Gran Master Flashy - Edit
Subtlety is not in the vocabulary of this café-cum-diner. Sitting proudly on Great Ancoats Street, surrounded by po-faced Victorian edifices and rather more banal modern constructions, this fabulously garish establishment positively revels in being different. More kitsch than a drag convention held in a kitchen showroom, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t absolutely adore it.

Eclectic décor, gloriously mismatched furnishings, and an unapologetically maximalist aesthetic somehow combine to create a space that feels surprisingly cosy rather than chaotic. It may well be an acquired taste, but it’s one I lapped up. The atmosphere is elevated further by the staff who, having clearly taken their cues from the company’s delightfully offbeat social media presence, strike the perfect balance between playful personality and genuinely excellent service.
Thankfully, the high standards weren’t confined to the surroundings. In fact, the undisputed stars of the show were the drinks.
The oat milk chai latte was sublime - beautifully fragrant, silky smooth, and served in a proper mug which only heightened the enjoyment. The Biscoff milkshake, meanwhile, was outrageously indulgent and every bit as delicious as I’d hoped, managing to be rich without becoming cloying.
Then there was the namesake lager, brewed by Freedom Brewery. Crisp, refreshing, and wonderfully drinkable, it proved an excellent pint. Quite how well it paired with my relatively virtuous granola bowl is another matter entirely.
Speaking of the comestibles, they never quite reached the lofty heights of the beverages. The aforementioned bowl was perfectly pleasant, fresh, and satisfying enough, but it never really threatened to become memorable. The same could largely be said of the sausage bagel. Competently prepared and enjoyable, certainly, but not quite possessing the flair or inventiveness that the venue itself exudes.
Based on the drinks alone, this place was an unequivocal success. Factoring in the food tempers that enthusiasm slightly, though I strongly suspect the blame lies more with my ordering than with the kitchen. The steady procession of colourful, generously laden plates making their way to neighbouring tables looked considerably more exciting than my own selections. As such, I’d happily return, if only to correct what may well have been an unfortunate tactical error on my part.

Supermarket smash Avacado - Edit
If you don’t mind paying nearly £10 for the privilege of having a supermarkets smashed Avacado on some sourdough then go ahead… The cakes are industry standard supply so you’ll find that same carrot cake other coffee shops have (which is delicious though). I find it disappointing though and wouldn’t recommend especially in its location

Cool cafe - cosy & full of character - Edit
I wish I'd taken pictures of the decor as it's a feast for the eyes if you love places full of colour and quirkiness. A warm welcome from the staff. Comfy sofas and window (people watching) seats. Ordered the sweet chilli houmous and pickled cabbage sourdough, and it was delicious! Even though it's not a fully vegan cafe, it's good to see they've made a real effort with the vegan options. I'll be coming back.

Wir hatten einen Matcha und einen Mocca. Es gibt sogar vegane Schlagsahne. Auch veganen Kuchen hätte es gegeben. Der Einrichtungsstil ist super liebevoll. Würde wiederkommen ☀️

I’m not normally a topped toast gal and often feel it’s an overdone vegan option but this dish has converted me , actually tasty with balsamic glaze and pomegranate on sourdough , I now get the hype

Vegan Vanilla Protein ,flaked almond ,pb golden syrup dark choc chips
I’m a sucker for an açai bowl and always try if I see on the menu so couldn’t resist a sweet treat 😜 to finish ( would of preferred a lil thicker but that’s my preference) and I’m a lover of toppings
Then spotted a Love cake caramel tart so got to take away
Overall a lovely lunch out and me and my mum can’t rave about enough , relaxed and lovely treat
