I was surprised to find that I had inadvertently ordered a meat patty. Upon asking I was informed that the menu had been changed a few days ago to include meat products. Milk products, however, have not been introduced. I had a talk with the manager who was very apologetic and explained the change in policy very clearly. Reintroducing meat was a reluctant decision following many complaints and even cases of vandalism in response to meat-eating customers feeling duped into eating plant-based food during their visit. While this is a depressing reflection on our society as a whole, I feel that it is difficult to judge the restaurant too harshly when trying to deal with the realities and everyday stresses of running a business under such difficult circumstances.
Read moreThe staff were very accommodating and showed me around the food preparation area, explaining how all non-vegan products were handled separately to avoid cross-contamination. I will still continue support the restaurant, as I would any other restaurant which serves both vegan and non-vegan food and hope that one day the situation will improve in order for them to gradually reintroduce a more vegan-friendly menu.
P.S. My burger was replaced free of charge.

Idk, they could have also did what any other vegan/plant based restaurant does and made it clear what they serve, if that's what's important to them. If that's the argument, might as well support Burger King and McDonalds too (ok not quite the same thing, but you get what I mean)

Read moreIch benutze hier den Begriff ‘pflanzlich’, weil vegan ein Begriff ist, der eine ethische Entscheidung umfasst. Es war mir von Anfang an klar, dass es sich hier um ein Konzept handelt und nicht, dass dieses Restaurant aus ethischer Überzeugung vegan gewesen sei.
Ich habe das Restaurant öfters unterstützt und mehrmals dort gegessen und immer für gut empfunden. Allerdings wird das jetzt nicht mehr der Fall sein. Ich habe es langsam satt mit Restaurants , die sich als vegan ausgeben und dann wenig Monate später Fleisch anbieten. das ist auch bei funky bowl/Vedang usw passiert. Geld steht offensichtlich an der ersten Stelle und nicht die Tiere.
Ich habe vor ein paar Monaten einem Freund gesagt, dass ich glaube, dass Hulala nur Zeit begrenzt pflanzlich bleiben wird. Und das hat sich genauso bewahrheitet.
Mir ist lieber andere Restaurants zu unterstützen , auch die, die nicht rein vegan sind, aber sich nicht von Anfang an als vegan ausgegeben haben. Das handelt sich hier beinah um Verbrauchertäuschung.
Happy Cow sollte dringlich das vegane Label vom Profil entfernen.
Es ist schade, aber damit habe ich gerechnet. Aber leider gibt es keine veganen Restaurants mehr in der Düsseldorfer Innenstadt.
Das Restaurant sollte diese Änderung außerdem offenlegen , da man sich nicht mit diesem neuen Konzept überraschen lassen möchte.

I am using the term plant based as it is clear from the beginning that Hulala was a plant based concept and that animal welfare and ethics weren’t a priority .
I have supported the restaurant and been multiple times however I am no longer able to support restaurants which build up a vegan customer base and then ditch their loyal customers and (potentially values) because of money. I would rather support non-vegan and vegan restaurants which honestly communicate their intentions from the start .
Happy cow needs to remove the vegan label from the profile immediately and this should not be listed at the top for Düsseldorf - I know happy cow and Hulala have been partners in the past however this needs to be changed with immediate effect.
There are unfortunately no longer any happy cows at this business . And it’s a shame to see it follow the pattern of Vedang , funky bowl etc.
They need to communicate this openly as it’s not been publicised.

Super scheiße, dass es einfach eine gravierende Änderung im Menü gab. Es gibt nun auch Burger MIT Tierleid (sogar mehr als vegane Burger). Wurde auch nicht angekündigt, somit habe ich auch nicht damit gerechnet in einem Restaurant, dass mal 100% vegan war. Ich war mal super gerne dort aber jetzt nicht mehr.

Sehr schönes Ambiente. Man kann bequem am Tisch mit dem Handy (QR-code) bestellen - gut wenn man nicht gerne mit Leuten reden möchte. Allerdings macht das die Sache auch unpersönlich.

Der Side Salad war leider nicht knackig frisch, um nicht zu sagen welk. Aber das Dressing(Hulala) ist sehr gut.
Leider waren die Pommes für 50% unserer Gruppe zu salzig, die anderen fanden sie genau richtig. Allerdings störte mich der komische Beigeschmack, ich dachte zuerst an zu altes Fett, aber vielleicht ist das der Airfryergeschmack.
Eine absolute Empfehlung geht aber für den Nachtisch raus, zumindest für das Soft Ice Pistachio Crunch und das Soft Ice Salted Caramel, sehr gut abgestimmt: leicht salzig, crunchy, cremig mit einem ganz tollen Soft Ice, das wieder nichts vermissen lässt. Echt sehr lecker.
Leider waren die Soft Ice Chocolate brownies nicht so gut, was definitiv am Soft Ice lag. Der Pistachio Ice Bun, na ja nette Idee , geschmacklich nicht so.
Für die veganen Burger lohnt sich der Weg (auch von Hilden oder Wuppertal) Cheeseburger, Bravocado, BBQ Smash echt gut!

Das Essen ist Mega schnell am Tisch gewesen, das wird daran liegen, dass so ziemlich alles schnell zubereitet werden kann (Bausteinprinzip). Freundliches Personal.
Aber ein kleiner Fun Fact: Hinsetzen und mal schätzen wie viele Nicht-Veganer sich dort hineinverirren und aus Versehen lecker vegan essen. Denn dieses Restaurant hat das Wort „vegan“ nicht plakativ überall stehen. Sehr cool!

Walking by and in to Hulala was such a treat, it’s so beautiful on the inside. The ambiance was perfect with people looking for the same thing, a good vegan burger and good drinks. They even let you keep one of the glasses from your drink. My fiancé and I really loved this place. It was his first vegan burger and he loved it 🥹. Will definitely be coming back.

My burger was dry, hard tasteless, my wife and friend had soggy and tasteless patties. The bun was allright. The vegan bacon very chewy and tough. Chips were okay. Food went cold veey quickly. Drinks were nice. Staff was friendly. An very aggressive and intimidating homeless person came in demanding money from guests. This happened whilst I was on the toilet. Staff did not intervene quickly enough.

I liked the vibe in the restaurant. Love that you can order yourself and your order will be brought at your table. The food tastes great! We came in at quite a busy time, so some tables weren't cleaned yet and our table didn't have any clean utensils or napkins. But the servers were doing their best to keep up!
