Pretty Good for Vegans! - Edit
Chaplins Ice Cream and Coffee Bar is an ice cream parlour and cafe situated in the sublime village Rhosneigr. As a small eatery in a busy village with lots of visitors, it is great to see Chaplin's committing themselves to stocking multiple vegan frozen treats.
Read moreI visited as soon as they opened, as I just happened to notice the sign in their window advertising the vegan options as I was walking by. When I asked the friendly woman behind the counter about their vegan options, as I could not see them in the frezer display, she listed all their options to me and explained that they are kept in their own freezer behind the counter. The vegan options during my visit were:
- Mint Choc Chip Ice Cream
- Vanilla Ice Cream
- Salted Caramel Ice Cream
- Strawberry Ice Cream
- Chocolate Ice Cream
- Raspberry Sorbet
- Blackcurrant Sorbet
- Strawberry & Champagne Sorbet
- Mango Sorbet
The flavours do change, but they always keep a large stock, and some other flavours can include Orange Sorbet and Lemon Sorbet. Chaplin's also has a chest freezer, which stocks further ice creams and ice lollies, which includes some vegan options such as Calippos, and they also have a fridge stocked with soft drinks. The tiny food menu for the cafe did not have any labelled vegan options, unfortunately.
I had a scoop of Vanilla and a scoop of Chocolate ice cream. The brand of ice cream they stock for the vegan options is Marshfield Farm, which is very popular among ice cream parlours wanting to provide a dairy free alternative, so I have had their stuff before. Their ice cream is nice, with the vanilla being the one I enjoy the most, and others must agree as the flavour has even won an award!
Chaplin's does cater well fairly well for vegans, but they could become even more vegan friendly by storing some vegan products in sight (even plant milks would be a start) and adding vegan options to their food menu and chest freezer. Overall, I absolutely recommend this ice cream parlour to vegans - especially those who are looking to cool down after a hot day spent on Traeth Crigyll or Traeth Llydan!
