Satisfyingly substantial and tasty

Popped in on the off chance and was pleasantly surprised by the vegan menu then very pleased with portion sizes! Simple, tasty and filling. The haggis and cheeze sandwich came with a tasty vegan coleslaw. My pal had the same with broccoli soup and chips. The cake was decent too.

Pros: Separate vegan menu , Friendly staff, Cosy chatty atmosphere

Cons: Expensive parking in the town

Great vegan options

Vegan menu, loads of vegan cakes and savoury options, staff who seemed fully on top of what was vegan. And the food itself was delicious. Had broccoli soup, and a scone.

Good food & loose leaf teas

They have a separate vegan menu that you need to request. On the day they had 5 vegan cakes & a vegan biscuit. They have oat, soya and coconut milk for teas & milkshakes. We were offered non bone china cups by the boss when she saw we were ordering vegan. They have a wide range of loose leaf teas that vary in price and were good quality. We made the most of some combo deals: panini & chips a sandwich and cake deal. We chose a carrot cake, a haggis & cheese sandwich and a roasted veg and pesto panini. It all tasted great and the cheese they use wasn’t too strong/cheesy which works well for me. It came with their special house slaw which was good. The price can add up, especially with the teas but the food and service felt worth it. We also managed to get there just before the crowds which was good as they turned some people away.

Cutesy and busy

We stopped for tea and cake here, and it's extremely popular so if you want to have a longer meal or in a larger group, do plan ahead. They may do reservations.
As it was late in the afternoon we only had cake and hot drink each. A few options for vegans. Big range of teas and coffees.

Quite expensive though. Friendly staff.

Pros: Vegan options, Big range of teas and coffees

Cons: Serves meat & fish, Quite expensive

Cute place

The place was really cute !
There was a full vegan menu.

Service was a bit slow, and staff seemed a bit overwhelmed even though the restaurant was not full.

Food was ok !

Pros: Cute place, Full separate vegan menu

Cons: Slow service

Cute place

Sweet place, well decorated, with wonderful staff and well served pieces of cakes. Also offers coffee with plant based milk (soya, coconut and oat). My hubby got a cappuccino with oat milk and he said that's wonderful. Staff is very kind!

Pros: Super friendly staff, Vegan cakes and coffees

Ok! But only because we were so hungry late in the day!

Looked inviting from outside with Vegan on the board. But no mention on the menu inside? Very friendly staff who could not have been more helpful and the choice of teas were really good just a shame our Panini’s were lacking much filling, had to fill them with the small salad and crisps!! that came with it. Not very exciting and not very cheap either. Could have been much better. Cake after was ok!

Pros: Friendly staff

Cons: Lack of vegan options printed on menu. , Lack of filling in panini. , Bit on the expensive side for what you got.

Decent Food - Great Tea!

They have a hand-marked menu with “star by the items that are vegan or can be made vegan. We had their pea soup and a panini - decently good. They even had a vegan chocolate cake! Amazing list of teas.

Pros: Lots of teas, Vegan cheese

Cons: Menu not well labeled, Wait staff not educated about vegan items

Very nice tea room with a separate vegan menu. Enough vegan options. Soup is always vegan. I had the soup and the vegan haggis. Both were very good. The sweets looked very tasty as well, but didn't try them.

Pros: Separate vegan menu, Very friendly and funny staff, Great food

Several vegan options, helpful staff

Walked in and asked if they had options and we were seated quickly and handed an adapted version of their menu with the vegan options marked. They were happy to adapt other options and they had plenty of plant milk options too.
No big meal options but perfect to stop by for a panini, cake, or a cup of tea or coffee. Even had vegetarian (vegan) haggis!! Great scones too!
Wonderful staff who couldn’t do enough to make you feel comfortable even though the place was extremely busy.

Pros: Helpful and kind staff, Tasty food, Lovely ambiance

Vegan paninis and a couple of cake options

Not quite a dedicated vegan menu, but they gave me another main menu that had marked what was vegan and also added the option of vegan haggis and cheese for paninis. Very busy place but a sign of its popularity and they had lots of tea options with vegan milk options (sadly 50p more than milk). And they could do their signature coleslaw vegan with the panini

Pros: Vegan haggis panini was good, Good cup of tea, Friendly staff

Cons: A little pricey, Busy

One option, no separate menu

We were lured in by the sign outside that says "vegan/gluten free menu".
Turns out they have no menu and the only option was a hummus sandwich which we had to ask for no butter also. No options marked on the menu either.
Also very expensive for what you're getting. £8.90 for a paninj with salad and crisps.

