Tasty!

Fast, tasty, authentic, not expensive.
It‘s not fancy, so you might not choose it for a fancy occasion.
I would definitely come back.

Basic food for cheao

I had a chapati and dhal there with an orange dessert, the dessert was not so good but maybe because it was the end of the day.

Pros: Vegetarian food, Simple, Cheap

Cons: Not fantastic

Great local restaurant

We tried the downstairs restaurant (apparantly somewhat more spicy and local), and were not disappointed: lots of vegan options to choose from, tasteful and super-cheap.

Pros: Aimed at locals, Lots of vegan options, Cheap

Amazing food and value for money

Just ate here, had potato curry and massala dosa, not much English spoken here at all but point to the board and they're fine with it.

Incredibly cheap and really delicious, will be going back here.

Pros: Great food, great price.

Cons: Very basic inside, not a formal restaurant if that

Local experience

The staff have limited English so it pays to point and choose, or follow the waiter's suggestions. I had some dosa pancake things with a lentil dal and a potato curry, plus a plate with some random pastries. It all seemed to disappear in a few minutes and I was left with a full stomach and burning mouth. Must've been tasty! All up with a Coke and a tip for the friendly waiter - about US$2.50. Would come again if in the area but might try other places. Also, the staff said there's a veg place in the next alley serving rice and curry standards, for those not into dosa style eating.

Worth for money, You can eat alot for a 1 dollar

This is one of oldest vegetarian restaurant in Sri Lanka. However it is typical Indian Dosa, Wada, place. Now a days you can find same kind restaurants every city in Sri Lanka.

Pros: cheap, big portions, vegan options

Cons: Hygiene, Must verify vegan food, Not friendly

Local Dosa Cafe

This simple and local dosa eatery offers meals for about 200 rupees. The place is supposed to be vegetarian but be wary - the fried savory (doughnut shaped) bread they serve as an appetizer contained fish when I visited. Otherwise the menu looks veg with vegan options once the dairy is omitted. I ordered a plain dosa and the staff understood not to use ghee.

Pros: Local, cheap

Cons: Served fish

ok

Been there twice as it was close to my hotel. Can't say that the room is really appealing, but the food was ok, at least the Dosa. Tried the Ghee (150Rs) and Paper Dosa (130Rs). I've had also an Idly that was disappointing,

Basic, but reasonable.

Found this place by accident, whilst looking for another listing (that I couldn't find). It's typical South Indian, so is fine for vegetarians, but vegans will need to watch out for the ghee. Staff speak little English, but do their best to assist. Food is tasty.

It is very much for locals - it is basic, honest food. I went twice. It's fairly central and was able to get vegan with a little effort. The level of hygiene may be marginal but I didn't get sick after eating there!

Pros: Inexpensive, Location, Tasty food.

Cons: None worth mentioning.
