Not vegan - Edit
They said they couldn’t give us rice or lentils because it’s cooked in ghi. Everything on the menu appears to be cooked in ghi. They made us an off menu meal without any animal products, and it was terrible. On the up side, their entrees appear to be vegan. Their samosa’s and bhaji’s were delicious, with a delicious chutney dip. Seems to be a decent place if you’re a vegetarian.

Cheap and tasty - Edit
We've eaten here a few times recently, working our way through the menu. Staff have advised us about vegan options with no problems - the combo is vegan if lassi is swapped for a soft drink, and most dosas we've tried have been vegan (exception is the ghee dosa which obviously is not). Food is cheap and tasty.

authentic, yummy - Edit
I've been to Lakishimi Vilas a couple of times for lunch/early dinner. Its like a little cafe you would find in an Indian city shopping district (down to the handbasin in the corner to wash your hands before/after eating). Its basic but clean and the ladies who run it are friendly and helpful, the kitchen is open behind the counter. Smallish menu of snacks and curries (thali-but I think you can order separate dishes), there are lassis and a nice cup of chai. Its a great place for authentic indian vegetarian food. whenever I've been there most customers seem to be of Indian background so I guess that's a good recommendation. Reasonably priced. I dont know if you can book but if you are making a special trip it would be worth checking because it is small and the tables are small too.

You gotta try the DOSA! - Edit
Dosa is one of those foods, that until recently, was very hard to get it Australia. It is a thin crepe, filled with spicy (typically) potato, served with a thin dhall (called sambar)and cococut chutney. It is vegan, and crispy- few people know how to do it well-this place does. Lakshmi Villas is quaint, cafe style place, often busy and noisy. The staff are friendly, the food always good and fresh and prepared with care. I would recommend this place for the food, but not particularly for the ambience.