Cons: Expensive, Hectic, One option, no menu

Lovely tearoom with plenty of options

Lovely tearoom and very helpful and lovely staff despite being very busy. A lovely lady marked up the menu with all available options and explained that vegan milkshakes were available. Lovely food and not too expensive. They have a chocolate cake that you'd never believe was vegan and their coleslaw and crisps are vegan.

Deeeeelish!

Went in on a very busy Sunday, enquired about vegan options and the lovely (I assume) manager marked on the menu what was vegan and also told us we could have vegan haggis and cheese in a panini. We were also told about cakes and drink options including milkshakes made with icecream 🥰 very friendly and helpful staff and the food was delicious. Our first visit but we'll definitely go back next time we're in the area.

Only vegan option (a hummus sandwich)

Stopped by Hettie’s on 27th August 2020 and the only vegan option was a hummus sandwich. Decided not to eat here and didn’t enquire about cakes.

Cons: Only one vegan option

No vegan options as of 8/8/20

Enquired about vegan options and they said that they did not have anything vegan.

Another place to add to an array disappointments on the desperate hunt for lunch. Covid-19 may have something to do with it, but it is a shame that all the vegan options have dropped off the bottom of the menus.

Sounded great but a little disappointing

We went out of our way to go to Hetties on a Saturday afternoon at 2pm in February. It was very busy so we waited 30 mins for a table along with lots of other folk. My son's order was incorrect despite me having corrected the waitress twice while placing the order but it was quickly sorted. I ordered their salad and was very disappointed that this was just lettuce, tomato, cucumber and red onion...no crisps or coleslaw that were served with other dishes but there were two mini bread rolls which were warm and if not eaten immediately, became rock hard! We'd all been drooling over the vegan desserts - Jammie Dodger, carrot cake, chocolate brownie, mini lemon muffin - but when we ordered, we were told none of these were being offered anymore and instead there were four flavours of mini loaf. We tried three and all were equally disappointing. Hetties looked and sounded so promising but didn't deliver unfortunately.

Pros: A selection of vegan options, Dog friendly

Cons: Options were somewhat disappointing, Advertised vegan desserts weren't available, Very busy

Lovely, bustling cafe with vegan options

This place is clearly popular with locals and visitors. It's a lovely tea room in traditional style and right in the heart of town. The staff were attentive and polite and clearly well trained to provide excellent customer service. There is a separate vegan menu with a good selection of fillings - some quite inventive (tofu and avocado, peanut butter and banana) for sandwiches, paninis or a baked potato and also a small selection of vegan cakes (note - a vegan scone would be great!). We also had the lentil soup - vegan - and it was very tasty although it could have been a bit thicker.

Pros: Good vegan options , Great service

Great options, friendly staff

Had a 10 minute wait for a table as it was really busy. Staff were friendly, separate vegan options "allergen champion" on at all times, cake was very moist, they blend their own tea and Earl Grey was great.

Pros: Vegan menu, lots of options

Cons: Vegan options not listed on regular menu

Lively wee tearoom with lots of options for the tea jennies. Vegan menu is decent and had the same combo options as the regular menu, with vegan food options of course. Their cake is nice too (if a little dry).

Pros: Generous portions, good selection

Hettie's Tearoom

Very busy little tea room with a separate vegan menu which is soup, sandwiches, salads, and baked potatoes (we had to ask for the menu). Soup was delicious but tofu and avocado sandwich was very bland - just tofu straight out of the pack and sliced onto bread, with a smearing of avo. Table was very small which made eating awkward. Staff were great though and told us about milk options (soya, almond and coconut if I remember rightly!). Plenty of different types of tea, the morning cuppa is nice and strong.

Pros: Separate vegan menu, 3 milk options, Desserts available

Cons: Small tables, Tofu and avo very bland
