogun deluxe Mapo tofu set and I also tried the Dan Dan mapo tofu. The gyoza to die for. The tiramisu was so creamy. Everything was flavorful, the vibe was great, amazing staff. Worth a visit.

This place is fully vegan and has flavorful food. My non vegan family also enjoyed the meal and were we has good portions. My cousin is non vegan an does not like spice and was able to find a dish she enjoyed. We all loved the desserts and the Gyoza as well. My Mapo Tofu dish was amazing. I recommend this place. It’s on a quiet side street but we’re able to grab taxi right in front of the restaurant after we finished our meals.

We found it difficult eating vegan in Tokyo (who would have thought that?) with the fish and seafood heavy diet, and not being able to read menus….so we were thrilled to find this restaurant. Friendly staff and a delicious meal-a perfect combination!

What can I say? Everything was five stars. I had the winter limited ginger vinegar Mapo and gyoza - loved both. The dessert Matcha Tiramisu came presented in a glass and the cream was so yummy and had biscuits inside.

I have not had tofu in such a long time as I had eating at Tsuminaki. My goodness, what an incredible addition to the Tokyo food scene and one I am looking forward to returning back for more.
Read moreDuring our visit, we saw a large variety of different mapo tofu styles to choose from for lunch. I went with their red mapo tofu and gyoza lunch combination which comes with pickled vegetable and the fluffiest rice.
The tofu here was absolutely incredible. Such great consistency, excellent flavor, and left me eating up all my rice before tapping out. It's not too spicy either so those with a lower tolerance can still come and enjoy this delicious bowl of warmth.
The gyoza was also super crispy and juicy. This made for the perfect accompaniment to the creamy tofu.
This restaurant happens to be fully plant-based so it's perfect for vegetarians and vegans to safely enjoy.
Staff were super friendly and used to seeing visitors from around the world. I saw a lot of Japanese salarymen eating here when I went so it's definitely a hit with the locals as well. Can't wait to come back and have more of their mapo tofu soon.

I've never had mapo tofu before, but I thought this place was great! Different types of rich sauces that the tofu was served in, very savory and complex flavors. The udon noodles were also savory and seemed fresh. The dumplings were especially fantastic, and my favorite dish here. We ordered the tiramisu for dessert, and it was not at all what I was expecting; it seemed more like a pudding than tiramisu, with some cookie crumbles, but it was still very good. Would definitely eat here again!

Aimed at tourists - Edit
Mapo Tufo (sometimes written as "mabo tofu") is one of my favourite meals. So when Happy Cow listed a restaurant that serves nothing but mapo tofu, I had to go there! Which is easier said than done, because Apple Maps dropped me off at the wrong place. Then I tried Google Maps, which took me to the exact same spot! Only after I asked a local for help, I found out it was some 500 metres away from the spot that Apple Maps and Google Maps told me to go. To avoid any and all confusion about the address, here's the GPS coordinate: 35.66645 North and 139.75150 East.
Read moreBecause "Tsuminaki Mapo Tofu" is located near the Shimbashi area, it is aimed at the night life. People come here to eat, drink and party. So don't expect a fancy place, but rather a simple yet accommodating restaurant. The menu is both in Japanese and English. It clearly lists how spicy each meal is, since mapo tofu can (and should!) be extremely spicy. Since I visited for lunch I didn't feel like a spicy meal and ordered the "white sesame mapo tofu".
It arrived quickly and was nicely presented. I also noticed it's a bit simple. It only comes with white rice (no brown rice available) and the amount of vegetables is negligible. It is just a bowl of tofu in broth. Since this restaurant claims to be a mapo tofu specialist, I expected something beyond the average; something only a specialist can make. Instead, the meal gave me the feeling Tsuminaki is aimed at tourists who enjoy mapo tofu for the first time.
Nonetheless, the taste of the tofu in broth was decent. And given the friendly price, who am I to complain?
Pros: low prices, easy meal
Cons: I expected more from a specilaist restaurant

One of my FAVOURITE Japan meals - Edit
Came here because it was highly rated and it did not disappoint. Some of the tastiest gyoza I’ve ever had and mapo tofu was delicious too. Tried both the golden and the red pepper (spice level one was perfect for me). Also tried the chocolate and the matcha tiramisu which were both just okay. But the dinner was so good we would definitely come back!!

We tried Sichuan pepper and "White and red" Mapo Tofu with rice. Both were delicious, but I liked Sichuan pepper more, it is recommended for a reason. The portions are small, I suggest taking at least a medium portion of rice and adding gyoza, which are also small.
