Windsor Dosa Delights!

Crispy Dosa offers a lot of choice for vegans plus outdoor seating on a pedestrianised road, so what more do you want? A view of the castle? Absolutely. It has that too! Really good food, reasonably priced and efficient yet friendly staff. This is a vegetarian restaurant with indoor seating too, it accepts both card and cash; even the loos are pleasant. Hard to find fault with this place so don’t try… just get here and try the food. It is colourful, incredibly tasty and you will not leave hungry! We returned in February 2024 with high expectations. These were upheld by the crispiness of the Mysore Masala Dosa and the Nilgiri Masala Dosa. The taste of the accompanying condiments complement the dosas perfectly. This is our Windsor happy place!

Cant recommend the noodles

The food I had was decent, had better food elsewhere. Can’t recommend the noodles, so ill be back to try the other food because that seems to have better reviews!

Pros: Great location, Friendly staff

Cons: Expensive

Large tasty dosas!

Good location in the centre of Windsor, friendly quick service. The menu is a mixture of vegan and vegetarian South Indian dishes. I had the vegan masala dosa which was a great size with lovely dips and tasty potato filling. Will definitely be back.

Pros: Dosas!, Lots of vegan options , No meat at all served

Great place for hungry hippies.

We were back in Windsor on a flying visit, so we almost missed this place; in fact, we only saw it on a Sunday morning when we'd already had breakfast.

“Well,” I said “I think I could manage a small dosa. Or maybe some iddlies.” We went in.

In the end, I just had vadas dipped in rasam, which were delicious. The only other customer at 10:30 AM on a Sunday was a very skinny hippy, who had, not only the full buffet breakfast, but a freshly cooked dosa.

“They should rename this place The Hungry Hippy” I said.

Pros: Authentic southern Indian food, Serves alcohol, Vegan dishes clearly marked

Great Dosa

There are many vegan options to chose from (previously mentioned teething problems no longer an issue). Food was tasty, portions were decent and service was friendly. The only photo I have doesn’t do the coriander potato filled dosa justice—it really was delicious.

Pros: Lots of vegan options

Cons: Vegan dishes maybe one dip short vs vegetarian?

Teething problems

We had a disappointing experience here last night. The menu was inaccurate & items made with paneer and ghee were labelled vegan and this made me very nervous about ordering. I spoke to the manager and he explained that there was an error during printing and that new, correctly labelled menus would be available from today. He showed me the new menu (on his phone) and once the menu problem has been resolved there will be a good choice of vegan options. In the meantime he was able to advise me which dishes were vegan which I appreciated.

We ordered a portion of masala vada to share, a mixed veg utthapam and a rava masala dosa. The utthapam and dosa arrived but not the vada. When we asked the waiter about it he said that they were out of vada! It would've been helpful if they'd told us this earlier and we could have ordered something else. The dosa and utthapam and accompanying chutneys were delicious but were lukewarm.

The manager took 50% off our bill as a gesture of goodwill. He said they'd only been open for 6 days and were experiencing a few teething problems! He was very apologetic and courteous. Because of this we will definitely go back as it's wonderful to have authentic South Indian, vegan-friendly food close to where I live. However, we'll probably give it a couple of months before returning when hopefully they'll have sorted out the staffing & kitchen problems.
