unexpected and great - Edit
We didn't know what to expect at first, but left loving it! Staff was super nice, well informed what was vegan (also says it on the menu) and even made a dish vegan especially for me. Prices are great and I loved the fluffy white bread which was vegan and the fresh mixed fruit juice! Would come again

So much choice - Edit
Lots of choice for vegans. Staff very kind and knowledgeable about their menu. I had the banana boli & the lentil curry with spinach and asparagus-both flavoursome yet mild and filling. We had no space for dessert, but there were several options available

Great South Indian Food - Edit
After trying the next door Donald Watson Bar last time (who serve bar/tapas versions of the Herb food) we visited Leicester we decided to try Herb proper this time.
Read moreWe were not disappointed. I had the Pre-Theatre Thali and it was a really good sized portion for the price, and I loved all of the curries I got as the selection, I really couldn't pick a favourite. My partner had the Kathrika Vazhattiyath (Aubergine curry) which was creamy and delicious. I would say that overall the curries were not very spicy, but they did not lack in flavour because of this, they were beautifully full in flavour.
Would highly recommend eating here, they have plenty of choice for vegans.
Pros: Lovely decor, good service

Visited today for the first time and I think I hit the Leicester jackpot.

Delicious - Edit
Excellent dosa and thali menu. Beautifully spicy and service was friendly and attentive. Lots of vegan choices. The vegan food came out last but it was so good I will forgive them. Leicester is fantastic for Sth Asian food.

Our second visit, did not disappoint. We had the slim thali which was delicious and a very generous portion size. The interior is both spectacular and relaxing.

A fine experience. - Edit
This restaurant is extremely vegan-friendly, I ordered the thali meal, the soup was extremely savoury and was rich in umami. When I got my thali it was so good, but the sambar had those chewing sticks I do not like, so that was a downside from me. The dessert (payasam) was so good, but I wish I got more of it.
Read morePros: Vegan-friendly., Tasty., Flavourful.
Cons: Chewing sticks in sambar., Wish they gave more for the payasam.

5/10 (February 2025) - Edit
I had a 3 course meal here. Although my main was a single curry, I tried every curry in my wife's Thali too. I found most of the food to be average at best, which was disappointing after all of the positive reviews on here. I must admit though that my wife loved her Thali, and the smoothie I had was delicious. Having been to India in the past, my wife also assured me that the curries were very authentic.
Read moreWith regards to the service, the wait staff were too attentive. Whilst I was trying to decide what to order from the many vegan options, the wait staff kept coming over to me to ask whether I had decided yet. Literally I could only read one item off the menu before a member of the wait staff would come back to me and ask if I had decided yet, which made me feel very rushed. I suppose it's better to be too attentive than inattentive though, and they were lovely at least.

Great options, lovely place, delicious food - Edit
I was visiting Leicester for the day and had found this place in advance, and took my non-vegan Dad. There are so many great sounding options on the menu it was hard to choose what to have, but went for the banana as a starter - I was expecting it to be more like plantain crisps from the menu description but it was larger pieces of plantain-like banana which comes with three sauces to dip in. Texture of the banana was great and sauces were delicious. I then had Vada Sambar which was something I hadn't seen before, a lentil/rice 'doughnut' (in a doughnut shape but denser and softer) covered in a great sauce. It could easily have been a grainy texture but it wasn't, and took on the flavour of the sauce really well.
Read moreIt's quite beautifully decorated inside too, not something I usually look out for but it was pretty striking. Fair value for money, only two issues - one is that the menu says it's exclusively vegan, when they have veggie options too, and the other is that it's not closer to home!
Pros: Flavour, Range of choices, Decor

Herb is a great South Indian veggie/vegan place - Edit
Great place serving all the South Indian classics. I had a good Bhel Poori (crunchy puffed rice in a tamarind sauce) and then a Paper Dosa (huge crispy pancake with potato curry, coconut chutney and sambal sauce). Lively decor, strangely including a motorbike! Lovely staff. Delighted to find it in the middle of the city.
Read morePros: Great dosa, Nice staff
Cons: Why can’t we have this in South East London?
