Not Recommended At All

I’ve been waiting to review The Snipe for a long time, as it was there that I experienced my worst vegan moment. We went to The Snipe for a meal, having checked in advance that they had vegan options. To be fair, they had quite a few vegan options - in theory - so we were pretty optimistic going in.

Having sat down and picked what we wanted, we went to order. They didn’t have the first option. They didn’t have the second option. In fact, they didn’t have any of the vegan options. I was left in the embarrassing position of being asked what I wanted to do - leave or stay.

When you’re in a group and you’re pur in that position, it’s embarrassing and humiliating. If I check the menus in advance, I expect at least one of the vegan options to actually be available on the day. If not, just put on the website that, at the present moment, they are unable to accommodate vegans. Theoretical vegan menus are worthless to me.

Now, my experience is obviously subjective but The Snipe comes heavily NOT RECOMMENDED. I always find that there are places that have a can-do attitudes towards vegans, then there are places that have a “Well, if we have to…” attitude towards vegans. At least with Wetherspoons (damn them) they enthusiastically embrace their extensive vegan menu.

So yeah, rant over. The Snipe is blacklisted for me for all eternity. They could be selling the elixir of life for a fiver and I’d rather burn the fiver first.
