Serves meat, vegan options available. Trinidadean menu with many vegetable-based dishes daily. No frozen ingredients used. Leftovers at the end of each day are donated to a homeless shelter. Reported closed, Jun 2019.
I still can't figure out what was better... The absolutely amazing food or the Beyond heartwarming family that runs this restaurant! Today is one of the owners birthdays (the Mrs.) and she is in there with a tiara on serving food with the biggest smile I've ever seen!!! The chef came out and told me everything that was in the food so that I didn't eat something that I would not want to!! I just think it's wrong that it only allowed me to give four stars to a non vegetarian restaurant because you will not find better vegetarian food in a restaurant that serves meat!!! Hats off to the chefs, owners, and all around kind souls that will be waiting for you!!!
Finding this spot in the Heights was such an unexpected and happy surprise. If you're bored of veggie burgers and hummus wraps (and let's face it, who isn't?) and wish you could safely enjoy interesting cuisines from around the world without worrying about accidentally ingesting a pig eye, well now you do.
David and Son's is not a vegan or even a vegetarian restaurant, but they know exactly what is in each dish, cook all their vegetable entrees in oil, and make everything as fresh as it can be. Ingredients are bought at start of day and whatever is left at day's end is donated to a homeless shelter so you are always eating food that was made same-day. Nothing is frozen.
Veg/vegans can eat most if not all of the vegetable entrees (ask first to be sure) - I particularly liked the okra fry. Trinidadian specialties include the "Buss up Shot", a delicious pile of roti that looks like a "busted up shirt", or dhal puri roti (similar but with yellow split pea flavoring on the inside. I haven't tried "doubles" yet but they looked delicious.
Don't let the modest storefront stop you from checking out this gem!

Pros: It's not easy to find Trinidadian Vegan fare!, Their food is fresher than what I make at home, Friendly, knowledgeable staff
Cons: Small location, No alcohol
