Truly Excellent - Edit
The best restaurant experience in New York by a landslide. All of the food is delicious and they have so many options that are near-impossible to find veganized anywhere else. Not to mention their impeccable wine selection. There’s a reason they’re usually booked solid with reservations, so make yours now.

An NYC vegan staple… - Edit
This is a must go every time I visit the city. Food is always amazing. I did the pre fixe with the wine pairing today which I couldn’t have been happier with. The chilled summer corn soup, the black truffle dumplings and the mushroom bibimbap with kimchi tofu were the best. I will certainly be coming back again.

The perfect meal - Edit
We ordered around 12-15 dishes and they were all great! We loved their spicy stuffed aubergine, tofu ginger clay pot, and Korean pancakes platter, and the desserts (we had black sesame cake, mocha cake, and ice cream platter) were stunning.

It’s expensive, but the quality of every dish was apparent.

Incredible Korean vegan food at an all plant restaurant! - Edit
Went here to experience traditional seating with my kids. The ambiance and food did not disappoint. I was pleasantly surprised to find so many spicy dishes on the menu. Highly recommend the sake sampler, sushi sampler and ice cream platter!

Amazing experience - Edit
I loved the atmosphere at HanGawi. It felt very authentic and like entering another world far away from the buzz of NYC. Having to take off your shoes at the entrance and being seated at low tables, the dim lighting and the quiet and calm atmosphere made the whole visit feel very special! Food and drinks were excellent and the staff was very friendly and attentive!

Dumplings & Tofu Stew & Soju Mojito - Edit
Amazing veggie fried dumplings, the table next to be got them steamed, can’t wait to try that next time. Unfortunately the tofu stew was probably one of the worst I’ve had, and I’ve lived in Korea for a while. I recommend going for other options on the menu instead of this, I wish I read the reviews for it before ordering. Also, rice is not included so be sure to ask for it! Also it was quite expensive for such a small glass of soju, you’re better off getting the tastings or a bottle of any alcohol instead. But then again the soju mojito was so yummy! Definitely making it myself at home!

Yummmm - Edit
The good dishes at hangawi are REALLY good. Like it reminds me of why I pay expensive money to eat at restaurants. The black truffle dumplings were 10/10. The bibimbap my mom got was also rly good. Matcha cheesecake and sesame cake were 🤌🤌🤌
Read moreSundubu I’ve honestly had better 😭 (and I actually now rmbr thinking the same thing last time I came but I forgot and got it again bc I [censored] love sundubu🫶) and there was this one tea (I forget the name it was the one w a paragraph explanation ab the health benefits) that was overly sweet and sour? Like honey and melted jolly ranchers? Not my cup of tea clearly but to each their own oc.

AMAZING food, unique dining experience - Edit
Some of the most unique and tasty vegan food I've ever had. Loves the atmosphere as well with the recessed seating. Staff was kind and attentive. Definitely a bit more on the expensive side but worth it to try at least once. Would definitely recommend.

A little pricey but delicious food! - Edit
I love the ambiance of this place! You take off your shoes when you enter and the staff puts them away. You sit at tables with an underground cubby for your legs. So cute! You can also sit cross-legged at your table. The noise level on this Saturday night was pretty standard for any restaurant but soft, lilting music played in the background.
Read moreThe vegan food was epic! 👏👏😍 There were so many choices on the menu that I’m going to have to come back ❤️ We got the tofu steak, combination kimbap, and acorn noodles 🙌 The noodles were pricey for the serving size but the two mains were terrific! The sauces were rich and complex. This is a great place to celebrate and have a slightly upscale dinner✨ Three people got birthday serenades and free desserts when I went lol.
Another nice thing is that this place closes later than other restaurants. Email them to make a reservation and don't be more than 10 minutes late. This place is always busy lol. We ate on a Saturday at 9 pm and it was packed. Great experience! #veganfood #veganrestaurants #vegannyc
Pros: Delicious food, Unique ambience, Courteous staff

No other place in NYC - Edit
Hangawi is like no other place I’ve been to yet in NYC with dark wood paneling and recessed tables. You’re transported to a place and time reflected in the attentive service, the decor, and the food.
Read moreFeaturing an all-vegan, Korean-inspired modern menu (including their wines), the seasonal app/entree/dessert prix fixe is the way to go. Standouts from their winter menu include:
- Kimchi hotpot and trio roots kimbap
- Stuffed eggplant in chili sauce (a personal favorite, so well-cooked and flavored)
- Red beans and ice cream rhapsody
Reservations recommended. Only done by email with very prompt and courteous responses.
For the tables, you have to lower yourself into the seats, and with the narrow space, can be challenging for those with mobility issues. Regular tables are available. You’ll be asked to remove your shoes at the entrance, placed on a shelf, and laid out ready without prompting on your way out. What a way to leave a lasting impression.

Favorite restaurant to visit in New York - Edit
I had not been here in over a decade and it was equally fabulously delicious as I remembered it. Such great service, fun experience and delicious food. Our table of four, each ordered something completely different and we all loved our appetizers, entrees and desserts.
