Elevated Mexican - Edit
First went to GM in San Francisco over 10 years ago and it was an instant hit with my Omni husband. He asked to go again and didn’t hesitate to indulge him. For the queso and guac to start. The queso was very hearty and had a stretch like I’d never seen before. The gauc was very fresh. I let the Hubs order and we got the maitake machaca fajitas and gorditas de chicharrón… I loved the gorditas! The mushrooms were fried perfectly. I didn’t have much of the fajitas, but the hubs enjoyed them and I figured they’d be the better item to reheat later. Overall great food and service. Not to mention a gorgeous patio.

Delicious vegan Mexican food! The tacos, nachos, and bowls are amazing. I wasn’t a fan of the horchata but the food was incredible. Love the vibe and decor. The taco Tuesday option is a good deal.

Best Vegan Mexican - Edit
I had put off going here for a while until I heard the SF location closed suddenly so I made sure to come by and support them and not take them for granted.

I even picked up one of the chef’s cookbooks here and been replicating them at home.

Sometimes you just need a food cheat day, and this was it. - Edit
Celebrating special occasions used to be a tradition for us at the now-closed San Francisco location, but LA's visit proved equally memorable.
Read morePOWER LUNCH PRIX-FIXE, was definitely a $$$ saver and I highly recommend.
Started with the QUESO FUNDIDO and GUACAMOLE & SALSA starters, the Queso was warm rich and cheesy with a perfect amount of spice. Entrees personalized TACOs and a perfectly crafted MUSHROOM QUESADILLA highlighted the diverse menu.
Desserts, like the warm APPLE GALETTE with salty caramel gelato and the rich WARM CHOCOLATE OLIVE OIL CAKE, concluded the meal on a sweet and satisfying note. A culinary experience that made the diet detour well worth it.
Pros: BEAUTIFUL restaurant , Amazing Food and Flavors
Cons: We just ruined our January Diet😉

Delicious vegan Mexican food - Edit
I really enjoyed my meal here and would definitely go back. It seems to get busy so I plan on making reservations next time. You can tell they use high quality ingredients. I also tried a non-alcoholic margarita for the first time and it was delicious!

Never disappoints - Edit
Gracias madre never disappoints. It’s vegan Mexican that hits every time and is honestly rooted quite traditionally, but with a vegan spin. It’s definitely a little pricey, but a nice splurge every so often.
Read moreMushroom enchiladas were amazing and rich, the gordita was nice and fresh and the masa cake was great. The olive oil cake was great and not too heavy. Also got empanadas to start (not pictured) and they had great flavor!

V Horchata 💕🥛🍚 - Edit
Lovely and no complaints. I enjoyed the French toast and the Madre bowl with the chili items on the side. The flavors are not really strong or loud, but instead subtly pleasant. The Chilaquiles looked delicious, but the do have chili mixed in.
Read moreI like the description of this being a Mexican inspired and upscale place.
Expect to taste each ingredient. Don’t expect lots of salt or pungent tastes. The horchata is quite sweet, but really nice to have this, as many places didn’t make a v version.

Great chicharron and crab cake - Edit
The heart of palm crab cake was really good, and the mushroom chicharron was excellent. The molcajete was not that good. We also had the cocktails, which were quite mild, basically lemonade. The outdoor heated patio seating with nice lighting was pretty good ambience, but overall way too pricy

Solid and reliable Mexican-inspired food - Edit
I’ve eaten here many times and often felt the patio and cocktails were the stars while the food was just good but not great.
Read moreI have to say, the last couple of times I’ve been, I’ve enjoyed the food a lot more.
It still feels like a vegan restaurant for non-vegans, but the menu is large and varied and the food always feels fresh and tasty. I generally stick to the bowls but everyone I’ve taken here (mostly non-vegans) has enjoyed it too.
Overall a really solid and reliable option in West Hollywood!

Best outdoor seating - Edit
Fancy Mexican vegan. Gringo style. I have been to this location many times over the years. The environment is beautiful, great vibe. Food is served looking amazing though taste has suffered a bit over time. Its nice to be pretty though taste is more important. I'm tougher here because i remember how every bite was better then the last.

Ambient perfection with excellent service - Edit
There is a lot to love about Gracias Madre, and only a couple minor detractors. So, what makes this vegan restaurant one you’ll want to visit?
Read moreTLDR:
Ambiance - 5/5
Service - 5/5
Food & Drink- 4/5
Value - 4/5
Total - 18/20
The restaurant itself is stunning, particularly the courtyard, which has heaters that were welcome. A large tree adorns the center back of the area, slightly obscuring the bar behind it. A fireplace was going strong, and everyone around me in the restaurant seemed to really be enjoying themselves. 5/5
Service was stellar. My waiter was personable, friendly, and her visit cadence was spot-on. The two hostesses were pleasant and quickly led me to my table. I went around 8:45 on a Tuesday evening. It was still busy, but I didn’t have to wait for a table. I expect that’s very different on the weekends, when you’d probably want to make a reservation to ensure a time that works for you. 5/5
The food, while delicious, had just a couple minor flaws, which I’ll cover. I had:
-Calabacitas Rellenas (main)
-Nolonche (mocktail)
Calabacitas Rellenas translates to stuffed zucchini. There were three zucchini halves on a plate. The insides had been mostly scooped out, filled with soy chorizo, garbanzo beans, and cashew mozzarella, amongst others. These were then roasted and served atop a small amount of potato mash and mole.
Most of the dish was perfect, particularly the flavor and skill with which the zucchini was roasted (cooked, but still firm). However, for $27.50, it needed to be a little better. These are minor complaints, but for the price, I’m going to list them.
1. The zucchini itself wasn’t properly seasoned. The filling was delicious, but the zucchini should shine as well. The firm texture was there (thank goodness, as I dislike overcooked zucchini), but a tad more salt would have gone a long way.
2. The textures weren’t varied enough. The dish would have benefited from more crunch, even if it was just a garnish. The dish advertised pepitas. Those were technically there, but the dish could have used more.
3. Similarly, the colors all had very similar tones. The dish needed more color. A few pomegranate seeds would have been a perfect bit of flair.
The drink (Nolonche) was refreshing with a zing. It consisted of flavors of hibiscus and prickly pear. I really enjoyed it (even for $12). That said, it was a little unbalanced, leaning heavily towards the hibiscus. I would have preferred it to be slightly sweeter. 4/5

A must-visit vegan hotspot - Edit
We visited Gracias Madre and it was a really great evening meal - date night! - with a fun vibe, upmarket surrounds and friendly staff.
Read moreThe food was on the upper end of the budget but the flavours were good.
The nachos were fantastic and I really recommend them.
We had two different bowls and was a little underwhelmed. The price was pretty high and the two bowls were basically the same (both had pesto in abundance.) they were tasty but… for $22 you’d expect more OOMPH.
Overall I’d still visit again and have something else from the menu.
Pros: Totally vegan menu!, Great vibe
Cons: Expensive
