Super Yummy!

We really liked this restaurant, especially the dumplings. Yummy!

Thank you to whoever posted the picture of the exterior of the restaurant - the signs are all in Chinese so it made it easier to find.

Wait staff told our daughter, who speaks Mandarin, that the entire menu is vegan.

We recommend it!

Great food

I struggled a bit to find this, neither the Google nor Apple Maps links guided me to the correct place. I found it by searching “Huiyuan vegetarian huaihai” in Apple Maps.

You’ll see the neon sign on the second floor window, the entrance to the elevators does not indicate anything about the restaurant.

Closest vegan restaurant in Shanghai

All vegan, really tasty. Food is mid-level price range in terms of Chinese prices. Flavors are definitely Chinese and not western.

Best Chinese desserts!

The food is generally good, I had an excellent soup there, but what they are really worth going for is the desserts : small baozi filled with walnuts, jujube and other sesame-mochi like. It's really the perfect place for a tea time!

Had high expectations BUT

While the staff was very friendly and ready to help the food was meh honestly. Because of the reviews I got very excited and thought it’s really gonna be ‘the best food in China’ but unfortunately the food lacked in flavour and the tofu was very spicy (for my taste)

P.s I gave them a second chance and ordered different kind of food and it was good actually! Just no soup and no tofu next time, the soup was tasteless. Broccoli dish is my fav so far and wontons (very filling)

Cozy Vegan Spot With Amazing Soup & the Sweetest Staff 😊

This place was so delicious. We ordered the hot and sour soup and the tofu dish—both were incredibly flavorful. We also tried the dan dan noodles, which gave us that tingling, numbing sensation from the Sichuan peppercorns, so definitely be prepared for that kick!

The lady working there was unbelievably kind. She noticed I was struggling with my broken jacket zipper and spent a good five minutes trying to help me fix it. She really went out of her way, and it made the experience feel so warm and personal.

We weren’t super hungry, otherwise we would’ve ordered way more, but everything we tried was great. The restaurant is on the second floor and had a calm, cozy vibe. Overall, really good food, really good energy, and we would definitely come back again.

Amazing

I've seen the transformation of this place & really like it's latest makeover as Lotus Vegan. The dishes are still the same impressive quality & value. My lunchtime go to was the fried noodles, spring rolls & an alcohol free beer. The deep fried lotus root are always incredible. The staff are welcoming & very friendly.

One of the best veg in Shangai. I ate 3 times here in 5 days.
Is a little bit hidden. You should enter inside the building and go to the 2nd floor.

Pros: A lot of choises, Quality very high, Waitress was lovely

Most delicious buns I've ever had

Vegetable buns were so amazing, fluffy and flavorful. I also got some fried tofu which was great and some seasonal vegetables that were well seasoned. It was also quite reasonably priced for vegan food. Highly recommend

We wanted to like it

So excited to visit because of the reviews…. We were sadly disappointed. We just arrived in Shanghai and was looking for “the best vegan food “as one reviewer put it. If this is the best in China – we may have to look for restaurants offering vegan options. we ordered the sticky ribs, crab style roe, Mapo, tofu, and two different types of dumplings. Our favorite dish was actually broccoli with mushrooms.

Pros: Quiet, All vegan

Cons: Not much flavor in anything , Dumplings tasted like playdough

Best Chinese vegan food experience

This is the best food I had on my whole trip to China. Everything was so professional, from the menu to the staff. I must've used almost 20 mins to browse the menu because everything looked so delicious. I was in disbelief when I tasted the food. It was so so good. I highly recommend going to this restaurant. The staff too was amazing. I forgot my wallet at the restaurant, but the staff came running after me with it. It is of course Shanghai prices, but despite that, cheaper than I expected it would be.

Pros: Amazing food, Amazing staff, Affordable

Waste of time and money

Food is not great. Dry and tough shanghainese shaomai.
Crab xiaolongbao was same dry and flavourless. The walnut buns were dry too. The food does not taste fresh and is overpriced. You can get ready cheap and good vegan food at the local food courts.
I will not waste my money and effort to come here again.
Wontons were sold out. Traditional xiaolongbao also sold out.

Cons: Bad food, Over priced, Nothing special and most of items are sold out.

If you are saying overpriced, then I know you are a liar. No one would call them overpriced.
Taste may be subjective, but price is not.

Delicious!

Fantastic restaurant. On level 2 of a complex with lots of other restaurants. Easy to order with ali pay or wepay. So nice to have vegan options of dumplings that we don't often get to eat! Can recommend the xiao long bao and crispy tofu. Would love to come back

Well worth a Shang-hi!

This place has it all. Staff are lovely with great English, huge menu and really good food. Not too hard to find on Amaps and well worth the effort. Well priced with good portion sizes. Orange chicken was 👌🏻. Best in Shanghai for us.

Worth searching for...

Not that it's actually that hard to find if you simply trust the address.

I nearly turned around when I was standing on the street looking at what appeared to be commercial premises, then walked inside and saw the kind of security guard that you'd typically find in a modern, Western office tower passing judgement on whether you belong.

If you see the 49 out the front of the building and a surly security guy sitting at a semi-circular counter to the left when you walk in, you're there! Just head upstairs and get ready for deliciousness!

Pros: Spicy Szechuan "chicken", Back truffle dumplings if still available, Peaceful space with great air-conditioning
