Vegan fine dining at its best - Edit

Visited recently with three friends who are omni. Had different choices among us and all were very happy with their meals. Friendly service, high quality ingredients and cooked with love. Positive atmosphere. What else can one ask for. Not a place to go when in a rush. As in general with above average kitchen, allow some time for fresh preparation. I will be back.

Pros: Great quality ingredient cooked well and beautiful, observant and friendly service, open yet warm atmosphere

Cons: lack of own parking lot, that’s all

Farbenfroh = Colorful - Edit

Since we were visiting Essen, we looked on HappyCow for a restaurant recommendation there. The menu itself was like opening a small book with their dishes and beverages. I mention that because laminated menus tell me the food never changes. The food at Farbenfroh changes with the seasons, with a special menu changing weekly. It was hard to choose because everything looked so good. We ended up ordering the 3 course menu with wine pairings. Everything was delicious and a feast for the eyes. The food was wonderful, the wines paired deliciously. All the wines were from German wineries.

As it turned out one of the owners, Katy, helped us with our choices, and her partner Izzettin prepares all the food with an extra dose of love.

We both had the Polenta with Lentils and Pomegranate, Stuffed Potatoes with 'Shrooms and Kale, and we both tried different desserts. All of the courses had a balance of textures and flavours. Although full, we finished our amazing desserts. I recommend the chocolate cake with caramel ice cream. All dishes had lovely presentations.

The restaurant has a quiet ambiance (you can't hear the conversation at the next table), it's relaxed and casual.

Lives up to its name - Edit

Farbenfroh means "colorful" in German, and this certainly describes the extensive buffet offered every Sunday for brunch. On the day of my visit, choices included chili sin carne, sweet potato soup, grilled vegetables, a large selection of salads (chickpea, beet, et cetera), roasted potatoes, freshly baked breads, two savory spreads, plum preserves, a homemade vegan version of Nutella, apple cake, and soy yogurt parfaits.

Pros: Large variety of healthful dishes

Gourmet Vegan Restaurant!! - Edit

I invited my parents and boyfriend to Farbenfroh after my graduation and it was the best choice. They were the most attentive staff ever (I requested an oilfree, glutenfree meal and they did the BEST job, making different suggestions and adjusting the menu so I could have a perfect meal). The portions looked tiny at first but due to the huge plates appeared much smaller than they ended up being. So delicious and satisfying. We all loved it (omnivore parents, vegetarian boyfriend & oilfree, glutenfree vegan me :P). They offer such exquisite and interesting flavour combinations you won't find in any other vegan restaurant. Their desserts were heavenly, you wouldn't even know they were vegan.
Unfortunately for us but luckily for them it was a super busy night and we had to wait for almost an entire hour for our dessert but the staff was always apologising and they definitely did their best. Definitely recommend!!

Pros: Delicious, colourful meals, Super attentive staff, Beautiful, elegant interior

Cons: More on the pricey side (13-15€/ main dish), Long waiting time on busy nights

colourful an delicious! - Edit

I was there twice, for lunch and dinner respectively. The food is prepared with love and does not only look but also tastes great.
Even my grandma liked it. Took her there for her birthday. She even got a slice of chocolate cake from the kitchen as a present... even though she's not the easiest carnivore to deal with ;)

Pros: food looks very pretty and colourful, and also tastes great, staff is very friendly and attentive

ice cream - Edit

In summer they have ice cream to go, for 1.50euros.
This was the TASTIEST ice cream i have ever had in my whole life! It was lovely decorated, with homemade browniespices and homemade crumbles and fresh fruit. I had a nice talk with the owners, because there weren't a lot if people. Though a bit pricier than most vegans hope, this is certainly the adress to go to! They maked everything themselves, even the veggiebroth and the bread they serve (theres brunchbuffet on sundays).
Nice staff, and most compelling food you can get.
If i would want indulge myself with tastiness, then i would go there!

Pros: all vegan ALL selfmade/homemade, very creative, no jubk, but quality food

Extraordinary colourful food - Edit

We went for the Sunday brunch buffet, which is highly recommendable. The buffet included e.g. self made bread and roles fresh from the oven, a wide variety of cold vegetable dishes and salads, warm dishes, a soup, sweet and savoury bread spreads, fruits and desserts. The food was tasty and the service very friendly. A reservation is recommended.

Also the 3-4 course menu (optionally accompanied by either wines or high quality juices) was an amazing treat. The name of the restaurant (Farbenfroh) reflects itself in the colourful variety and combination of extraordinary food.

The friendly chef is very ambitious and appreciates your feedback.

We will definitely go there again soon.

Pros: Delicious , Extraordinary
