Speaking My Loaf Language - Edit
Let’s be honest, away from the glory of their majestic buffets (all hail), hotels can be expensive places to dine, especially when you’re just looking for a quick fix. Throw in the hankering for a tipple or two, and you’re entering dicey territory for your bank balance. Here though, in this swanky, relaxed joint, I mercifully found the panacea to my cravings without having to sacrifice an organ to cover the costs.
Read moreThe source of this cost-effective sustenance was the cafe's in-house bakery. With a fabulous range of delectable, freshly baked options to choose from, at a more than reasonable price, there was no way that I was merely going to select one. After an agonising decision process, I finally plumped for one savoury and one sweet.
First up was the fragrant sun-dried tomato & olive option. A gloriously light creation, the aromatic scent wafting from it translated well into the flavour, and with its pops of saltiness, it was more than adequate to consume without the need for additional embellishments. That said, I did indulge in a wee accoutrement of olive, which didn’t do any harm at all.
Suitably satisfied with my ‘main course’, next came the ‘dessert’ in the form of the walnut & blueberry loaf. Entirely more dense and toothsome than its predecessor, it provided an excellent contrast in texture while still delivering in all the ways that I wanted it to. The subtle fruit notes blended beautifully with the unmistakable earthiness of its nutty bedfellow.
While this is unlikely to be a place that you would actively seek out for a full meal – though their salads did look appetising – as a place to grab a decent snack while enjoying a coffee (or a libation or two), it’s hard to argue with it.
