Lights! Camera! Action?

Waltzing in on a red carpet and finding an impressive-looking spread contained within a restaurant bedecked with silver screen paraphernalia, I was all set for the razzle-dazzle of a blockbuster experience. Regrettably, what I actually got was akin to a movie that falls somewhat short of the mark set by its overly zealous trailer.
The main contributor to my consternation was the service. Perhaps they were all aspiring thespians who were only waiting tables until they got their big break, or they were actors playing the part of ambivalent waitstaff – if it was the latter, then there were some award-worthy performances on show.
Pulling focus away from this disappointing facet and turning the lens back where it should be – on the food – here there was a mixed bag of showings. While the foul, the hash browns, and the manakish put on an excellent display, so too did the miso soup and the coffee; everything else fell a little flat. The sambar was sufficient enough, but the vine leaves were rather mushy, the spicy chickpea salad was lacking any of its titular oomph, and the balila was ferociously average. The most significant dud, though, was the idly. By far and away the worst I’ve had; it's texturally crumbly and, despite lashings of chutney, drier than the most deadpan of actors.
I definitely wouldn’t be dishing out a Razzie for this production; it certainly did have its merits, but it wouldn’t snatch an Oscar. More Borehamwood than Hollywood (my apologies to the denizens of Borehamwood), a sequel is unlikely.
